The Wednesday Hodgepodge! #12

I hope you are all having a good week? It's Wednesday which means it's time to join in with the Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce over at From This Side of the Pond! Each week there are 6 questions, we answer and then link up. Simple!

Question Marks on Paper Crafts

1. The Hodgepodge lands on National Picnic Day will you celebrate? Do you enjoy picnics? Dining out of doors picnic or otherwise? What are three or four things I'd find in your picnic basket?

I don't think we will be celebrating today as we're all back to normal after our Easter break, although I do love a picnic especially on a nice summers day as long as the insects and critters stay away. I think my favourite picnic foods are mini sausage rolls, mini scotch eggs, ham or egg sandwiches but they have to be cut in triangles instead of squares and something sweet like any sort of Mr Kipling cakes. The French Fancies would be my first pick.

2. A time recently where you felt 'antsy'?

On Sunday after having a night away I was ready to be home but we had to wait for the next bus and we were ready far too early. I started feeling antsy, there was nothing wrong but I just couldn't settle my nerves. I knew there was nothing wrong with me, the bus was running on time and all was well at home. I just had to wait it out.

3. As the saying goes...'when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.' Do you like lemonade? When did you recently need to make lemonade out of lemons, figuratively speaking?

I do like lemonade and drink it often. I really enjoy it on a warm day with lots of ice.

Once in a while I will get a negative comment left on a blog post, I could let them ruin my day but sometimes I turn those mean or argumentative comments into motivation to write blog posts. On my blog post about candles last month I received a comment saying "They are also the leading cause of house fires." I did some research and found out that isn't true, candles are not the biggest cause of house fires and wrote the blog post How to prevent kitchen fires before they start!

4. Recently five 'celebrities' made a brief (ll minute) foray into space aboard Jeff Bezos Blue Origin rocket. Did you hear about this? Your thoughts? If money were no object is this something you'd like to do someday?

I did hear about the celebrities going up into space but didn't know much about it apart from one of them was the singer Katy Perry. My first thought was what a waste of money especially when people are going hungry, without medical care, warm homes or even everyday things that they need. Sending rockets into space willy-nilly can't be good for the environment and our planet either.

No thank you, I like to keep myself on the ground. I won't even go on a plane as it terrifies me so the thought of going in a rocket is the thing of nightmares.

5. Favorite thing about the 'space' you're sitting in right now?

I love my little space in the living room. I have my own comfy armchair so I don't have to share, I have a little table to my right where I have a drink, snacks and most things I need without having to get up. To my left is the TV with the wrestling on at the moment, I have a blanket over me to keep cosy, my feet up on a footstool and my laptop on my knee! What more could I want for a Sunday afternoon!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

My eldest daughter took me to a bar on Saturday night which she loves but I hated every second. The bar staff were rude, the music was too loud, the smoke machine was pumping out too much smoke, the lights were flashing too much and everyone was half my age. We stopped for one drink and that was enough. I would say I felt too old for nights out but we had been to a different bar before and the atmosphere was totally different. I wished we had stayed there but at least I got to experience something that young adults love.

  1. Your space sounds lovely and one similar to my inside space. I wrote my post while sitting outside so I wrote about that but inside, my answer would have been similar to yours. Sorry you received a negative comment on your blog- turning the subject of that comment into a blog post was a great idea. Sorry the bar you went to was disappointing. While young adults and non young adults can enjoy many activities, places, etc. together, there are definitely some places that just the young "get" or enjoy. Have a great day!

  2. Negative comments are so uncalled for on blogs, so sorry that happened to you. I hope we can all encourage one another! I hope you are enjoying your day!

  3. I know I'm old because I can't handle being in a place where the music is too loud. I do play my music loud sometimes, but I hate when I'm trying to talk to people and you can't hear a thing. I'm impressed you turned that negative comment around. Some people just enjoy stirring the pot. I burn candles too lol. Your space sounds cozy. Enjoy your day!

  4. I agree with you on so many of these! Funny about the negative blog post and it being incorrect info...that person just insists on being argumentative on so many of our blogs!

  5. I liked how you answered #4!!! I agree!!!
Good for you for going with your daughter to the bar, I do understand what you mean, some places just do not feel right to us "older" people. ;-)

  6. What a bummer that you have to even deal with rude/negative comments! Why do people bother doing that? Good for you...moving on. I have to ask - what is a scotch egg??

    1. A Scotch egg is a boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat, coated in breadcrumbs and baked. They are delicious.

  7. What a great idea to turn a negative blog comment into a whole other post! That is quite clever. And I 100% agree with all your thoughts on the celebrities in space-- what a waste of resources!

  8. I love that you turned that comment around and wrote a brilliant blog post!
Your living room set up sounds exactly like mine, I have a desigmated spot on the sofa and a table next to me for all my bits and bobs.
Mr Kipling French Fancies are the best cakes for a picnic, I find it hard to just eat one though.

  9. I went to the Mr. Kipling website and drooled. Ha! Oh, my... all the wonderful-looking goodies the company makes. Are they local to your country only? I sure would love to sample some of those if I had the chance!

Sad that some people have to leave rude comments. I've never run across any myself, but your excellent post sure was a great comback!

I was on a small 4-seater plane once back in 1986 and I was antsy the whole time. Never again. Nope. Uh-uh.

    1. I just Googled it and apparently you can buy Mr Kipling cakes in Target stores! If you see them you have to try them, they're amazing. :)

  10. Yep, your random story would be a nightmare for me. Glad you survived. Your cozy space sounds real nice. Good for you for turning those negatives into something positive. Happy Wednesday to you!

  11. Oh goodness, I haven't had a scotch egg in ages, and now I'm hungry for one. I wonder if I even remember how to make them?! LOL It's so sad that people feel like it's okay to leave rude or critical comments on blogs - blog commenting is one place where you really should find something nice to say or just not comment at all - but I love how you turned it around to come up with an informative article! Sorry the visit to the bar didn't turn out as fun as you'd hoped, but how sweet of you to spend that time with your daughter in a space she was interested in. Hope you're having a great week!

  12. I enjoyed your answers. I've never had scotch eggs. I agree about the housefires. My husband works for a restoration company and it's amazing how many fires start in the kitchen or from outside grills.
