When I was sent the McCain Ready Baked Jackets to review I was sceptical.....What was the point of having frozen jacket potatoes? Who would spend more money buying microwave jacket potatoes when you can cook normal potatoes in the microwave anyway?
They Say....
Our Ready Baked Jackets have the taste of an oven baked jacket but take a fraction of the time to cook. We just select the best British potatoes, drizzle them with sunflower oil and then slowly bake to perfection. So all you need to do is pop it in the microwave for 5 minutes and add your favourite topping.
They're easy to prepare, you just take them out of the freezer....Remove them from the packaging and microwave them....It took 7 minutes for 2 potatoes cooked at the same time.
The potato was very soft and fluffy on the inside but it was very, very dry so had to add a lot of butter...Not the healthiest of meals.
The skin wasn't
crispy like it usually is when they are cooked in the oven but that
isn't really a problem for me because I like them both ways...
In Tesco at the moment a pack of two costs £1.65 and a packet of four costs £2.00 which in my opinion is very expensive!! These are a pretty costly way to eat jacket potatoes when you could get a whole bag of potatoes for the same price.....
I won't be buying these simply because of the price.....They do taste good but no different than a regular jacket potato!
I was sent a voucher from BzzAgent to get some McCain Ready Baked Jackets free of charge...This is my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own...
Hmmm I am of the same frame of mind I think - why would you buy a frozen jacket potato when you can cook a fresh one in the microwave - which is cheaper and probably healthier? Odd lol. Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested
ReplyDeleteExactly....lol
DeleteVery honest review. I wouldn't buy the for the same reason as you...price! #triedntested
ReplyDeleteThank you x
DeleteI tried these too, but quickly went back to doing them in the microwave, with another 10 minutes in the oven to crisp them up. They do taste nice, and are a quick option, but still prefer the regular jackets.

:D
DeleteI have to agree with you that they seem pretty pointless - I can ding a spud in 10 mins if I really need to (though I'd prefer it crisped up in the oven!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with #TriedTested
They do....
DeleteI don't understand the point of these at all and I wouldn't buy them because of the cost either!
ReplyDeleteThey do seem expensive x
DeleteI have recently converted to frozen jacket potatoes (different brand cheaper price) but prefer fresh so much nicer. I only use them occasionally for convenience. #TriedTested
ReplyDeleteI have seen Tesco do their own about £1 cheaper...
DeleteI agree that the potatoes are pretty pricey but if you are at work ect they're easy just to pick up instead of having sandwiches or pasta everyday and I think they have the real bonfire taste about them that you wouldn't just get if you only had a microwave great post! #triedtested
ReplyDeleteI do agree about the bonfire taste.....They do taste like that :) x
DeleteI do like the taste of these and I like that you get that oven baked taste much quicker. I do agree with you about the price though. I occasionally buy them on offer, however, won't pay full price!

DeleteLike you said, I think the price would put me off buying them, great review #triedtested
ReplyDeleteThank you x
DeleteAh, so it's just the convenience really then? Pricey compared to raw spuds. Good review x
ReplyDeleteThey are pricey....Thank you x
DeleteThe curry ones where nice but havent seen them for ages did once see them iceland last year but they went.
ReplyDeletestopped selling curry ones.
I've never seen the curry one's....Tasty.
DeleteGreat review and honest. I love that. I do like oven fresh ones made better if I have the time or use the microwave. If they are on offer maybe. #triedtested
ReplyDeleteThank you x
DeleteGreat review, I completely agree with you. We have tried them but don't really see the point, personally I prefer fresh Jackets x
ReplyDeleteThank you! I prefer fresh Jackets too.
DeleteI tought the same when i saw them, i think they are ok for a good back up in the freezer but thats about it x
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteGreat for a quick fix, although I'm a crispy skin fan myself.
ReplyDeleteI do love a bit of crispy skin.....hehehe
DeleteLovely honest review - whoi wants a dry jacket?
ReplyDeleteExactly....lol Thank you x
DeleteNo not something I would buy either. I take ordinary potato to microwave at work sometimes when I'm on night shift, but love them cooked in the oven best. #TriedTested

Deletefunnily enough, I did an online asda shop the other day. £2 for 4 of these of £1.15 for 4 actual jacket spuds, which take all of 4 more mins to cook in the microwave! x

Madness....lol
DeleteThanks for the very honest review! My daughters eat a lot of these at uni as they're quick & always good as a reserve when they're run out of fresh food.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI got into an argument over these potatoes on Facebook a while ago.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't buy these when you can cook them fresh in nearly the same amount of time. You said yours took 7 minutes for 2, I could cook 2 in the microwave in 9-10 minutes.
Thank you for your review

I've had a couple of arguments about them too....lol
DeleteMy child found a WORM inside her jacket potato, later was rushed to A&E due to vomiting then the food on her plate sent of for testing, mccains have not yet replied. Disgusting.
