This week my Word of the Week is:
We're ready for Christmas and ready for the fun to start. I feel like all the hard jobs are out of the way now and the next week is all about enjoying the good things.
Well, I say we're ready but we're waiting for the online food shop to be delivered in a couple of days. I have been on a few times and tweaked the list, at the moment it feels like a daily obsession. I go on once a day and keep adding and removing things. The list is full of things that we only get at Christmas like smoked salmon, salted peanuts, fancy flavoured cheese, Baileys thick pouring cream, fancy pork pies and snacky food. I took all the veg off the list as I am getting it all from the farm shop, their veg is way better than supermarket veg. It might cost more but it's Christmas and it's good to support small businesses!
All the wrapping is done, even the girls got theirs done early on in the week. That was funny to watch. We discovered Ellie is like me when it comes to wrapping, it is a chore and is there to be complained about the whole time you are doing it. hehehe The last present I sent was received and we dropped the presents off with family yesterday, well most of them. My dad and his partner still have a bag of presents here but I am planning on seeing him on his birthday in a couple of days to give him them then. There was just too much to carry everything yesterday. I may have got a bit carried away buying things for my brother and his family.
Poor Becky is not ready for Christmas because she won't get to celebrate like the rest of us as she is working Christmas Eve, Day and Boxing day too. She works in care and someone has to do it so we're going to make the most of the time she has at home. We will have to be out of bed ready to open presents on Christmas day when she gets in from work so she can rush off to sleep so she can get up a bit earlier on the evening to spend some time with us.
Ellie has finished college for the year and she is ready for the break. She has been struggling to get up each morning, the dark and all of the rain hasn't helped. She slept in on Monday but made it for the bus but it was a bit of a rush, I slept in on Tuesday, when I woke up at 8am I thought it was still night time as it was so dark. I hate this time of year, especially for my family. When Becky is at work she never see's daylight with sleeping during the day as she works night shifts and poor Stu leaves the house when it's still dark, is in an office with no windows all day so doesn't see daylight and comes home in the dark too. It's the shortest day tomorrow so at least from now on it will start to get a little lighter each day.
How has your week been? I hope you have had a good week and I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!! I am of course linking up with Anne who blogs at Raisie Bay to join in with her Word of the Week linky!

I´m glad that you´re ready for Christmas! I am getting there but definitely not 100% yet. I do have a few days and nothing huge on the calendar until Christmas Eve so I should be ok :). This time of year is tough for those who don´t work traditional daytime office time jobs but rather nights, weekends, holidays, too, etc. Good for her for making a difference but yeah, she and you guys really feel the sacrifice this time of year. I hope the season is meaningful for her and that she gets plenty of rest but also lots of enjoyment.
ReplyDeleteOh that's so hard to work in healthcare on holidays! One of my nurse daughters works Christmas Eve this year...a 12 hour shift. One year we celebrated Thanksgiving the next day because the oldest worked. I know what you mean about the darkness, it's kind of suffocating. I start to just crave the feeling of warm sun on my skin...it feels like summer was forever ago. (I laughed when you said Ellie sees wrapping as a chore and therefore complains her way through, too funny!).
ReplyDeleteThe weather can really mess things up along with the darkness of winter. Hopefully everyone will enjoy Christmas.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame Becky has to work, but I hope she will feel the job she is doing is rewarding, spending a bit of time with people who need it.
ReplyDeleteThe lack of light is annoying, I feel the same. I look at the watch at 8 and think it's 10 and we should go to sleep. Hahha
It's a great feeling when everything is sorted for Christmas isn't it. You can relax now and enjoy the time.
ReplyDeleteVeggies are always so much nicer from the farm shop, supermarket veg isn't great quality anymore. We have started getting our meat from a butcher as the quality in stores is pretty poor and very expensive.
Poor Becky, I hope she gets some time off after Christmas to enjoy.
I love winter time but not these very dark mornings and nights with little daylight in between.
Wishing you a very lovely Christmas x
Merry Christmas, Kim! Hope you all have a wonderful time and Becky has time to enjoy it too. I know what you mean about the light. I'm looking forward to the increase in daylight, but I do love the cosy evenings. Also with you on the farm shop veg. It's not chilled and tasteless like the supermarket's offerings, as hard as they try. It is a good feeling when you wrap that final present. This year is the first year I can say I'm ready.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same with the shopping delivery, this week I made my last tweek at 10.50pm on the night before. I still made mistakes though! Poor Becky having to work Christmas. That was one of the reasons I gave up working in care, because I hated the Christmas work. I did have my two young children at home though, and it was different back then. Wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and thank you for linking up to word of the week
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're already for Christmas. I used to work all over Christmas pre children so I could have the New Year off. I'd happily work it again now. If we haven't got everything then hey ho, shop will be open within 48 hours. Have a Merry Christmas #wotw
ReplyDeleteSnap! So nice to be feeling ready for Christmas. Our online food shop is being delivered later today. I like all the special food that you only get at Christmas. It feels like such a treat! That’s tough for Becky working all over Christmas. Sounds like you have a good plan for her to be able to enjoy some of it. The dark mornings are not fun this time of year. Thank goodness it’s going to start getting lighter again now. Hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas x
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to be prepared for Christmas with time to spare! That's too bad that Becky had to work on Christmas Eve, Day, and Boxing Day, but it's admirable that so many do sacrifice their holidays to care for others. I hope y'all had the very best time! I'm finally starting to get caught up on my blog reading and I can't wait to follow along!
