1 in 7 children are going without breakfast

According to the website Netmums 1 in 7 children are going without breakfast....

"For many families, skipping the most important meal of the day isn’t a choice, it’s a necessity. One of the main reasons that lots of kids are starting the day on an empty tummy is sadly due to the increasing number of families in this country who live in food poverty"

WHAT?

I just can't understand this....How do they know this? Where does the research come from

I've just done my sums....

ASDA Smart Price Cornflakes! 750g - 46p
4 Pints of Milk! - £1
ASDA Smart Price Strawberry Jam - 29p
ASDA Smart Price White or Brown loaf - 47p
ASDA Bananas - £1

Which comes to £3.22 there is more there for a weeks worth of breakfasts but gives some variety!

For every view of the video on Netmums, share on facebook or tweet on twitter Kellogg’s will donate a breakfast to a child in need

Why should other people have to take responsibility for making sure these children are fed surely that is the parents role....

I don't believe for one second that 1 in 7 families can't afford a loaf of bread and a pot of jam.....Yes kids can be fussy at breakfast time and they sometimes do not want to eat....but them not being given/offered breakfast is just simple neglect!!

I wonder how many of these homes claiming poverty have a Sky contract, mobile phone contract, lovely homes, drink and smoke?

Things like this annoy me.....

My girls get breakfast every morning! Obviously!....Toast or cereal they don't always eat it...So when time runs out and we have to leave the house they have a breakfast bar or fruit on the walk to school...

I think it is a cheap bit of advertising from Kellogg's roping in Netmums too.....to show themselves as a caring family company who care more about children than profits....No I don't think so!!! If Kellogg's are so bothered they should donate their cereals to food banks...I think the whole thing is just a marketing ploy and it annoys me!!....

Sofia the First Soundtrack - Review

It's no surprise that we are huge fan's of Disney....Becky loves The Disney Channel & Ellie loves Disney Junior...

Ellie has a couple of favourite shows at the moment Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First...

When Sofia’s mum marries the king, she’s whisked off to the castle, where she learns what it means to be a real princess. Sofia discovers empowering lessons about kindness, forgiveness, generosity, and self-respect. Classic Princesses, make special appearances to lend their words of wisdom to Sofia. Through this journey, Sofia discovers that looking like a princess isn’t all that hard, but behaving like one must come from the heart.

We were lucky enough to be sent the Sofia the First Soundtrack to review and when I first showed Ellie her first reaction was to scream Sooooofffffiiiiiaaa theeee fiiiirrrrssst!! To say she was excited was an understatement!! I wished I'd caught her reaction on camera...

4. Make Some Noise – The Trolls and Sofia

This is a lovely CD....Some of the songs are just so cute....The songs are much easier to listen to as an adult than some of the other children's tunes....They are not annoying in the slightest....

Ellie loves it!! She sings and dances and as listened to it about 20 times already in a few days....She recognised quite a few of the songs from the TV series and since listening to it over and over she knows just about every song....

If you have a child in your life who loves Sofia the First, this CD is a great gift!!

I was sent a copy of the Sofia the First Soundtrack free of charge for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My baby girls birthday....

I really can't believe my little girl is 6 today!!

It does not seem like 6 and a bit years since she was just a scan picture!!

These last 6 years have flown over....

One picture for each year she's been with us!!

We always remember her first steps...On the 31st of October 2008....Halloween!!

She started nursery only five days after her 3rd Birthday!! In my opinion she was far too young but she took to it really well...

She has done so well at school.....

She has gone from being such a tomboy to loving everything Princess related and pink!

It's quite scary how fast she is growing up....But she is and I'm so proud of her....

Happy Birthday to my little chicken!!

Advice From A Tree..

I saw this and loved it and just had to share....

Advice From A Tree..

