What I have loved this week! Week 39. #FridayFavourites

I’ve had such a great week and more importantly I finally feel back to my normal self after being hit with an annoying cold. Normally I sit down on a Thursday afternoon to write this little weekly post but yesterday I was off out on a bit of an adventure so I had to shuffle things around and get typing early. It felt like the week was only halfway done and there I was writing my end of week post, very strange! Anyway, here I am today with my list of things I’ve been loving and of course I am linking up with with Erika and Andrea to share them.

What I have loved this week

Sunday at the Carvery!
The pub near us has started doing their carvery again now the season has turned and it's so good! You queue up, pick your meat then it’s basically a vegetable heaven where you pile your plate with as much as you can carry and there are of course giant Yorkshire puddings too. I always have to stop myself from just filling my plate with roast parsnips because they’re my favourite. This time I went for roast gammon with creamy mash, red cabbage, parsnips, honey roasted carrots, peas and sage and onion stuffing, all drowned in a proper flood of gravy.

The Chronicles of Narnia!
My Sunday films are becoming a bit of a tradition now and I like to keep them themed. This time I went all in on The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will always be my favourite nothing beats that first magical step into Narnia but I actually enjoyed the other two more than I remembered as well. There’s something really cosy about settling in with a film series on a Sunday and Narnia was just the perfect pick!

Banana and chocolate chip muffins!

Banana and chocolate chip muffins

I was making the Bolognese for tea on Tuesday and while I was waiting for the mince to brown I spied some bananas which were going brown so on a whim decided to make some muffins, they were going to be just banana until I noticed the chocolate chips in the cupboard. They weren't the prettiest! I wouldn't be getting the Paul Hollywood handshake but they did taste amazing!

Autumn clothes!
You know that line from Gilmore Girls "I am an Autumn"? That’s exactly how I feel about clothes this time of year. I absolutely love wearing dresses with tights and boots, it’s such an easy outfit but makes me feel so put together. My wardrobe is full of autumnal coloured dresses with all those deep reds, greens and warm browns. They feel so cosy but also stylish. Autumn fashion always feels like it's my time to shine!

Having a catch up with my dad!
On Monday I had a walk out to see my dad. I missed my visit last Friday as I didn't want to pass my cold on to him so it felt like ages since I had seen him. When I got there he was pottering about in his usual way, busy doing something completely different from what he was supposed to be doing. He was cleaning an engine for his vintage car. It was actually really satisfying to watch. The engine went from being completely black and grimy to looking silver and shiny, almost brand new again. He was so chuffed with himself and I loved just being there to see it.

Conkers!

More conkers

This one might be a bit random but I can’t help myself, every time I spot conkers on the ground I have to pick them up. We’ve got loads of horse chestnut trees around here and they’re dropping conkers left, right and centre at the moment. By winter, I usually have a whole bowlful sitting around the house. I don’t do anything with them, I just like how shiny and pretty they look when you first pick them up. They’re such a small but simple joy of autumn!

Strictly Come Dancing!
Strictly is back on our screens and I will be sat here every Saturday evening watching. I loved seeing all the new celebrities take their first steps on the dance floor and this year’s line up has already hooked me in. I’m secretly rooting for Stefan Dennis, Paul Robinson from Neighbours because how brilliant would it be if Dianne won two years on the trot and as the first pregnant pro at that!! Realistically I think that Lewis off Emmerdale or Ellie Goldstein might win, either way, I’m just glad it’s back!

A day out with my dad's partner!
Yesterday myself and my dad's partner went off a bus trip to Birmingham to visit the biggest Primark store in the world. It holds the Guinness World Record for the world's largest fashion retail store. Spanning five floors and approximately 160,000 square feet! I am going to have to write more about it over the weekend as I was in no rush to get in last night and switch my laptop on.

What have you loved over the past week?

  5. This is hilarious. I'd never heard of conkers! We call them chestnuts in North America.
ALSO...I have this dress that I really love and it's in forest green which is perfect for fall because I could not figure out what to wear with it. It doesn't look right with sneakers. AND NOW I'VE REMEMBERED I HAVE NICE TAN BOOTS THAT WILL BE PERFECT. This literally did not cross my mind until I saw your comment about tights and boots and dresses. Gah. I'm so happy right now! And I am literally going to switch out my open-toed sandals for my boots in the upstairs shoe closet right this minute.

  6. "a proper flood of gravy", it's a British tradition! Talked to my cousin in Birmingham and we'll go to spend the day with her and her family while we're in the UK. I hope it includes a trip to a carvery for Sunday lunch!
