This week my Word of the Week is:
I hope you have all had a great week. I've had a good one but I feel like I don't have much to write about as not much has been happening here but I am sure once I start writing a post will come together.
The biggest news from this week is that England are out of the World Cup. Hmmf. I am gutted that they lost against Argentina. It seemed as soon as they went a goal up they panicked and played too defensively. Instead of continuing to play and making Argentina worry about them, England started focusing more and more on stopping Argentina scoring, which did not work. Oh well, we have one more match today against France to see who comes in 3rd place, which seems like the most pointless match ever. I'll still watch it though because it's football and I can't help myself.
This week we found out that Ellie could have another year at college if she wanted. She gets another year funded because she doesn't turn 19 until the end of August and the cut-off date is the 31st. It was quite a surprise because we'd just assumed that it was done with. She would love to do another year because lots of her friends will still be at college but that's the only reason. She's now reached the point where she feels like she's closed that chapter of her life and is ready to move on to whatever comes next. She has an interview next week for a little something, so we're keeping everything crossed that it goes well.
On Monday we went into town for a little mooch around the shops. We didn't really need anything so there was a lot of window shopping. We ended up stopping for lunch at the all-you-can-eat place because it's only £9 something at lunchtime on a Monday, which is such a bargain. I didn't eat another proper meal all day and just had a cup of tea and a couple of biscuits later in the evening. I definitely got my money's worth.
I've just started watching Elle on Prime. It's a prequel to Legally Blonde and I'm really enjoying it so far. Now that the football has finished, I can get back to my watch list and I have so much on it since I haven't watched anything apart from football for the last month. I want to watch Little House on the Prairie, I Will Find You, The Five Star Weekend, Ride or Die, Off Campus and Dutton Ranch. I don't know when I'll fit them all in.
A hosepipe ban came in at the start of the week and watering the garden has become a bit of a chore. Filling watering cans over and over again isn't nearly as easy as standing there with the hose. The plants are definitely worth the effort though. I remember at the start of the year when it seemed to rain every single day for weeks. I complained constantly about it. Well, I take it all back now. A little bit of rain would actually be quite welcome.

That's cool you get your college paid for, that's unheard of in the states. Sorry your team lost.

ReplyDeleteKeep us posted on what Ellie decides to do! She will make the right decision for her, I'm sure. I was cheering for England and was bummed when they lost. I'm not a soccer fan (didn't grow up with it back in the day) but I was in the corner with England. I always enjoy visiting with you here, Kim! Have a good weekend! xo
ReplyDeleteI was sorry to see England lost. Wasn't that the game that they were up one goal until the 80th minute or so? That had to have been so awful for fans and the team. Doe students graduate with a degree or does it matter more how many years they were at college? Like would it help her get a job if she had another year of college? Elle sounds like a cute show! ReplyDeleteYep, it was around the 85th minute when Argentina equalised and then got another in extra time.
DeleteNo degree. Here it's school until they are 16, college until 18 or 19 for further education and then university where they can get degrees. Ellie had an electrical engineering and a mechanical engineering qualification which are helping her apply for jobs, another year at college wouldn't make that much of a difference.
Well, good for Ellie knowing what she wants! I hope the interview goes well! I actually have to water most of my plants (well, not currently me, hubby is doing it) with a water can because a hose doesn't reach my porch area or my patio area. It is weird. Bad design. It is funny how we don't want rain when it rains a lot then we want it when we really need it and it refuses. :)
ReplyDeleteThe not having to pay for college at 19 is a great scheme and Boo would have been eligible had she stayed at college, but because she didn't she now has to pay for her course in September and it's not cheap. She doesn't have an income so she's been given a student loan to pay back later. I wish her luck in her interview, it's good she knows what she wants to do. I watched the England match against Argentina and it was soul destroying, the first half was just Argentina being bullies, then the second half was England just trying to defend. The match against France was more exciting. And the final last night showed just how you beat the Argentinians, well done Spain. The show at half time was weird, but very American. I watched I Will Find You, it's really good x

ReplyDeleteGood luck to Ellie for her interview. Nice to do some window shopping and the all-you-can-eat place sounds good. We have a hosepipe ban now too which is annoying with the start of the summer holidays as we can’t get the paddling pool out anymore. It’s a pain having to use watering cans to water the garden too. We definitely need some rain! #project365