Stand tall and proud
Sink your roots deeply into the earth
Reflect the light of your true nature
Think long term
Go out on a limb
Remember your place among all living beings
Embrace with joy the changing seasons
For each yields its own abundance
The energy and birth of spring
The growth and contentment of summer
The wisdom to let go the leaves in the fall
The rest and quiet renewal of winter

Feel the wind and the sun
And delight in their presence
Look up at the moon that shines down upon you
And the mystery of the stars at night
Seek nourishment from the good things in life
Simple pleasures
Earth, fresh air, light
Be content with your natural beauty
Drink plenty of water
Let your limbs sway and dance in the breezes
Be flexible
Remember your roots
Enjoy the view!

Fantasy Dinner Party.....

I've often thought about the age old question....If you were to hold a dinner party and could invite any famous/historical figures dead or alive who would be you're guests....

I've narrowed it down to 6 people.....I've picked people who I like and I think would be great guests!!

Jimmy Carr....

I think Jimmy Carr is hilarious!
He has the ability to make me laugh and then recoil in disgust in the same joke....He's so offensive and to be honest just says sometimes what we're just thinking!! I think at a dinner party he would be a fun guest....Make me laugh and cause controversy at the same time...

Karl Pilkington....

That guy off the tv show An idiot abroad...My fella says I'm a female version of him! Never getting really excited about anything....He saw the Great Wall of China and said It’s not a Great Wall. It’s an alright wall. It’s the Alright Wall of China.....I can so relate to him....hehehe

Freddie Mercury....

The party needs music and it was hard choice to make between Freddie Mercury & Jon Bon Jovi but Freddie won this time....I've always found Freddie so interesting and fascinating....He is such a legend in the music industry and maybe he could sing a few of Queens songs....

Mick Foley....

The WWE (Wrestling) Hardcore Legend...I've read all his books, seen the dvds and he seems a genuine, nice, lovable, teddy-bear of a man...The stories he could tell would keep me amused for hours....

Sharon Osbourne

Ahhh Got to have a woman as a guest and what a woman she is!! She says what she thinks, she so loyal to her family and has been through so much eg, cancer, almost being killed by husband, kids in rehab etc....When I'm 60 I want to be just like her.....

Gordon Ramsay

Someone has to cook and tell every one to eff off at the end of the night Gordon 'effing' Ramsay would be perfect for this....At least no one would dare complain about the food....hehehe

So who would be your fantasy dinner party guests?

Doc Mcstuffins: The Doc Is In...Soundtrack - Review

Doc McStuffins is all about a six-year-old girl named Dottie McStuffins who, one day, wants to become a doctor like her mother. As a kid, she "pretends" to be a doctor by fixing up toys and dolls (because of this, everyone calls her 'Doc'). When she puts on her stethoscope, toys, dolls, and stuffed animals magically come to life and she can communicate with them. With a little help from her stuffed animal friends, Stuffy, Hallie, Lambie and Chilly, Doc helps toys "feel better" by giving them check-ups and checking their illnesses with "The Big Book of Boo Boos"

In our house we love it....Ellie especially so when we were given the chance to review the CD how could I say no!!

On the CD there are 26 songs which does seem a lot but each song is under a minute long so they are so easy to learn that is if your child doesn't already know them already from the tv show.....I knew quite a few and Ellie knew even more!! The songs are short enough to keep Ellie's attention and the perfect length for good sing-along....

Track Listings....

1. Doc McStuffins Theme Song
2. Time for Your Check Up
3. Everyone Gets Hurt Sometimes”
4. I Feel Better
5. A Lambie Like You
6. Nobody Wants a Broken Toy
7. Wash Your Hands
8. Do What the Doctor Says
9. When You Need a Friend
10. Made in the Shade
11. Water Water
12. Eat Good Food
13. Take Care
14. You’re Gonna Grow
15. Because You’re You
16. Loud Loud Louie
17. Bop, Bop, Bop
18. Look Great in Glasses
19. Be Good to Your Tummy
20. Let’s Play Outside
21. Brush Your Teeth
22. Get Your Sleep On
23. Dinosaur Stomp
24. Stars Stars
25. Everybody in the Pool
26. Close Your Eyes

Docs songs are so clever and are so fun to listen to....I find myself humming/singing them all the time!.....

