A photo every day for a year! 3rd - 9th August! Week 32 of #Project365

I've had a good week, being busy but not anything really exciting. It has been a bit of a mismash of a week with electrical difficulties, job hunting for Stu, a day spent with Becky, just pottering about the house and telling everyone who'll listen about my giant cucumber. lol

We have had a quiet weekend as next weeks see's the start of birthday season in our house, Stu's and the girls birthdays are all in the space of 25 days. Eek! I think we are just about all sorted for them though, I do need to buy some cards during the week and then we just have to enjoy celebrating.

Now for a photo every day!

Buffy the Vampire slayer and my giant cucumber
Iced fruit cake
Sunflower and my youngest gaming
Vacuum and job advertisement

215/365 - 3rd August
I was watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer on Sunday, just some of my favourite episodes and The Gentlemen with never not give the me the creeps! That whole episode Hush is scary as most of it has no talking, just suspenseful music playing.

216/365 - 4th August
My giant cucumber, grown from a seed and it tasted delicious! I picked it later on in the week, sort of in a panic that it might go bad being almost on the ground. You can see a photo of it sliced on my Friday post, we ate it with a salad we had for tea.

217/365 - 5th August
Iced Rich Fruit Cake and in a couple of months it will be repackaged, a couple of pounds added to the price and will be called Christmas cake. lol I still love the stuff.

218/365 - 6th August
Just a sunflower in my garden on a sunny day! Hasn't the weather been nice over the last couple of days. It feels like summer has returned again. I can't even measure the tallest sunflower in my garden anymore as it's too tall and I can't reach. I might have to get Becky to measure it as she has longer arms than me.

219/365 - 7th August
It was a bit rainy, I had to run and shut all the bedroom windows as the rain was coming in. Ellie had a day at home and there were no limits on screen time. She spent the afternoon gaming with friends.

220/365 - 8th August
I had to look twice at my dad's vacuum, it looked like a Henry Hoover but was called Numatic. It turns out Numatic and Henry are related. hahaha Numatic is the company who makes the Henry vacuums. I did not know that until Friday. You learn something new every day!

221/365 - 9th August
While looking for jobs for Stu I found my dream job, a dream as in it's never going to happen. A UK wrestling promotion is looking for all the staff! I would love to be a wrestling commentator and could be quite good at it, I always have a lot to say when watching it on TV. So for those who think anything Wrestling doesn't pay and is a fake career the jobs are on the Indeed website. lol

This week my Word of the Week is: Mishmash!! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Mishmash

I have had a really, really quiet week and it has been a bit of a mishmash with technical difficulties, life admin and everyday moments that somehow all blended together. There hasn't been any grand adventures or wild plans but it was definitely not boring either!

Early on in the week we had some technical difficulties with some electronics. We had a power cut on Sunday which lasted 10 seconds which was enough to switch everything off but it all came straight back on within seconds. Between then and Monday afternoon some electronics weren't working how they should. It was like when your phone does an update and everything is the same but slightly different. I spent hours looking at how to fix it, tried everything and eventually gave up as I thought that was it, we'd have to live with it acting differently. It turns out all it needed was another power cut on Monday afternoon which lasted a couple of hours to fix it, it has worked perfectly since. Phew! What a relief. All it needed was another power surge.

I have been sorting out Ellie's Child Trust Fund that she can have access to when she turns 18. (There are only 21 days and yes she is counting down. lol) She has done well with it and there is more in it than we thought there would be. It's one of those things we have just left for 18 years and it has grown. There is a considerable amount which she is planning to put in her savings account and just let it sit and gain interest because as things stand now she is so close to having a paid part time job and that will do for her spending money. She got a phone call during the week inviting her for an interview and from what we have gathered from speaking to people most people who are interviewed with the company get a job. If that doesn't work out she still has the volunteer job to fall back on and will still keep her money in her savings as she won't be spending money to get there as they cover her bus fares and supply her with drinks and snacks while she is working.

