It's time for me to share some of my life, linking up and joining in with the Share Our Lives bloggers! This months prompt to talk about is: 5 things we like to do in Winter, Summer, Fall and Spring!
I’m one of those people who tries to find something to enjoy in every season, even winter when it is freezing out! Just when you get a bit sick of one season the next one comes along with different things to enjoy!
Spring!
Spring is the season of daffodils, unpredictable weather and a sudden urge to clean things. I always get a boost of energy in spring and I love it when the clocks change and the evenings get lighter.
1. Decluttering the house - There's nothing like a good spring clean. It always starts with a single drawer and ends with me knee deep in bags full to go to the charity shop wondering why I own 44 mugs.
2. Planting things - I’m not an expert when it comes to gardening but I love pottering about with some compost and seeds. Watching little green shoots pop up makes me feel so pleased with myself and later on in the year when I have things grown makes me so proud.
3. Eating lighter meals - As soon as the days start to get warmer I start craving lighter meals and things like salad.
4. Buying fresh flowers just because - There’s something about daffodils or tulips in a vase on the table that instantly brightens the whole room and my mood. Daffodils are usually so cheap in the spring it would be rude not to buy them.
5. Getting Back into a routine - After the hibernation of winter spring gives me a little motivation boost. I actually want to move my body again, I start jotting down goals and everything feels a bit more doable when the days are brighter.
Summer!
I’m not a full on summer worshipper. I constantly feel like I am melting, I complain a lot and I will always choose shade over sun but summer has its perks.
1. Ice Cream for no reason - I don’t need to justify a 99 with a flake in July. It’s practically medicinal at that point.
2. Picky plates - I hate cooking when it's hot out and roasting in the kitchen so we eat a lot of picky plates with picnic type food. Sausage rolls, pork pies and maybe some salad.
3. Hanging washing on the line - I love hanging clothes out in the sunshine. They dry in no time, smell amazing and there's something satisfying about seeing a row of clothes flapping in the breeze.
4. Doing absolutely nothing and not feeling guilty - The hot weather seems to slow everything down and it's OK just to sit and do nothing whether it being outside in the garden getting some sun or inside when it's cooler.
5. Going to local events - Village fetes, summer markets, agricultural shows, open gardens, food festivals. I love exploring what’s on locally. There’s always something going on in the summer and I’ll never say no to browsing stalls and eating from food trucks.
Autumn!
Autumn is that golden, crunchy leaved, jumper loving time of year that makes me want to slow down and do all the cosy things!
1. Lighting candles - Pumpkin, vanilla, spiced apple. If it smells like a dessert or a bonfire I am buying it and lighting it.
2. Wearing snuggly clothes again - Give me an oversized jumper, thick socks, and a blanket and I’m in my element. Autumn fashion is basically an excuse to wear comfy clothes that also somehow look cute.
3. Watching cosy TV and films - Autumn is when the best TV starts. Strictly Come Dancing, The British Bake Off and dramas galore.
4. Making big comforting dinners - It’s time for roasts, stews, pies and jacket potatoes with all the toppings. Autumn food is hearty and made for second helpings.
5. Planning for Christmas (Just a little) - I’m not full on Christmas mode but autumn is when I start thinking about it. Saving gift ideas and maybe listening to the odd festive playlist when no one’s around.
Winter!
I used to dread winter but I’ve learned to embrace everything about the season which makes it more enjoyable.
1. Hot drinks all day - Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and mulled wine if I’m feeling festive. My kettle works overtime in winter. If it’s warm and comes in a mug, I’m drinking it
2. Layering up in cosy clothes - I become a walking pile of knitwear. I love fleece lined leggings, giant jumpers, and fluffy socks. They are all necessary!
3. Watching Christmas films - From October onwards, I’m watching Elf, The Holiday and Home Alone on rotation. I love all the cheesy Christmas movies on Netflix and will watch those again and again too!
4. Having lazy mornings - There’s no rush in winter. Dark mornings give me permission to stay snuggled in bed that little bit longer. I love putting on fluffy socks, making a slow breakfast (porridge or crumpets!) and easing into the day at my own pace.
5. Planning for the year ahead - I know New Year’s resolutions can be hit or miss but I enjoy using January to dream a bit and make some plans.

ReplyDeleteNice, I should make a similar list, just to make sure I am doing enough in each season!
ReplyDeleteSo true- everything that you wrote! I love the, "if it smells like a dessert or bonfire I'm buying it and lighting it." There is good in every season and I think I could come up with a similar list of favorites for each season :).
ReplyDeleteI won't say no to ice cream in any season!