"The Doc is in and She'll fix you up.
If your a toy then your in luck.
It's ok don't be afraid the Doc really knows her stuff.
Doo Doo Doo you know it's good for you
The doc is gonna help you feel better"

I would recommend this for any little Doc McStuffins fan!!!

Ohh and did you know Doc McStuffins Theme Song,” performed by the star of Disney Channel's hit series A.N.T. Farm China Anne McClain....There's a useless fact for you....lol

I was sent a copy of  "Doc Mcstuffins: The Doc Is In" free of charge for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Whoa! Flashback!

I was writing and scheduling a couple of blog posts for when it's Becky and Ellie's birthdays in the next few weeks.....

I ended up noticing I didn't have many of photos of Becky on my computer they were all in photo albums so got them out and was having a good look through as well as finding some great pics of Becky I found some fantastic ones of myself....I thought I would share a few with you and the story behind some of them!!

Number 1 - Me as a baby....Hours after I was born!!

Number 2 - My second Christmas (I think)...I do sort of remember it....I remember the red trampoline full of presents!!

Number 3 - Ahh the paddling pool....I don't think I ever wore clothes in that one and as you can see I wouldn't get out of it even to eat!

Number 4 - Me in another one of my toys! The tunnel....I had hours of fun in it! Ahh the simple things!

Number 5 - My first steps!! I remember the story about this....My Aunty was there and I wouldn't walk as soon as she left I was up and about....hehehe

Number 6 - The day my little brother came home from hospital when he was born and me being the loving sister I am giving him a cuddle....

Number 7 - I loved that rocking horse...lol

Number 8 - My great Aunty Jean....She really is great....hehehe She's never changed in the last 30 or so years....She's 80 years old now and still looks the same! Love her to bits!! She was holding my brother and I....

Number 9 - My first pony Scampi! He was a little swine....lol As soon as I was set off to ride myself he would leg it to the nearest tree and find the perfect branch that he could just to say get under which would knock me off...lol I also must tell about my second pony....My dad rescued her from being slaughtered just because the owner couldn't afford to keep her....I remember him talking to this man and being told he had an hour to get back....My dad rushed back to get the horsebox only for it to have a flat tyre....He went and borrowed one from someone else...We made it back to rescue her in the nick of time....She used to be best friends with Scampi....I used to think it was because we had called her Chips!! True Story!

Number 10 - My first school photo with my brother!! He had started nursery which means I would of been about 5 or 6 years old....

Ahhh the memories!!

Help your child get ready for school....

Starting school is a big milestone for both your child and you...

There are many things you can do to help your child get ready for school but most don’t involve anything particularly academic...It's mainly just simple life skills!

Make sure your child knows how to go to the toilet and the importance of washing their hands afterwards!!

Get your child to practice taking off and putting on there coat...If they can do it fast they'll have more time to play outside with there new friends.....Forget fiddly fastening and hard-to-do-up zips....Pick a coat that's a doddle to do up for little fingers.Same goes for PE. Easy slip on sand shoes and elasticated waistbands do away with problems with laces, buttons and zips!!

For school dinners make sure your child can use a knife and fork....If they have packed lunches check that your child can open her lunch box and that she knows how to peel a banana and take the lid off a yoghurt pot...

It really helps if your child can recognise their own name....It'll help them find their peg and drawer but to start with probably have a little identifying picture of an object, like a frog or a doll near their name to help them. They may even have a photo of themselves!

A pet hate of some teachers is snotty noses! Make sure your child can wipe their nose with a tissue or hanky!!

Your child needs to realise that at school it's not all about them...Which is a pretty hard lesson for some children to learn if they have had years of individual attention at home! They need to know how to share, that they can't hit other children or throw tantrums!!

Good luck to all the little one's starting school!!

The cost of going back to school...

John Lewis have released a statement saying that the addition of ereaders and smartphones to the playground have made the cost of going back to school soar.

The cost of modern gadgets combined with school uniforms, stationery, a lunchbox and a new bag leave the cost of returning to school at an average of a massive £550.80. In today’s money, that would compare with £252.50 in the 80s and £231.20 in the 60s.