On Tuesday I had Becky at home all day which was lovely, she usually has plans so it was a nice change to have her to myself. I did the housework, she slept until almost lunch time and then she decided to order in for lunch from Taco Bell and I was so proud of myself. I am not a big fan of it but usually I would get something with her just so I didn't have to make anything myself but this time I said no thank you and made my own lunch. She enjoyed the food and did give me one of her churros. We spent the rest of the afternoon just watching TV and randomly sending each other TikToks. Ellie was supposed to be home but she made plans with friends. It's the last long summer she will have in education so I am letting her make the most of it even if that means seeing less of her.

I did a little shop on Shein during the week for birthday decorations for Ellie, I would have shopped from somewhere like Card Factory or the supermarkets but they were so much cheaper from Shein. I only went on for a few banners and balloons and came away with a birthday sash saying "18 today" which she will be wearing on her birthday and when she has her first proper night out with friends. lol, hanging streamers, giant 18 balloons and a cake topper. I picked out a few new dresses for me, everyone else has new clothes for Ellie's meal out so I thought I would treat myself. I was meaning to get Ellie's opinion on the three and remove two but forgot, oops. They are all being delivered, I am sure I will find somewhere else to wear the dresses.

Yesterday I spent most of the day at my dad's usually I have at least one of the girls with me but one was sleeping for work, the other was busy so it was just me and it was lovely to spend some one on one time with my dad. He was so chuffed with his latest find, an apple tree. It was right down one of his fields, he reckons with the height of it and how many apples it already has on it has been there for years but never noticed it even though he passes by it all of the time. It is going to give some great apples in a couple of months as long as we can get past the bramble bushes.

So that's the excitement from my week, not very exciting really but some weeks are like that. How has your week been? I hope you have had a good one! I am of course linking up with Anne who blogs at Raisie Bay for her Word of the Week linky!

What I have loved this week! Week 32. #FridayFavourites

I have had a really quiet week, I've hardly left the house for no reason apart from I've had nowhere to really go and my family have all been busy doing their own thing. It hasn't been a bad thing, it has been nice to stay home and just potter around. I am of course linking up with Erika and Andrea to share the things that I have loved over this past week.

What I have loved this week

Another job interview for my youngest!
We've decided jobs are like buses, nothing for ages and then two come along at once. lol A few weeks ago I mentioned how my youngest Ellie was struggling to get a part time job to work around college, she's been applying for everything suitable since. She has had the interview for the volunteer role at a charity and it went well and this week she had a phone call inviting her for an interview for paid work. It is a no brainer that she is going to go for the paid work if the job is offered. She of course feels bad if she has to turn down the volunteer position but like she said kindness doesn't pay the bills. Of course at the moment she has no bills to pay but she has a life to pay for. Hanging out with friends, make up, clothes, trips to the cinema and all those teenage things. It is a very exciting time for my girl.

A power cut!
The power going off wasn't a favourite but we had a fun time when it was off. Ellie went through all of her clothes in her bedroom and sorted them out, I did the same too and even paired a basket full of socks we usually just rummage though to find a pair. My fella had a tidy in the garage and we just had lots of giggles and fun. Ellie started hinting that if the power was still off at tea time we should get a takeaway or even go to the pub for tea. She didn't think that one through, the local takeaways and pub had no power either. Thankfully it was only off a couple of hours, we were lucky.

Flowers!

Flowers in my garden

All the rain we had over the weekend really brought out the flowers in my garden! There is so much colour now and of course weeds, I have just about given up weeding, I think if I had pulled some last week they might have actually have been the flowers which bloomed this week so now I am not taking the risk. lol

Mooching around a car boot sale.
There was one locally. People set up their tables to sell their second hand goods and we had a good rummage. I love seeing what people are selling. One man's junk is another man's treasure as they say and I was quite good and didn't buy everything that I wanted to. There was a stall selling crystals and jewellery and my youngest wanted quite a few things so I am hoping they are back next time and I can pick a few up for her birthday as a surprise.

Lots of Wrestling!
Four evenings on the trot I watched the WWE. I always watch the shows the day after they are shown as they usually start so late with the time difference between the US and England. For me this week has gone Saturday Smackdown, Sunday Summerslam, Monday Summerslam and then Tuesday Raw. There was an 11pm start on Saturday night so I watched the first match before dragging myself away and then on Sunday night I went to bed before 11pm just so I wouldn't stay up and end up watching it all until the early hours of the morning. I have no self control. lol

A picked cucumber!

