This week my Word of the Week is: Friends!! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Friends

Friends are such an important part of life and I know I would be lost without mine, those online and in real life. My girls have a good group of friends although sometimes it's hard to keep up with everything that's going on within the friendship groups, it makes me feel so old. lol

After some things that went on last year it has taken Ellie a lot of time to almost get back to the person that she was. She has had to learn to trust people again, make new friends and gain the confidence to go out and do what normal teenagers do. Over the last few of months there have been baby steps but over the past week or so there has been no stopping her!

I am finding it hard keeping track of what she is up to as she seems to have something on every day! It helps that it is the Easter holidays and she can make plans but sometimes I think to myself just have a day off from being busy. lol

Ellie went to the cinema to see The Minecraft Movie over the weekend with her friend and loved it. The spent an obscene amount of money on drinks and snacks in the cinema and has learned a lesson from that. Cinema pick and mix is overrated and over priced. Her boyfriend came over and they spent time gaming on her computer. They play an online game together and he helped her sort it out and learn how to play properly. Ellie had her nails done, she loves long nails but they don't go well with the Engineering course that she is studying at college, especially in practical lessons so with another 2 weeks off she thought why not! Another day she met up with other friends in town, they had a mooch around the shops and she has also spent time at her boyfriends house. The only day she spent at home I made her help with some jobs around the house and outside in the garden which she wasn't too happy about but she knows if she wants to carry on spending money it has to come from somewhere. I know I have lots of plants growing in the garden but a money tree is not one of them. Next week she's meeting up with friends to go swimming, a meal out, a shopping trip (just window shopping) and will probably spend some time with her boyfriend too.

I love to see Ellie so happy and so care free, don't get me wrong there are still times when she feels anxious or feels like she needs to just get home to her safe space but with the help of friends she is getting there and has came on leaps and bounds. One of her friends knows that I worry and said she would get the bus here to pick Ellie up just so I wouldn't worry as much. Bless her and the new boyfriend wanted to meet Stu and I too just to show us that he is good for Ellie. So far so good. I like how Ellie is surrounding herself with good people who care and understand her.

It feels so strange to have the house all to myself, especially during the school holidays! Usually Ellie is home or Becky is sleeping for work but as I am writing this they are both out with friends living the life that young people should be living, having fun and not worrying about the big things. I feel quite lost without the girls home but it does mean that I can watch what I want on the TV without any complaints.

I feel like the only one who hasn't done anything with friends this week unless you count the cards and gifts that I have sent people. It's a friends birthday next week so a bunch of flowers are on the way to them, I am hoping to catch up with them in person next week for a coffee and a gossip and a good friend is moving house so I sent a little something to them.

How has your week been? I hope you have had a good one! I am of course linking up with Anne who blogs at Raisie Bay for her Word of the Week linky!

  1. I'm with you. I love it when my three are free to enjoy themselves. So many pressures on them. I'm glad Ellie is surrounding herself with good people and finding her freedom again. I had to chuckle at the long nails and engineering. I have a daughter studying engineering too and she's looking forward to the summer holidays when she can get her nails done. #wotw

  2. There's a saying, I don't know if it's a Jamaican thing, that good friends are better than pocket money. I agree that it's nice to have friends. We dont have very many but we do treasure the few that we have, especially when it's not a one way street in keeping up the friendship. Sounds like Ellie is having a blast and that is so good for her. I hope your friends celebrating a birthday and moving house, also like their gifts.

  3. It's so good to hear that the girls are getting out and about with friends. They seem to be making the most of their youth and freedom which is fantastic. You seem like a lovely friend too Kim, thinking of others and sending little gifts.
I hope you are having a lovely weekend x

  4. I do not know how people make it through life without good friends. Good friends support us when times are hard and rejoice with us when times are good! It sounds like you are a really good friend!

  5. Being a teenager is hard. You learn a lot especially about people and yourself. Good friends help.

  6. I'm so glad that Ellie is doing so much better. It sounds as if the boyfriend is good for her. Boo is off to see the Minecraft Movie with her friends on Wednesday. She has a lovely group of friends but I have to admit I do worry because out of the five of them 3 are trans. It shouldn't be a problem these days but I know it is. I try to connect with my friends but everyone seems to be too busy for me. I think that's why I've been down. I booked tickets to the theatre for my friend as a surprise but she has already got plans, so I'm taking Boo.

  7. Friends are the family you choose for yourself and apart from my kids, my friends are the ones who keep me going. they are ones there for us, we have lost a few over the years and some recently, but then there's step up and are there when you don't realise you need them, they are worth the investment.