Madness!!! Who are these insane people who spend that much?

Considering most schools ban electrical items such as e-readers, phones and things like that being taken into school why you would be buying it as part of school uniform?....They're talking a load of rubbish!!

This year the back to school shop has cost me about £98 for my girls.....

6 Pairs of Girls School Jersey Trousers - £24
School Easy Iron Short Sleeve Shirts - 2 Pack - £5.00
V-neck jumper with school logo - £9.00
School tie - £5
2 Coats - £32
2 Pairs of shoes - £18
2 Pairs of  Plimsolls - £5

We have got off pretty cheaply this time....The girls have school bags with the school logo on with lots of wear left and Ellie has plenty of jumpers which Becky has grown out of....Lunch boxes are not needed as they have school lunches and stationary is not needed as the school prefers the children to use there stationary....

I can understand it getting more expensive when kids hit secondary school as they can be very specific about uniform with blazers, stationary and specialist PE kits but still can't imagine it costing £550.80!!

I wouldn't even consider buying them anything electronic for school....We are lucky when the children get to Year 4 in my girls school they get their own little laptop to bring home each night to use....Maybe that's why I'm not spending so much on them going back to school....lol

My girls make me laugh! #Funee

My girls are always making me laugh...So I thought I would link up with Actually Mummy & her Wot So Funee? Blog hop and share what my two girls have being coming out with....

Ellie has really got into watching the tv channel Tiny Pop on Sky....They have a new show called Joe & Jack which she really likes....Anyway she had seen about 10 minutes of Big Brother during the day when it was repeated and is now convinced Jack and Joe the twins off BB have been made into a cartoon......

Oh and I have been told I have to go to bed at 10pm every night so I'm not watching TV downstairs so she can record Blues Clues and the Rugrats....lol And while I'm on about Sky TV.....If I see a reminder once more for The Care Bears of Sofia the first or a viewing clash because she's trying to record two things when I'm watching the tv....I'm going to hide the remote....lol

Becky decided that she wants to be a nurse when she's older....She is obsessed with watching medical shows at the moment...Hospital Sydney, Baby ER, Nurses on CH5...All the reality hospital shows she can find....Well she wants to be a nurse as long as she doesn't have to clean up vomit.....She said her own sick is ok because she knows what she eats so knows what's in her vomit (not that she's sick very often)...What happens if someone has eaten something really smelly and that makes me sick....I'd just look silly then....She says....lol She doesn't want to see blood either....I said that's what nurses have to deal with....Ok I'll just be a teacher then!

Do you want peas with you're tea Ellie - Yes peas!

When the kids broke up from school I said to them bring you're dirty uniforms downstairs to wash.....Yes mam they said and brought some down.....So how is it I'm still washing uniforms 4 weeks into the holidays?? Because Ellie wanted to keep her trousers upstairs so teddy can wear them when he starts school in September because he is 4 now...

Having tomato soup with sausage rolls to dip in for lunch one day....Becky asks for tomato sauce on it!!....She loves her tomato sauce but that's taking it too far! The answer was No!! lol

I've had bright red hair for the last few weeks and decided I wanted a change so dyed it a Mahogany colour....According to Becky I'm boring now and look to much like a mum....hmmm I am a mum!! Oh and I looked special with bright red hair....Is that a good thing?....lol

Ellie needed to get plastered yesterday!! She caught her toe nail on Sunday and obviously it's sore so she wanted another plaster on....Came running to me saying I needed to get her toe plastered.....hahaha

Wot So Funee?

How Did We Survive?!

Looking back, it's hard to believe that we've lived this long.....
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us....They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a tin, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

As children we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes we had no helmets.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cakes, white bread and real butter and drank pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We played with toy guns, cowboys and Indians, army, cops robbers, and used our fingers to simulate guns when the toy ones or the BB gun was not available.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no text messaging, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents ..

We played with worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out any eyes.

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pool....

I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.