The cucumber I grew in my garden

My cucumber that was growing in the garden practically tripled in size over the last few weeks and I was starting to panic that it might go bad out there. I Googled when cucumbers are good to pick and it looked good so I picked it, gave it a wash and sliced it! It was fantastic and we had salad that night so of course I added some to that.

Wednesday!
While attending Nevermore Academy, Wednesday Addams attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a killing spree and solve the mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago. The second season is now on Netflix. I do love the show. I love Steve Buscemi in it as the new principal, was surprised with Billie Pipers American accent and I was also surprised to see Joanna Lumley in it. I finished the episodes and now have to wait until next month for the rest. Hmmf.

A taste of Autumn.
We are in the middle of summer but we have had a couple of grey and damp days and they felt very Autumnal. I almost thought about lighting one of my Pumpkin Spice scented candles. I have noticed it getting darker earlier on an evening and Ellie tells me they have started stocking all things Autumn in a couple of shops which we like. We are going to go to town next week and have a look and see what there is.

What have you loved over the past week?

My top 10 summer essentials!

Every year I tell myself I don’t need to buy more stuff for summer but then the sun comes out and suddenly I’m like, wait I need that amazing bottle and those sandals and probably another fan because last year’s one mysteriously disappeared. So here's my top 10 summer essentials I honestly can’t live without!

Sunglasses on the beach

A refillable water bottle that actually keeps things cold!
I used to think all water bottles were created equally but then got an insulated one that keeps your drink cold for hours even if it's roasting outside. It was a game changer and the silly thing was it was only a few pounds of Temu! Not only does it save money and the planet but having cold water on hand means I’m less likely to reach for sugary drinks all day.

A playlist full of Summer anthems!
Summer isn’t summer without a soundtrack! The minute the sun peeks out, I’m queuing up a playlist full of 90s and 2000s bangers and cheesy party tracks.

Dry shampoo!
The sun does strange things to my hair, it's nothing at all to do with me dying it, hehehe It goes all dry, flat at the roots and frizzy at the ends so dry shampoo becomes my best friend. It adds volume, freshens up sweaty roots and makes me feel just a little bit more polished when I’ve been too busy to deal with my hair properly!

Slip on sandals!
Who has time for buckles? There comes a point every year where my toes want freedom and my ankles want air. Last year I had the comfiest pair but I went to wear them a few months ago and they're now to big so I pinched a pair off Ellie which I gave here when they were too small last year. I have a few pairs now. One for every day wear, a pair for going out, out and one pair designated just for garden and bin duty.

Iced coffee!
I need my coffee fix but I am not keen on drinking hot drinks when it is warm even though my dad swears that they cool you down. I make my own but when I’m being lazy the ones from the shop do the trick. I am loving this Galaxy Mocha Frappe at the moment, you just add ice and milk!

Galaxy Mocha Frappe

Tinted moisturiser with SPF!
I ditch foundation in the summer as it just melts off anyway. Instead I go for a tinted moisturiser with SPF built in. A little bit of glow, a little bit of coverage and sun protection in one product.

Ice Lollies!
I have ice lollies in the freezer all year round but I make sure to keep the drawer stocked up at this time of year. Rocket lollies, Fab's, Mini Milks, posh fruity ones which only I am allowed to eat and of course Cornetto ice cream ones but to be honest I’m not fussy when it comes to icy treats.

A collection of no cook meal ideas!
I love cooking until it’s 30C in my kitchen and turning on the oven feels like entering the seventh circle of hell. That’s when I rely on my no cook meal list of picky plates, wraps, salads and sandwiches stuffed with leftovers and whatever’s in the fridge. Anything that doesn’t involve sweat or washing up is a win in my books!

Sunglasses!
You know those people who wear sunglasses as a headband, that is me! I always leave the house with them. I had a favourite pair which I've used for the last couple of years and then I lost them so I bought a cheap set from Primark and lost them too, bought another 2 pairs and obviously now I've found them all. It's a good job all the one's I have are slightly different! I couldn't be without sunglasses when the sun is out! I hate brightness in my eyes!

