Daddisms! The Top 20 Dad Phrases!

Over the last few weeks I have been spending more time with my dad. In fact I have been visiting him at least twice a week and spending a good few hours with him each visit. It has been lovely but he is such a dad. He has his little sayings which always make me roll my eyes and chuckle to myself.

Dad

I looked up the most common Daddisms and saw a poll of 2,000 adults who shared the most common, sarcastic or funny sayings that their fathers come out with on a daily basis and it turns out more than half reckon their father uses an average eight different 'dad phrases' regularly. I read through them and was nodding along thinking that yes, my dad uses some of them and in the past has said every single one at least once.

The Top 20 Dad Phrases!

2. Money doesn't grow on trees.
3. He's thick as two short planks.

6. I'm not going to tell you again.
7.  Were you raised in a barn.
8. Don't talk back to your mother.

10. They don't make them like they used to.
11. Stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about.

16. Now, don't go spending a lot on me.
17. A little hard work never hurt anybody.
18. You'll understand when you're older.
19. You don't know you're born.
20. Don't let the bedbugs bite.

Over the past few weeks my dad has said:

He's thick as two short planks talking about someone. I would normally say he shouldn't be mean about the person but they're not the sharpest knife in the block. That's another one he uses. lol

When I was your age and A little hard work never hurt anybody was used in just one conversation when I was helping him move some rubbish. He was telling me how much fitter he was when he was my age and as I was huffing and puffing trying to lift some wood he let me know that hard work wouldn't hurt me. It did hurt me actually, I was aching later that night.

They don't make them like they used to in reference to a gardening trowel he was using. It was a new one and it bent after about half an hour. He went on to tell me how he has lost his old one which was his dad's before him. He's right, they don't make things to last like they used to. He's taking his trowel back to the shop to complain. lol

Waste not, want not came about when his partner was throwing some out of date chocolate flakes and ice cream wafers out. She put them in the bin and he grabbed them straight out. He did make me laugh. Of course it's OK to use things just after the best before date but getting them out of the bin did make me chuckle.

It's not just my dad that says these things though, Stu says a lot of them to the girls too. A couple of nights ago Stu was laid on the sofa falling asleep and one of the girls said something to him and he said I'm not sleeping, I'm just resting my eyes.

Does your dad or your children's dad say any of these phrases?