I think we're going to try the Bedtime step-by-step routine  with Ellie....She's never been the best for going to bed....This might help her along a bit....She loves Dora the Explorer so it might be worth a try!!

On Facebook parents will be able to swap their own tips for the chance to win a Dora Step-by-Step pack consisting of a Dora-the-Explorer My Talking Backpack and a School Day Dora doll....

Summer-born children......

Summer-born children are at a serious disadvantage in the majority of England's primary schools, a major study has found.

My youngest Ellie is a summer baby....She was born on the 29th of August....The youngest in her school year....If she was born a couple of days later and she would just of been going into Year 1 in September instead of Year 2!

When she first started nursery she had only just turned three....There were children who were already four in the same year group as her and were a lot more advanced then Ellie...We thought we would have problems (she did at first) but as her schooling has gone on she has slowly caught up with the others in her year....Now there is no difference.... I'm not just saying this but she is brighter then some of the children who are nearly a year older then her...

My eldest Becky is the oldest in her year.....She was born on the 10th of September......She is nearly a year older then some of the children in her class but this does not mean she's the cleverest....She is clever but there are kids who ae better at certain subjects....

I think it is the child not the birthday that makes the difference. It depends on things like the child's personality and upbringing....It may make a difference in the early years but soon levels out when children get older....

One Pack = One Lesson

Do you shop at Tesco? Do you buy any Always products?
Did you know every time you buy a UNESCO marked Always pack, Always will donate a lesson to a girl in Senegal.

Always and UNESCO have joined forces to empower thousands more young women in Senegal through education. With less than half (44%) of Senegalese girls being literate Always started their partnership with UNESCO two years ago in France. But now they’re rolling it out to other countries in Europe – including the UK.

In the UK, Always and UNESCO plan to donate more than seven million lessons to support girls education. Thanks to this life-changing initiative, around 3,000 women have already improved their literacy and numeracy skills through traditional and online classes. It’s been so successful that another 3,000 desperately want to enrol too.
If you want to help invest in a better future for women around the world you can and it won't cost you anything extra!!

For each UNESCO-marked pack purchased, Always will donate £0.03 and while that may not sound like a lot to us with the combination of traditional classes and education via new technologies it’s enough to fund one 45 to 60 minutes lesson....

I am posting this as part of a BzzAgent campaign.....I have been provided with samples of Always Pads and Pantyliners.

Beanies Flavoured Coffee - Review!

I do love a good cup of Coffee so when I was asked if I would like to try some new flavoured coffee how could I say no....I had never really tried flavoured coffee so didn't really know what to expect!!

Beanies use advanced flavouring systems to mix high quality roast coffee and fantastic natural flavours. They have 36 flavours so there is sure to be something to suit every taste! Even better there's less than 2 calories per serving so a nice low cal treat!

The favourite flavours are....

Amaretto Flavour
Cinnamon & Hazelnut Flavour
French Vanilla Flavour
Irish Cream Flavour
Rich Hazelnut Flavour
Chocolate Flavour
Creamy Caramel Flavour

I was l lucky enough to be sent two jars.....Amaretto Flavour and Irish Cream Flavour both which are £2.75 each!

Being a huge fan of the alcoholic drink Baileys I couldn't wait to try the Irish Cream one.....There's no faffing about just simply make the coffee as you would any other coffee.....I sat for about 5 minutes just smelling it....It smells divine!!

The taste was delicious....A lot better then I expected it to be...It was so easy to drink and left no yucky after taste!!

I'm usually not a fan of Amaretto but thought I would give it a try for the purpose of the review and I was impressed! I liked it....Not something I would drink everyday but that's just down to my personal taste....

I am very impressed!! These make a lovely change from normal coffee....I will be buying more!!

When September comes and my friends and I have our coffee on a Friday morning while the kids are at school I will be taking some for them to sample....They're in for a treat!!

I was sent 2 tubs of Beanies flavoured coffee free of charge.... This is my honest review....All thoughts and opinions are my own!!

It's my fellas birthday this week so we'll have to do something special for that....Probably a meal out....

This week we're having....
