Last weeks meal plan went well. I did end up swapping a couple of meals around because when do I ever stick to the plan exactly as written but the important thing is everything was eaten and that always feels like a win in my book!
This is going to be a busy but exciting week, my baby turns 18 on Friday! Eighteen!! Time really does fly when you are having fun and can you believe this is the last full week of the summer holidays! Ellie returns to college next week. We were there last week picking up her GCSE results, the English one that she had to resit and she will have to resit it again as she didn't get the pass. Ugh! I keep reminding myself and her that it’s not the end of the world. Last year wasn’t the easiest for her with everything going on personally but things are much more settled now. She’s in such a better place emotionally and that makes a huge difference. I know she’ll get there eventually and if nothing else I heard the government are on about scrapping the resits so they can't mean that much. lol
College on Thursday was crazy!! I've never seen so many people there, all the new starters were enrolling and most with their parents. The teachers looked frazzled and the new students looked terrified. Ellie and I were seemed like the most relaxed people there, just picking up the envelope with her results. We did stop for a chat with the head of Engineering and what a lovely guy! I can see why Ellie speaks so highly of him, he just came across as genuinely kind, approachable and passionate about what he does! I also met Ellie's wellbeing coach who I've spoken to plenty of times on the phone but she’s even lovelier face to face. You can just tell when someone really cares and it makes me feel so much better knowing Ellie has that support in college. That's the thing with college life, you never really get to speak to the tutors and teachers as a parent like you did when the kids were at school so I take every chance I get, to see who is teaching my girl.
On the menu this week we have:
Monday - To be decided! I'm not too sure yet. It depends on the weather, we might have plans.
Tuesday - Gousto meal - Sticky Honey Mustard Posh Dogs With Chips.
Wednesday -Gousto meal - Sticky Sweet & Sour Pork Meatball Tray Bake. I’m quite excited about this one, we've not had it before and sounds just like a takeaway but cooked from scratch.
Thursday - Gousto meal - Carrot & Coriander Soup With Chutney Twists. A favourite of ours!
Friday - Ellie's birthday meal!!
Saturday - Gousto meal - Chicken Korma With Spinach Rice.
Sunday - A roast dinner of some sort.
What about you? Do you meal plan or do you just wing it each day depending on what you fancy? What's on your menu this week?
It sounds like Ellie has some lovely tutors. We all think that O and A levels are the be-all and end-all at the time, but once you have taken the next step, they become meaningless. She will be fine.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Ellie Friday!
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad the Ellie didn't get the result she was hoping for but hopefully it will come soon. I hope her 18th birthday is a great one- I'm sure the celebrating will be fun! Now that my kids are older and we are practically empty nesters, I wing it most weeks with meal planning. Have a great Monday!
ReplyDeleteWishing your Ellie the best day on Friday!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Ellie's English woes, reminds me of my sister who had to retake Maths I don't know how many times! I'd love to see some photos of your Gousto meals - Sticky Honey Mustard Posh Dogs sound intriguing and so do Chutney Twists.
ReplyDeleteOH yes, I often wish I could put a face to the names/people teaching my son too.... but I never even met 1/2 of his teachers at the high school either as they never had open house or meet the teacher nights and the vast majority of them never had slots open on parent/teacher conference nights either as they had 20 slots to cover every single student they saw in a semester. I didn't meal plan this week at all but I have some vague ideas of what we'll be eating based on what food I can already find around the house. I mean we did grocery shop but I really only bought fruits, veggies, and diary products.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your daughter! Sorry about the test results, but as you say it's not the end of the world. These things can sometimes feel like it when we're young, and it's nice she's got you encouraging her. Are you cooking or celebrating with dinner out? My hubs birthday is next week and he wants dinner at home and I'm good with that. Not sure what I'm making but there will be a chocolate cake for sure. Have a nice week!
