Week 50 of #Project366 - A photo every day for a year!

We have had quite a week with lots of ups and downs but writing this yesterday I feel pretty happy and positive. I think it's because I have a good chunk of the Christmas food shopping done. All the presents are bought and of course I still have wrapping to do but there's plenty of time for that.

Now for a photo every day!

Pizza and chips & my living room in the dark.
Organising Christmas presents & a chip butty
My Iceland order confirmation & chicken and veg in the slow cooker.
Christmas snacks and drinks

333/366 - 5th December
We got a takeaway. Pizza platters all round. Half a pizza, chips, onion rings and coleslaw for £8. We got an extra portion of Doner meat to share.

334/366 - 6th December
I sat in the living room waiting for someone to pass through and switch the light on. Sundays really are my lazy day.

335/366 - 7th December
Another day of sorting out Christmas presents.

336/366 - 8th December
Becky had said she was making herself a chip butty for herself. It didn't take long for me to want one. She is a bad influence.

337/366 - 9th December
I made an order with Iceland for all the frozen Christmas food. Just about everything was delivered. The only subs were bread. I had obviously placed an order before the shop had their bread delivery.

338/366 - 10th December
I added veg and chicken in the slow cooker with a random casserole mix out of the cupboard. Stu called to the shop and got a loaf of crusty bread to dip in. It was delicious.

339/366 - 11th December
I had another shopping delivery this time with the drinks, tinned stuff, snacky food, cakes and biscuits.

This week my Word of the Week is: Ups and Downs. #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Ups and Downs

It's more a phrase this week than a word. The first half of the week was rubbish but as it's gone on it has got better. It should have really been downs and ups but that didn't sound right. Oh well.

On Saturday we heard the devastating news that a family friend had passed away from Coronavirus. My heart is breaking for her daughter, Ellie's best friend. We are all shocked so I can't imagine how Ellie's friend is feeling. Ellie was of course upset but we've talked lots about it during the week and she's OK. There has been a lot of cuddles and family time.

Hearing the news about our friend scared me. I have felt like not leaving the house. Stu and I were supposed to be going into town on Monday but I said no, what is the point of sitting on a bus with a bunch of strangers for 20 minutes there and 20 minutes back, putting ourselves at risk just for a few extra Christmas presents.

I only really needed some pj's for us all, a jumper for my dad, a few boxes of biscuits and a few selection boxes which I've managed to get online this week. I've probably paid a bit more than I would have in town but I feel like I've kept us safe and didn't have to pay the bus fare so money wise have probably broke even. I actually got us some matching pj's for Christmas eve from George at Asda, online. The Keeping it Merry Slogan Check Christmas Pyjamas. I ordered my dad a jumper from there too.

The selection boxes & biscuits came with the shopping from Iceland on Thursday along with all the frozen stuff for Christmas including the meat for the dinner and party food. After getting the frozen food shop delivered yesterday I got a bit carried away with being organised and I have another shop coming today, this time from Morrisons with all the drinks, tinned, jarred and cupboard stuff. We're at the point in the year now where I am telling the kids not to eat or drink anything without asking me first. Hopefully by 10am today I will have a cupboard full of crisps, Christmas cake and pudding, lots of fizzy pop and two kids who are begging to eat all the treats. hehehe

Becky has spent the week at home, no college for her as she is self isolating. Someone in the health and social care/childcare department tested positive for Coronavirus. From what Becky has found out it isn't anyone that she's spent time with in class but they're giving the whole department a big clean and have said there will be no more "in college" lessons this year, it will all be home learning. She's fine with that but is gutted that on the last day she won't be getting cake off her teacher and to see her friends but the sensible side of her has realised that staying home from college is reducing the risk of her or us catching Coronavirus.

Stu is back into the swing of going to work. His hours have changed again. He's starting earlier in the day and finishing earlier, before it gets dark so at least I don't have to worry about him cycling home on the busy road when it's pitch black outside.

I have spent the week not doing much at all apart from complaining about the cold, entering lots of online competitions, none of which I've won and watching shows on Netflix. Emily in Paris was brilliant and I can't wait for another series and The Good Place which was not what I expected when I started watching it. It was hilarious and the I didn't see all the twists coming. I did cry most of the way through the last episode but it was worth it!

How has your week been?

The top things we forget every Christmas!

There is a lot to think about when organising Christmas. Every year in the run up to the big day there is always things that I forget to buy or things that I forget to do, they're the simple things which are obvious but always slip my mind. I am sure I am not alone.

A Christmas present and a shopping trolley.

This year don't forget:

To buy the batteries!
You can guarantee that if I remember to buy the batteries I will forget about that random toy which needs the really big batteries or smallest ones and I will forget them.

To buy the sellotape!
I am organised and usually have all the wrapping done well before Christmas. hehehe I do however have to have a couple of shopping trips to remember to buy the wrapping paper in the first place.

The tinfoil for the turkey!
Yep! I have forgotten this plenty of times!

To fill the ice cube trays!
I used to be really bad at this especially with the freezer full of frozen food to eat over Christmas. There was little room for ice cube trays but last year I reviewed a handy little gadget the Icebreaker Pop where you fill the bottle like container with water, freeze it and then pull it apart and the ice cubes are made. No need to worry about spillages.

The napkins for the dinner table!
I buy them every year, just paper one's but always forget to put them out on the table.

Wrapping paper for last minute gifts!
I always overbuy wrapping paper. I would rather have too much than not enough. I have in the past had to wrap presents for my nephew in pink paper that he wasn't too impressed with. (He was about 7 or 8 at the time. lol)

The Christmas crackers!
I don't think I would be forgiven if I ever forgot the Christmas crackers. I have come close before and we've had to make do with really nasty one's. I've learned my lesson.

Buy presents for random people!
Ahh! I always buy a couple of extra presents, a bath set of smellies, a box of chocolates and some selection boxes, just in case. There is always someone who decides to drop a present off which I'm not expecting.

The gravy!
Never! Gravy is one thing we never run out of in this house.

To leave a mince pie out for Father Christmas!
My girls still do this now and it's something we never forget.

To buy the turkey trimmings - cranberry, apple, mint, bread sauce!
I have had to send Stu out on Christmas eve to get random things for the Christmas dinner. It wouldn't be the same without them.

To buy/put on the Christmas jumper!
I always used to forget to get the kids a Christmas jumper for Christmas jumper day at school but one year we were sent a couple to review and they lasted a good few years. Even when Becky had grown out of hers it was passed down to Ellie and last year I bought Ellie one in a couple of sizes too big so it lasts.

To turn the oven on!
Yes! I have done this plenty of times.

To put the vegetables on!
Yep. I've forgot to turn them off too and burnt the water dry. Oops.

Is there something you always forget to buy or do in the run up to Christmas?

The best Christmas jumpers I have found.

Christmas Jumper Day will take place on Friday 11th December this year to raise money for Save the Children.  Even though we’re in lockdown, this is a day you can safely enjoy wherever you are. At school, working from home or with your family. Just grab a jumper and give £2 to Save the Children!

I don't usually bother with a Christmas jumper but this year I am determined to get one. Just to make this year a little bit better than it has been.

These are some of the best I have seen online lately.
