This week my word of the week is: Plans!! #WotW

This week my word of the week is:

Plans

Here we are in October already! I am really looking forward to this month. October always feels like such a busy but fun time of year. We’ve got so many plans lined up already with days out, visiting people and of course half term for Ellie from college and then there’s the little matter of someone getting a tattoo, it's not me before you ask!

Last Friday I had zero plans for the weekend and for this week but I have been quite busy. Friday evening rolled around and Ellie and I suddenly decided we needed a day out on Saturday. Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you don’t overthink. We hopped on the bus, had a wander around the shops and just went with the flow. We had a McDonald’s for lunch which reminds me I won on the Monopoly game and I still have a ticket for an apple pie and a McFluffy, we mooched around B&M and TK Maxx and then treated ourselves to a stop at M&S Foodhall. Their snacks and treats are just amazing, so fancy. I also picked up one of their Christmas food catalogues which I of course went through as soon as I got home. There are some stunning things in there but I had to laugh when I saw a Handcrafted Turkey & Stuffing Pie for £50. It looks incredible but it only serves six! For that price I’d want it to feed more than that and still have leftovers. lol

Saturday evening was supposed to be chilled but life had other plans. My food delivery turned up and the milk had leaked everywhere. It's not the first time it's happened, the seals are definitely not sealing. Normally I’d be grumbling while wiping everything down but this time the driver told me not to worry because he was going to refund every item that the milk had touched. That meant all of my chilled food which added up to about £40. I wasn’t complaining!! He mentioned that the drivers are refunding more to try and prove a point to the supermarket that something needs to change and I say good on them but I'm sure they said this a while ago and nothing has changed.

Now Ellie’s tattoo plans. She’s been talking about getting one for years, it's not something she's just came up with since she has turned 18. I know tattoos divide opinions and if I’m totally honest it’s not something I’d be rushing to do myself but I can either stick my head in the sand and hope she forgets about it (which she won’t) or I can be involved, making sure she’s going somewhere reputable and knowing that she’s safe. So off we went yesterday to chat with the tattooist and get her booked in. She is absolutely over the moon about it. I’m still not sure how I’ll feel when she’s sat in that chair but at least I know she’s thought it through and isn’t just picking something random that she’ll regret when she’s 40, she has been thinking about it lots!

Tuesday was meant to be a quiet one but Becky had other plans and suggested lunch out and I wasn’t going to say no to that! It turned into one of those catch ups where you not only eat but also end up making even more plans. There’s now talk of us doing a bottomless brunch, visiting a new place just to mooch around the charity shops and even catching up with a friend. As much as the girls are busy with their own lives I really love that I still get included in their plans sometimes. It feels so special.

Ellie broke the news to me that she won’t be seeing the New Year in with us. Cue the tiny violins. hehehe She’ll be going out with her friends which is fair enough as it’s all part of growing up. Stu and I thought we’d make the best of it and plan a night away but then we realised the flaw in our plan. There are no buses on New Year’s Day so if we went away we’d have to stay two nights which would clash with Ellie’s own arrangements so it’s back to the drawing board. Thankfully, Becky has stepped in like a hero and offered to spend New Year’s Eve with us instead. Bless her, she saved us from ringing in 2026 looking a bit like abandoned puppies. lol

How has your week been? I hope you've had a good one. I am of course linking up with Anne who blogs at Raisie Bay to join in her Word of the Week linky!

  1. Tattoos are so common now! I´d be curious to know the percentage of adults who have them- it has to be pretty high. I hope that Ellie loves hers when she gets it :) Your week does sound lovely with plenty of plans and time spent doing out of the ordinary things with your family. It is great that you got your money refunded for milk spilling on the groceries. My week was busy since I worked a lot but it was good, nonetheless and I plan to work less next week so it´s all good :).

  2. Lots of lovely plans :) I hope Ellie is pleased when she gets her tattoo. If she's been that set on it for that long then the only thing you can do is what you're doing and support her. Karen Early Rising Mum

  3. I think it's exciting to get a new tattoo! I have made some questionable choices over the years, but I still don't regret any of mine. In fact, I'm planning on getting some more. And at least Ellie took you along before jumping straight in.
Boo to the spilt milk, but yay for the refund. We used to get random substitutes that made no sense at all, so we changed supermarkets.
Becky's a good egg, spending the New Year at home. Sending big hugs, with Ellie having her first New Year with mates. It's nice to see our kids getting out there and enjoying themselves, but so bloody hard on the heartstrings, isn't it! xx

  4. My daughter got her first (and only as far as I know) tattoo while away at uni. She didn't tell me about it I guess she thought I might disapprove but I noticed it one day when her top and jeans parted company. My attitude was it's your body but I was annoyed that we were subsidising her through uni at the time and she chose to spend money on a tattoo. And I didn't particularly like the tattoo - it's a butterfly but done just in one colour so not particularly pretty. I think it's great that she's let you be involved and you can make sure she uses a reputable place.

  5. All of your plans sound like fun including Ellie's tattoo. I would love one but I can never decide what it is I actually want to have.
I'm glad they refunded you for the spill, it drives me mad when the seal is open and it leaks in the fridge.
Your plans with Becky sound brilliant especially the charity shop mooch.
I hope all your plans go to plan!

  6. I am thinking of getting a tattoo. The only thing is that I hate needles, so none for me at least for now. I think these days having a tattoo is not seen as before. Also, I think you did best by making sure she has a tattoo she likes and means something.

  7. Oh it's so bittersweet when the kids get old enough to start making plans without you, especially for holidays. I'm not ready for it! I'm excited to see Ellie's tattoo. I have pondered getting one for years, but I just haven't done it yet.

  8. I think you've got the right attitude making sure if Ellie is getting a tattoo that she does it right. I'd not worry about New Year, it's quite expensive to stay away on NYE the prices go up an awful lot. You should consider going away on the 1st instead. #wotw

  9. So nice to have plans for the months and things to look forward to. Sounds like you and Ellie had a lovely day out. How annoying about the milk leaking everywhere but good that you got refunded. That’s good that you’ve made sure Ellie will be getting her tattoo somewhere reputable and she’s clearly thought it all through quite a lot which is a good thing too. Lovely to have lunch out with Becky and make more plans together and how lovely of her to offer to spend New Year’s Eve with you with Ellie planning on going out with her friends. #WotW