Frozen grapes!
I saved the best for last. If you’ve never tried frozen grapes in summer you’re missing a trick. Pop a bag in the freezer and thank me later. They’re like mini sorbets. Sweet, icy and ridiculously satisfying. Great for snacking, topping up a glass of wine to keep it chilled.

The Wednesday Hodgepodge #23

I hope you are all having a good week? It's Wednesday which means it's time to join in with the Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce over at From This Side of the Pond! Each week there are 6 questions, we answer and then link up. Simple!

Question marks on paper crafts

1. The midpoint of summer (believe it or not) is August 7th. Describe a perfect summer day. Have you had one this year?

This summer is going too quickly already. I don't know what a perfect summers day would be now that my girls are older, maybe a trip to the beach when the weather is nice but not too hot. It would have to include fish and chips and a trip to the arcades.

I don't think we've had the a full perfect summers day but we've had lots of moments which add up to the perfect day. Cherry picking, eating ice creams, pottering around in the garden, getting caught in the summer rain, a day at a nearby country show, walks out and lots of making memories.

2. What's one thing you wish you knew before starting high school?

Friendships will change. When I started secondary school I thought the friends I started with would be the one's I would leave school with but friendships change, people grow apart, take different paths and find new interests. Not every friend is meant to be in your life forever.

3. What's something that bothers you if it's not done perfectly?

Making a cup of tea! Too weak and it feels like you’re drinking warm, brown water and too strong and it tastes bitter. It has to be just right! Even the mug it is made in matters, it has to fit just right in my hands and keep the tea warm.

4. What's the most overrated food you're convinced people are just pretending to enjoy? What's a trendy food you actually do enjoy and would say is definitely not overrated?

I think kale is so overrated! It’s packed with nutrients and looks great in Instagram salads but sometimes it feels like people are forcing themselves to like it because it’s good for them or trendy rather than because it actually tastes delicious.

One trendy food I do enjoy is loaded fries especially with toppings like cheese, bacon and sauces. They're indulgent, satisfying and perfect for sharing. They’re definitely a treat food that are not overrated.

5. Wrapping it up this week with five fun this or thats...

Personal stylist or Personal chef?
I would choose a chef as long as they're willing to cook all of my meals.

Dance like nobody's watching or Sing like nobody's listening?
Sing like nobody's listening. I am a bad singer and I won't sing in front of people so it would be nice if they weren't listening.

Unlimited tacos or Free pizza?
Pizza! That was an easy decision.

Bookshelf organization-by size or by genre?
I always organise books by size. I feel that it looks tidier.

Ten minutes late or Ten minutes early?
10 minutes early, I hate being late for anything.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Isn’t it funny how the weather can change your whole mood? I woke up and it was rainy and it put me in such a grumpy mood. Those grey skies made the smallest tasks feel like a big effort and I felt like just sitting and doing nothing. By the afternoon the sun came out and it was like someone hit the reset button on my whole mood, everything felt lighter, brighter and I found my motivation to get around to ticking things off my to do list.

365 Days Of Gratitude. In July I was grateful for...

July was a good month for us, mostly! It flew over which is to be expected with Ellie being off college for her summer break, getting ready for 2 birthdays this month and one at the start of September and towards the end of the month job hunting for Stu and Ellie.

I have seen many people on social media list something every day that they are grateful for and thought I would join in. I did this for the whole of the last couple of years and it has really made me realise that even on the bad day's I have something to be grateful for.

Grateful

Our weekly meal plan! 4th - 10th August! #MealPlanningMonday

Our weekly meal plan

Last weeks meal plan went well. We ate everything apart from the pizza on Friday, we ended up having pizza for lunch at my dad's so ended up getting a takeaway from the Fish & Chip shop. My favourite meal from last week was the Honey sesame chicken with potato and green bean curry. It was a fun recipe to make, seeing it all come together and it tasted good too. Usually I am not a fan of green beans but this time I really liked them. My family loved the one pot pork and beef cheeseburger macaroni, it was a little too cheesy for me though.

I don't know what I have on this week, Stu wants to do something today but it depends on the weather and both the girls are home tomorrow so I am going to try and do something fun with them. The girls are busy for the rest of the week though they have loads on and have so far kept me informed about where they are going to be. Hooray!

