It's Wednesday again which means it's time to join in with the Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce over at From This Side of the Pond! Each week there are 6 questions, we answer and then link up. Simple!
1. What's a lesson you've learned from a mistake?
In my life I have learned so much from making mistakes, I feel that's sometimes that's how we learn and grow. I am not perfect and I am always making mistakes but I do learn from them. Just over the past couple of weeks I've learned things from my past mistakes. I waited to plant my seeds until the worst frosts on an morning have passed, I have stopped buying Andrex toilet rolls as they don't seem to last as long as the supermarkets own brand, I have learned not to believe my girls when they say they have no dirty washing in their bedrooms and I've learned not to trust the bus timetable as they are a law unto themselves!
2. Do you salt food while you're cooking or let diners add their own? What's a food you think must be salted? Do you like pepper?
I don't add salt when I am cooking and let people add their own if they want to when the food is ready. I don't see what difference a pinch of salt makes when cooking a meal. I know people are going to tell me I am wrong but I've had no complaints about my cooking.
Chips!! Chips have to have plenty of salt and of course vinegar on!
3. What was the last gathering you attended and what did you do there?
I don't go to many gatherings unless you count going to my dad's most Friday's. There'll be my girls, me and Stu when he is off work, my brother and sometime his partner and her kids and of course my dad and sometimes his partner. We do love a Friday get together, my dad cooks for us all and we have a good catch up and put the world to rights. We are close as a family and would do anything for each other but we're not very sociable and don't pop around each others houses often, we all have busy lives so these Friday's have become quite special.
4. Your favorite shade of purple? What's your favorite purple flower?
Purple is my all time favourite colour, I don't think I have a favourite shade. I prefer the darker purples to the pastel one's despite me having purple hair quite a few times.
As for my favourite flower the only purple one I could think of off the top of my head was lavender and as pretty as it is to look at, I hate the smell. I don't know what it is about it but it always makes me feel nauseous. After a quick Google, I think my favourite purple flower is the Iris or Lilac.
5. Share a favorite spring travel memory.
I don't think I have ever really travelled in Spring, we always seem to travel more in the summer or later on in the year. I think it is because my girls would only get 2 weeks off school over Easter and that is when everywhere seems to put their prices up.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Writing this blog post has become part of my Sunday routine! I love answering these random questions. Sunday is also became my day for watching movies. I have just started watching The first Matrix movie and will probably watch all of them over today. I've seen them all before but they are a good series even if it took me years to understand them.
Your Friday tradition at your dad's house sounds so neat and one that your girls will look back at fondly when they think of their young adult years (though hopefully the get togethers will extend even past their young adult years but if they don't, the meals together will be great memories). I mentioned salt on fried chicken nuggets- fried foods must be salted!! Enjoyed your answers and have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI love the Friday tradition at your dad's house. And I will have to start looking for these questions on Sundays. I wrote my post in bits and pieces at work yesterday and it was not very relaxing :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite colour is purple too. I agree with you on not adding salt to most dishes. The only exception that I can think of is scrambled tofu, which needs a specific type of salt to give it an eggy flavour. I like pepper though.
ReplyDeleteSo many people have mentioned salting potatoes!
ReplyDeleteI love your Friday gatherings. I would enjoy doing that, I hope it is something I can do with my boys when they have a family. We live about an hour away.
ReplyDeleteCarla
I love the Friday night dinner tradition. It's nice to know you have that time set to be intentional with family. Purple suits you! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I salt and vinegar my chips too!
ReplyDeleteWe rewatched the Matrix movies with our son a few years ago and loved it. The Friday gathering sounds so nice!
ReplyDeleteI agree that chips need plenty of salt and vinegar, although nowadays if I get them from the chippy they are really stingy with the salt and vinegar.
ReplyDeletePurple really suits you!
I've tried to watch the Matrix a few times but I just can't get into it, enjoy your movie watching.
Your Friday family tradition sounds wonderful. Our daughter has enjoyed purple hair the last few years. It's too bad prices are jacked up during known holidays. Happy Hodgepodge!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! Thanks for visiting my blog. I enjoyed reading your Hodgepodge post. I love fish and chips with salt and vinegar, but here in Utah in the U.S., it is very hard to find any place that serves fish and chips! You are sure right about learning from mistakes. I make so many mistakes - so I must have a lot to learn! I hope you are having a good week. I will come back and visit again! See you again soon!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great family Friday tradition! I miss gathering the family like that. Love your purple hair! My daughter has worn hers purple a couple of times, though she usually prefers green hair. My hair is silvery and I sometimes add a little touch of lavender to it. Hope you're having a great week!
ReplyDeleteI always love reading these posts! They're always so much fun! I am a saltaholic so I try not to salt food too much when I cook because I know that I like it way more than the average person. You better believe I salt it a ton afterward, though! I know it's bad for you, but I have very low blood pressure so I think that's why I crave it??
ReplyDeleteFridays at your dad's place sounds lovely. I am also not very fond of pepper. I love purple too, specially purple flowers. Your hair looks great!
