I hope you are all having a good week? It's Wednesday which means it's time to join in with the Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce who blogs at From This Side of the Pond! Each week there are 6 questions, we answer and then link up. Simple!
1. Besides Thanksgiving, something on your November calendar you're looking forward to?
November is my favourite month out of all of the months, I actually published a blog post yesterday about what I am looking forward to and have planned. I think the big things are my birthday, the new Wicked Movie, Stranger Things and all the Christmas excitement and build up.
2. Dictionary.com's word of the year is '6-7'. Huh? Is it even a word??? I had to consult the internet to find out it's meaning because apparently I'm old and this particular slang is not part of my vocabulary. Is it part of yours? According to the article I read, it's a viral term, more of an inside joke with an unclear meaning driven by social media. What do you think?
Dictionary. com says it's selection each year is a 'linguistic time capsule reflecting social trends and events, but they also admitted to being confused by '6-7'. Some say it means so-so and is sometimes accompanied by the up and down hand motion we associate with the phrase so-so.
What word do you think would have made a better choice?
I saw that too and had the exact same reaction! 6 - 7. Huh? I had to Google it and still don't understand it. I feel old. I think they only picked it because it was everywhere online even though no one really knows what it means. I get that they want to reflect pop culture but it’s not even a word! I have started using it myself though, when my girls ask me something and I don’t have a clue how to answer I say 6 - 7, shrug and move on. Works every time! hehehe.
If I had to pick a word of the year, something that actually sums up 2025 I would go with something like "Aura" because everyone’s obsessed with it these days or "AI something" since it’s creeping into everything!
3. What's a food, trend, activity, or thing people love but you think is just so-so?
Escape rooms! Everyone acts like they’re these epic adventures full of suspense and clever tricks but being locked in a room with puzzles and a ticking clock just screams stress to me. I get that some people love the challenge but it's not for me. I prefer calmer activities.
4. Are you a tea drinker? Hot or cold? How do you like yours and at what time of day? Do you like flavored teas or teas billed as calming, energizing, healing, etc?
Oh! I am a tea drinker. Proper British style: PG Tips, Tetley or Yorkshire Tea which which is my favourite. Hot, strong and always in a mug that’s far too big for my hands. I like mine with a splash of milk and two sugars. I drink at least 3 a day. I need it in the morning to get me moving, another cup with lunch because life’s better with a sip of warmth and then another around 8pm paired with something sweet like a slice of cake or some biscuits. I've tried those fancy calming and energizing teas but no thank you! They taste like someone dunked a flower in hot water and hoped for the best.
5. The November Hodgepodge has always included a weekly gratitude question. Here's the question for today-what are three things that make your heart sing?
My girls! Just those little moments together! Laughing until our cheeks hurt, random chats about everything and nothing or watching them do something utterly ridiculous. It fills me up in a way nothing else does.
Time with my dad! He’s like a human pause button! Just being around him makes everything feel calmer and slower and I really need that sometimes.
Good food! It doesn’t matter if it’s fancy or just comfort food straight from the oven there’s nothing like a full belly to make me feel happy.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Going back to question 2 and my mention of AI. It seems to be everywhere now, creeping into our everyday lives. The apps on our phones, streaming music, in our cars, smart home gadgets and even the way we shop or scroll online. It’s amazing but also a bit unnerving when you stop and think about it. I’ve seen The Terminator movies enough times to know that while we’re not on the brink of a robot takeover just yet it’s a good idea to pay attention. The more we let AI make decisions for us like finishing our sentences, suggesting what we should do next the more we risk losing a little bit of control over our own lives. It’s exciting but also a reminder that we need to stay thoughtful about how much we let it in.

Yay for tea! Some of my fondest memories are doing something that involved a cup of tea. I find AI so irritating especially when they feature a member of the Royal Family doing something or wearing something they would never ever do or wear.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that something AI should have been the word of the year and agree with your random thought. I love how you answered question 5, too. How fortunate to have a dad and one who's such a positive impact on your life. Kids and food and great things, too, to be thankful for :) I'd love a proper cup of tea! My little tea bags and flavors are definitely Americanized (ie not proper!) I'm sure!! Have a great one!
ReplyDeleteI love your description of a tea that isn't classic. We buy Yorkshire tea and last time we got Yorkshire Gold? Mason puts milk and sugar in his and I just put some liquid stevia usually. Mason makes at least 3 teas a day and sometimes one as late as 10 pm.
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have your dad. I often wonder what my relationship would be like with my dad now that I am retired. I miss drinking beer, wine, or coffee with him. We sat outside and talked a lot when we were together.
I’m 100% with you on the AI stuff and answered similarly to you. I’m completely freaked out by it, to be honest. Giving up control to a computer seems so very wrong. I just do not understand the fascination with this.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your November post a lot. I don't get the thrill of an escape room either. I love PG tips and we can sometimes find them here. I like Yorkshire too but I don't see that one in our stores. I re-read 1984 this month and it's amazing how much of what he imagined for the future is here now. A bit scary too. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThe 6-7 things is so strange...I even heard a preschooler saying it and I'm sure she has no idea why!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI agree about the escape rooms. Nope! Thankfully my boys never wanted to do them.
I LOVED your #5!!!
I also like what you shared in your random, I agree with you!!
Carla
Ugh, that whole AI thing is so scary. Now we go around saying is that really true or is that an AI thing. Wonderful things that make your heart sing! I'm going to use that 6-7 response with my kids soon and see if they know about it. :) Thank you so much for your visit and sweet comment on my blog. Happy day to you!
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in England, I definitely needed a hot drink (tea or coffee) in the afternoon to warm up during the winter months. I agree about escape rooms too.
ReplyDeleteKim, I enjoyed your answers today! I don't think any of us knew about that 6&7 thing. Good grief!! I am a coffee drinker, but do enjoy hot tea now and then. I drink iced tea all the time, though.
ReplyDeleteMy kids love doing escape rooms but my hubby and I haven't been yet. We've been planning to try one with friends soon and I'm a little anxious about it because I just don't know what to expect. Might love it but also I might find it stressful.
ReplyDeleteI love how you described what you love about spending time with your girls and with your dad. A "human pause button" is such a darling way to describe someone who has that calming presence. And yes, we do need that and we should appreciate the folks that help us with it.
Hope you're having a lovely week!
Sounds like so many fun things lined up for November. Funny that we both picked AI for the word. It’s taking over, it seems. It honestly scares me. I’ve never done an escape room. Your three things that makes your heart sing is so precious!!
ReplyDeleteI think you are the only person who likes November ! Usually everybody thinks that it is the worst months of the year ! I love spring, April or May !
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I had the same reaction to 6-7 being added to the dictionary. Is it even a word?! Haha. Our kids do say it all the time, though. Sigh. I love hot tea, too, and I drink at least two cups a day. One day I need to try it your way with milk and sugar. I'm cracking over your thoughts about dunking a flower in it and hoping for the best because that's exactly what some of those taste like. So gross. And AI is TERRIFYING to me. It seriously scares me to death. It seems like it's replacing everything and I feel like it's going to take over the world one day if we're not careful. I am one of the few who do not use AI like Chat GPT and all those. I refuse. Haha.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed reading this post Kim. I'm with you on the tea. No fancy/weird ones for me either and yes how can 6-7 be included as a word? I like the idea of escape rooms for the puzzle elements but I would find it too stressful to be locked in. I'm sure AI can be useful in some ways but I'm giving it a wide berth. I like to use my own brain thank you.
