This week my Word of the Week is: Autumnal!! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Autumnal

September has arrived and it is definitely starting to feel a little autumnal around here with the cooler weather which I am quite enjoying. I do love summer and always feel a little sad when it starts to get darker earlier and the sun is shining less but I am also excited for Autumn. The kids have all gone back to school and college around here. I was in town the day the college went back and it was so cute hearing all the new starters chatting about their timetables and how different it is from school. Bless them!

Ellie had her birthday last weekend, which I wrote about in my Friday Favourites post and during the week we went out shopping to pick a few extra things up for Becky. She wanted all the sensible things like socks, some jeans and new slippers. It's all practical things that she would have bought herself but now I've saved her the money. Birthdays definitely change as the kids get older. When they were little, there was always so much excitement, presents, birthday cake and all the things that go with them. Now it's more about spending time together, getting them things they actually want and making sure they have a nice day!

Stu went back to work after his week off and he said the week has really dragged on. He did not want to get up when his alarm went off and hit snooze a couple of times, which was very annoying for me, who didn't have to be up that early. Becky, on the other hand, has been loving life and has this and most of the next week off for her birthday. She went for a trip to the beach. It wasn't the warmest of days and everything seemed to have shut for the season, another sign that summer is almost over but she still had fun and brought me some candy floss back. hehehe

I had my first pumpkin spice drink of the year from Starbucks this week and it was perfect! I did think about getting one from Greggs but wanted my first one of the season to be done properly, so Starbucks it was. I chose a pumpkin spice Frappuccino instead of a hot drink as it was still quite warm outside. Give it a few weeks when it has got colder and I will move on to the pumpkin spice lattes. hehehe Some people think pumpkin spice season starts far too early but I don't care. If it's on the menu, I'm having one! I also got one of the Greggs Bonfire Toffee Muffin! It is a toffee flavoured muffin with toffee pieces and a burnt toffee-flavoured filling, topped with a chocolate and salted caramel flavoured icing and toffee butter crunch. It was very sweet but very nice!

In other news, I did something this week that I've been meaning to do for a long while. I applied for my provisional driving licence. Before anybody thinks this means I'm about to start learning to drive, it doesn't. I'm not saying I am booking lessons now but it is something I am thinking about. Getting my provisional licence is the first step in the right direction, it's a baby step and if nothing else, at least I will have some proper photo ID.

How has your week been? I hope you have had a good one! I am of course linking up with Anne who blogs at Raisie Bay to join in with her Word of the Week linky!

  1. Oh that toffee muffins sounds delicious! I don't drink any of the pumpkin spice drinks but I have already enjoyed some pumpkin spice bagels. I too love the pumpkin spice flavors.

  3. We are having a heat wave at the moment so the thought of fall is a long way off to me. My hubby alarm wakes me up at 4:00 am every morning too, followed by hungry cats jumping in my bed, so I know your pain!

  4. That muffin sounds amazing! I know the feeling of the alarm being put on snooze. My hubby used to do that too. :( Now he's retired, so no alarm!

  5. I'm not a pumpkin anything lover, but your muffin sounds good! I seems you had a good week... you ALL had a good week! Congrats on the learner's permit (what we call them here). I can't imagine not having a car to go when and where I want to go. Our public transportation isn''t as good as yours there. It works here, but bus stops are spotty. Keep us posted on your progress!! Go for it!! xo

  6. All my life I have never been a fan of summer, but since getting sick I find that the warm weather helps so much with my pain. I'm missing it already. I love the sound of the toffee muffin and I like pumpkin spiced drinks too. I might see if they have some at the coffee shop at the hospital next week. I didn't learn to drive until I was 30 and it was the best thing I ever did. Good luck, even if you don't start straight away. My aunt was 60 when she learnt to drive!

  7. I love a pumpkin spice frappucino. I've been having mine made with almond milk and it makes it less sweet. I've had 2 so far, but wanted to use my points the other day for a nice drink and some lunch, only to find the tiny Starbucks car park was full, other than the 1 disabled space, and 6 electric car charging spaces. They made such a tiny car park, think there's only 8 standard spaces anyway. And they had an empty coffee shop too compared to how busy the car park was. So I wasn't happy I had to go elsewhere and pay.

  8. We are heading into Spring and we can also definitely feel it. It is warming up, trees and plants all have shoots on. HA! I have a drivers license but it got stolen so I am off today to start the process of getting it reissued - hoping it is quick 🤞 Good luck with your process.

  10. Is pumpkin everything as big in the UK as it is in the States? It is wild here haha! Great job on taking the first step towards your license- sometimes we just need to take baby steps and then we look back and realize we have accomplished so much!

  11. Autumn certainly seems to be here, I am loving the much cooler weather although we will probably get one more week of sunshine befor the end of September I imagine.
Going back to work after time off always feels rubbish, Chris struggkes to get up when he's been off too.
I have never had a pumpkin spiced hot drink which is funny as I love pumpkin flavour. I must get myself one this year. I saw some Starbucks instant sachets in Tesco so I might try those first to make sure I like them before I spend a fortune.
Good on you for getting your provisional, it will be there when and if you ever feel like learning.
