This week my Word of the Week is: 2016!! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

2016

This week has been a good week. I haven't really been up to much, not anything that is worth writing about anyway. It has been all the normal, day-to-day stuff. Housework, running errands, all that boring stuff so I thought I would jump on the 2016 trend bandwagon. People online have kicked off this huge throwback trend where they’re revisiting life and memories from ten years ago, 2016. It’s being called "2026 is the new 2016" and has gone viral on social media.

My family in 2016

2016 doesn't seem that long ago but at the same time, for me it feels like it was a lifetime ago. So much has changed in mine and my family's life. I was of course blogging in 2016 and you can see my top 10 blog posts from that year. My blog wasn't even called Life As Kim, I was Northumberland Mam back then because we lived in Northumberland.

My girls turned 14 and 9 years old during 2016 and life seemed so much simpler. I am guessing there were things to worry about but there was none of the big stuff. Our days were filled with trips to the park, arts and crafts, baking and just enjoying life.

My girls 2016

In 2016 Becky was finishing year 8 and went into year 9 at secondary school and Ellie was finishing year 4 and went into year 5 at Primary school. It was a school year when there were no big changes or much going on. It was the year before Becky started her GCSE's and the year before Ellie was in her last year of Primary school so it felt like they were happily plodding along.

My family in 2016

One of the many things I miss from living in Northumberland are the beaches! We had one about a 15-minute bus ride away and another about half an hour away which we would visit all the time. There are of course beaches close to North Lincolnshire where we are now but they are a bit of a trek and the girls don't like the beach as much as they did 10 years ago.

Looking back on 2016 and I was shocked at how few photos there were of me! I know I used to blog post about the girls but there was less than a handful of me. I was always the one taking the photos, behind the camera. I had to go onto Stu's computer and look at the photos he took to find some of me. I am glad things have changed and show my face more now. I find it so strange looking back on old photos of me with my natural hair colour, dark brown! I've been dying my hair bright colours since around 2019 and can't imagine having a normal hair colour now and I can't imagine having a fringe either. Eek!

Me in 2016

How has your week been? I hope you have had a good one! I am of course linking up with Anne who blogs at Raisie Bay to join in with her Word of the Week linky!

  1. Aww your girls look so little there and now they're grown up. Surprising how much can change in 10 years when you have younger kids. Mine were all older and married by 2016 so not so many changes for them apart from the grandchildren arriving. I'd love to be close enough to go for walks on a beach.

  2. I loved looking at these old pictures! For the record, I like you with both the natural hair color and the brighter version that you do now. Isn't this fun to do?? I went down a serious rabbit hole when I started looking back.

  3. Oh my goodness time flies doesn't it! Both my kids were children back then and now they are adults. Living by the beach would be nice, not much opportunity for that where I live LOL! Karen Early Rising Mum

  4. Love the throwback pics! You look exactly the same except your hair color as does Stu. Those were such fun times with the kids ten years ago! It looks like you made the most of your kids' childhood, doing fun and crafty things with them. Plus living close to a beach! How awesome! We are a ten hour drive from the nearest ocean beach; the nearest lake with a decent beach is probably only a four hour drive but we don't do that much. Anyway, I enjoyed seeing your pictures and hearing what life was like back then :).

  5. Oh, I remember your old blog handle but never connected the dots. I was also blogging in 2016 but my blog from that time I've set to private a long time ago. Thanks for sharing this glimpse into your life ten years ago.

  6. Fewer photos of the photographer -- that's just how it goes unless we hand the camera to somebody and ask them to take our picture. You have a precious family.

  7. In 2016 our younger daughter was a senior in high school and I was not very good at taking (or organizing) digital photos! Your girls were so young - such sweet memories!

  8. I saw the trend, but didn't join. I love seeing your photos. The girls were girls and now they are women, what a change and I imagine that makes you so proud, to see them how they grew up, into the wonderful people they are now.
I didn't have a fringe in 2016, but I do now and I wonder why I didn't get one earlier! Hahaha

  9. I have seen this trend, it's frightening how quickly those 10 years have flown by!
You have some great memories to look back on, that's the best part about having a blog isn't it.
Here's to another 10 years of memories.

  10. I love this! I remember your girls when they were teeny tiny, and Ellie's Monkey. You and Stu haven't changed at all, apart from your hair. I do love all of the fun colours you use now, though.
I've always thought I look weird with a fringe, haha. I haven't had one for years.
    Lovely memories. xx

  11. That was fun seeing pictures from 10 years ago! It's been fun seeing others' photos on blogs. I did one too, but look about the same! LOL I was old then, too! Cheers! xo

  12. I did an instagram post with some images from 2016 - it was a good year for us. It is always fun to look back to see how far we have come, right? And so crazy to see our grown kiddos as little ones!

  13. Just look at you all! I think I knew your Northumberland Mam blog, though don't think I was involved in Project 365 then. Your girls look so cute, and you're all so lovely.

  14. I love your photos from 2016, our kids grow up so quick. Back then mine where 11, 8 and 6 (by mid year) I had just become sick (Jan1st) and I got married (November 26th) It was quite and eventful year but not one I really like to focus on. Apart from my darling children x

  15. Look how tiny the girls were! I can't believe it! And I love the throwback pictures of you with your natural hair color. You look great, but I do really love your colorful hair now!

  16. I still see you and the girls like this, I don't think of them as all grown up. If I go back 10 years, mine had all left home and apart from having 4 grandchildren and us living in Dubai, life wasn't much different from how it is now. I was teaching in a primary school, but now I'm in a secondary school. I'd have to go back to 2006 to have kids at home the ages your girls were and they'd be aged 18, 17, 14, 11 & 7

  17. I keep thinking about joining in with this. I remember following your blog back in 2016 when you were Northumberland Mam. Lovely photos of your girls from back then. I know what you mean about being the one mostly behind the camera. I love that you’re more in front of the camera though these days. #WotW