On the menu this week we have:

Monday - I am not sure yet, it depends on what we end up doing and the weather, it's forecast rain for most of today.
Tuesday - Gousto meal - Chicken Katsu Salad With Curried Coconut Croutons. My family are not usually fans of salads but love anything which includes chicken katsu so that swung it.
Wednesday - Tuna and sweetcorn fishcakes with new potatoes. I always say Stu will eat anything but when it comes to seafood he becomes fussy. He will only eat tuna if it isn't obvious and in his face. This should be hidden enough.
Thursday - Gousto meal - Sesame Pork & Egg Fried Brown Rice. We have had this before and really enjoyed it.
Friday - A help yourself evening.
Saturday - Gousto meal - Sausage and mustard sarnie with smokey potato wedges.
Sunday - Pie, mashed potato and vegetables of some sort.

What are you eating this week?

A photo every day for a year! 27th July - 2nd August! Week 31 of #Project365

Sunday again, these weekends are coming around far too quickly for my liking. We're into August now and it feels like Summer is going to go by so fast. It's only a couple of weeks until my fellas birthday, then Ellie's a couple of weeks after and then Becky's soon after that and then it will be heading into Autumn. Eesh! Time needs to slow down!!

I hope you are all having a good weekend. We haven't been up to much and don't have anything planned. The weather isn't supposed to be great today or tomorrow with Storm Floris hitting. Stu was meant to be cutting the grass but I don't think the weather will allow it so I will do it during the week.

Now for a photo every day!

England winning the Euros and steak pie
My youngest and a new printer
My eldest and a ladybird
Buttermilk pancakes

208/365 - 27th July
The Lionesses did it again and won the Euro's. It had to go to penalties but we got there in the end! They are an amazing bunch of ladies.

209/365 - 28th July
Home made steak and ale pie with mash and veg, not made in my home though, we went out for tea to the pub. With 30% off on a Monday it is an affordable treat.

210/365 - 29th July
My youngest! I caught her just as she was coming in and asked for a photo and she surprisingly said yes! The Nirvana t-shirt she had on wasn't an off the shoulder one a few months ago but she hated how tight it was around her neck so it has been customised. hehehe

211/365 - 30th July
I tried and tried with the printer and got it printing last weekend but it wasn't great so we caved in and decided to get a new one. It was only £35 which surprised me, I thought it would have cost a lot more. It's near enough the same as our old one with the scanner on but works a million times better!

212/365 - 31st July
I caught Becky just before she was going out and got a photo from her too. hehehe She wasn't as sleepy as she looked, she had been sneezing. She was blaming hay fever.

213/365 - 1st August
Another ladybird in my garden! There seems to be so many this year. The other day, everywhere I looked there was a ladybird crawling about.

214/365 - 2nd August
My favourite pre-made pancakes. They were part of a meal from my Gousto box! Hot honey bacon and fried egg pancakes.

This week my Word of the Week is: Applying! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Applying

Stu didn't get the job he applied for and had an interview for earlier this week, there was 30 other people being interviewed and only 2 jobs so the odds were against him. Oh well, just getting the interview has given him the motivation to apply for more jobs and our week has been filled with me going through all the job advertisement websites and picking out suitable jobs. That is a full time job in it's self. lol and when Stu has got home from work he has been applying and filling in the application forms.

I always laugh that people applying for jobs get creative writing their CV but looking through lists of jobs companies are very creative with the job titles as well. A Customer Experience Agent is just customer support, a Traffic Management Operative is someone who puts temporary traffic lights up, a Maintenance Cleaning Assistant and Hygiene Operatives are cleaners, a Relationships Engagement Partner, Lifestyle Assistant or an Activities Coordinator is a care assistant and an Appointment Setter and Closer is a cold caller. lol

I found a job for Stu that I wanted him to apply for and get just so he could have some awkward conversations when people ask where do you work. It was a job at a toy factory, an adult toy factory. Use your imagination and you are probably right. They even offered staff discount and said they wouldn't judge. lol It's immature to laugh about but I guess someone has to make those type of "toys". In case you were wondering it was too far to travel so he didn't apply. Hmmf.

