What I have loved this week! Week 38. #FridayFavourites

Happy Friday, I hope you have all had a good week. Mine hasn't been awful but at the same time it hasn't been the best either as I’ve been struck down with a full on cold, the lurgy has found me. My fella very kindly brought it home from work and being the generous soul he is decided to share it around. I started with the sore throat and sniffles on Sunday, by Tuesday my eldest had joined the club and now we’re all just waiting to see when my youngest catches it. She reckons she hasn’t got time for a cold with her busy life. lol So today’s Friday Favourites is coming at you as the cold edition. Of course I am linking up with Erika and Andrea to share the simple things which have got me through this week.

What I have loved this week

My blanket!
I should have known I was coming down with something on Saturday evening, I had that shivery feeling where I just couldn't get warm. I got my favourite blanket out of storage which seems early, usually I don't usually reach for it until at least October! I have had it on me all week when I have been sat in my armchair.

Tissues!
Usually when it comes to a sniffly nose I’m not fancy, I use kitchen roll or toilet paper but when I’ve got a proper cold that is when I crack open the posh tissues. The ones that are extra soft and don’t make my nose feel like sandpaper after a day of constant blowing. What a treat for my nose! Tissues are one of those underrated things that you appreciate when you’re under the weather.

A not so mild chicken curry!
On my meal plan on Monday we were planning to have a mild chicken curry from our Gousto box. It was that mild there wasn't any curry powder in which is usually fine, sometimes a plain, creamy curry is just what we want but this week I wanted something with a bit of spice and heat to help with my cold. I also added extra ginger, garlic and turmeric to help with my symptoms. I do think it helped!

Sneezing!
I never thought I’d say this but sneezing has been an actual highlight of my week. My nose has been in that annoying state of being both blocked and running at the same time and the pressure was unreal so whenever I sneezed it released some of that pressure and it was instant relief! Who'd have thought sneezing would make me so happy!

KFC!
I’ve never been a big fan of KFC. I always thought it was too greasy and too salty but earlier in the week Becky suggested we order in for lunch. I wasn’t really fussed but I wasn’t about to turn down food that I didn’t have to cook or pay for as she was buying. It was actually really nice, the fillet burger and fries hit the spot perfectly. Maybe it was because I was that hungry I’d have eaten anything?

Easy TV!
Being ill meant my concentration levels were low so I’ve been sticking with easy to watch TV. Shows where I don’t need to follow too many plot twists or think too hard. I’ve been dipping into The Crown and Gilmore Girls because they’re cosy, comforting background shows for this time of year. I also watched a couple of films on Netflix that were easy to watch.

The Wrong Paris! - A woman signs up for a dating show thinking it’s in Paris, France, only to discover it’s actually in Paris, Texas. Cue lots of awkwardness, predictable romance and all the usual Netflix romcom fluff. Exactly what my foggy brain needed.

The Life List! - A young woman ends up tackling her teenage bucket list after her mum pushes her into it. There’s family drama, romance, self discovery which was totally predictable but still a great comfort watch.

Hot drinks!
Tea, tea and more tea. Oh, and did I mention tea! The kettle has been working overtime this week. I’ve been drinking ginger tea, honey tea, Lemsip cold and flu stuff and of course the some hot chocolate. The hot chocolate wasn’t doing anything for my cold but I just wanted to treat myself.

Lots of food!
Some people lose their appetite when they’ve got a cold but not me. I’ve been eating like a Hobbit this week! Second breakfasts, elevenses, the whole lot. Comfort food has been calling me! I’ve wanted carbs and cakes. Thankfully I did some baking over the weekend so we had homemade apple cake and mini apple pies to snack on.

It’s been a snotty, sneezy, grumpy kind of week but thankfully I am feeling much better now. Phew!

How has your week been? What have you been loving?

  1. I´m glad that you´re feeling better now; I´m sorry you felt under the weather this week. It sounds like a head cold which is no fun. But you made the most of it and it sounds like you were cared for well so that is a good thing! I hope your weekend is a really good one with a full recovery of your health and continued TLC. Sending germ free hugs, hehe :).

  2. Yikes, having a cold is no fun! I always hate it when that happens. It makes you feel awful while at the same time it's usually not so bad you can stay in bed. Hope you feel better soon!

Telly, comfort food and lots of cuppas sounds like the perfect medicine.

  7. Glad you're feeling better and hope that it passed over Ellie. The last time Vic was sick, he wanted Hot and Sour Soup from the local Chinese takeaway. It seemed to help. Paris, France and Paris, Texas, that's so funny. I once saw a photo that said it was a help desk at the airport in Austria for people who thought they'd booked a flight to Australia. I'm sure it's just a meme but it made me laugh.

  8. Oh I am so sorry! I hope you are 100% very soon. I am the same way - I need the lotion tissues when I am blowing my nose a lot. Tom actually requires real tissues in the house. He feels strongly and we use the Costco brand. Lol. Hot drinks are key!

  9. Aw, you poor thing! I hope everyone is feeling better soon (or that Ellie manages to avoid it altogether!). I'm hoping to watch The Wrong Paris today and I'll have to add the other one you mentioned to my watch list. I hadn't heard of that one.

  10. Kim, I’m so glad to hear you’re starting to feel better! I had to laugh at sneezing making your “favorites list,” but I totally get it…that instant relief is real. Your blanket, posh tissues, and endless cups of tea sound like the perfect comforts. And now I’m craving homemade apple cake after reading this, yum! I’ve never watched The Wrong Paris but it sounds like the perfect cozy sick-day movie. Hope this next week is kinder to you and full of healthier days ahead!

  11. How generous of your fella to distribute the cold in your family and you got the biggest portion as his dear wife ! I am always half dead when I have a cold, but lately my nose is on strike I get it as a bronchitis.

  13. I am glad to read at the end that you are feeling better!! There is a saying... Feed a cold, starve a fever. Sounds like you did just that and it worked!! I hope the rest of the family are still doing okay and/or are also over the sniffles. I enjoyed your post!! Happy weekend ahead!

  17. HAHA! Best quote ever you said, "I have been eating like a hobbit this week." I LOVE IT. HAHA!!! I love a good cheesy predictable cozy show when my brain is on overload and concentration is low.
Hugs and I hope you feel much better soon.