Applying for a job now isn't just sending a CV and cover letter, there are follow up questions, online accounts to make on the companies websites and more questions to answer. How would you handle a situation where you were overwhelmed with tasks? What does good customer service mean to you? Where do you see yourself in five years? What interests you about this role? The strangest question I've seen is what did your parents do for work when you were 14 years old? Does it matter?

Stu hasn't been the only one applying for jobs and filling out application forms. Ellie has too but her filling out the forms has been much more amusing. I will have a whole blog post to write about her job hunting, it has been challenging from my point of view, helping her create a CV and explaining to her that the companies are not being sexist when they ask if she is a Miss, Mrs, Ms, Dr, or Reverend but come to think of it why does it matter. lol We have got creative with her employment history and skills. She has an interview soon for a volunteering job which at the moment is better than nothing. She's doing something good and will have something extra to put on her CV.

How has your week been? I hope you have had a good one! I am of course linking up with Anne who blogs at Raisie Bay for her Word of the Week linky!

What I have loved this week! Week 31. #FridayFavourites

Happy Friday and happy first day of August! I have had a good week despite not really getting up to much. I have enjoyed pottering around the house and just doing my own thing. I am of course linking up with Erika and Andrea to share the things that I have loved over this past week.

What I have loved this week

England winning the Euro's!
The ladies did it again and I couldn't have been happier. We went behind by a goal which seems pretty normal with the Lionesses and I wasn't worried in the slightest despite my family panicking, they got a goal in the 2nd half and it went all the way to penalties which of course was tense but they smashed it!

Honey Sesame Chicken With Potato & Green Bean Curry!
This was the meal I was most looking forward to from my meal plan and it didn't disappoint! I didn't add all of the curry powder and it was just right, a little tingle but not too spicy and it tasted delicious! I really should have taken a photo after I had made it as for once it actually looked like the picture from the recipe card!

WWE: Unreal - Netflix!
Going backstage with WWE Superstars and staff as they bring the company's spectacles to life, from Monday Night RAW to WrestleMania. I've watched wrestling off and on for years and it's not often you get to see what happens backstage and what goes into creating the shows. I watched all 5 episodes of the documentary over a couple of days and found it so interesting, especially when it came to the matches which were planned and how they changed so much when the shows started.

A job opportunity for my youngest!
My youngest has been applying for any job which is suitable for her and is having no luck so far. It's that time of year where all teenegers and young adults decide they want a job so it's bad timing but she came up with an idea of volunteering in a charity shop where she will gain experience, have something to put on her CV and a new reference as well. She's got through 2 stages of the process and the interview stage is next which she is part dreading and part excited for.

A single Brussles Sprout!
As well growing cucumbers, I have found three now I discovered a Brussles Sprout, just the one. lol I remember planting them in pots and growing it from a seed but I thought the plant had died after I had planted it. I am proud of it, it might just be the one so far but now I know I can grow them I might do better next year!

A single Brussels sprout

A new printer!
We have had our printer for years and years and over the last couple of years it has been really temperamental. I spent 2 hours messing about with it trying to get it to print something on Saturday so we decided it was time to get a new one. I thought the prices of printers would be at around £100 but we got almost the same as our old one for £35. Bargain! It is amazing and just printing the test page showed us how awful our old printer was.

A job interview!
I mentioned in my Word of the Week post about how my fella Stu isn't happy in his current job so he has been applying for others. He had an interview at the start of the week and heard back yesterday, he didn't get it. That wasn't a favourite of mine but Stu enjoyed the experience of the interview and just having the interview has inspired him to apply for more and more jobs. The job he had the interview for would have been perfect but he found out there were two positions available and they were interviewing 30 people so the odds were against him.

Cool weather!
It has been a lot cooler here and I am so happy about it. It is still warm enough to go out with a t-shirt and no jacket but there's no sweating, burning in the sun and feeling exhausted from the heat! Although as I am writing this it looks cloudy and like it could rain which I wouldn't be upset about, my garden could do with the it. I always think rain falling is better for the garden than me watering it using a watering can.

What have you loved over the past week?
