Kids game shows I wanted to be part of.

I feel sorry for kids today. There is a lack of game shows that they could be part of. Well I don't watch much kids TV now but I haven't heard of any. Back in the day, in the 80's and 90's when I was a kid there were so many. I watched them and used to think I could do that. I dreamed of taking part in them. They looked so fun! How many of these do you remember?

Woman with pink hair watching TV

Fun House.

"Wacky! Fun! Crazy! It's outrageous!"

When I used to take my kids to soft play I used to think of this TV show. lol Pat Sharp was a legend with a mullet and the games looked like so much fun! Two teams of two play three gungy games to win points. Then there was the Fun Kart grand prix, a race around the studio where they can earn lots and lots of bonus points by collecting tokens. Then the winning team got to go in the Funhouse where they could win prizes! A Megadrive, a trendy watch, a blow up alligator: the stuff of dreams!

Apparently, if you wanted to go on Fun House, they went round schools auditioning kids. Part of this auditioning included getting covered in gunge. I would have so done that if it meant that I could go on!

Knightmare.

Enter, stranger....

I loved this show but it scared me at the same time. I remember watching it shouting at the TV and getting so stressed over it, especially when they messed up.

The entire show was set in the Dungeon where Treguard the Lord of Knightmare Castle would host. On the immortal words of "Enter, Stranger" a child would enter the room, transported from the real world. He/she was the Dungeoneer and would enter the Dungeon with a helmet on so they couldn't see but to guide them they would have three team mates. It was quite ground breaking for a children's show as the dungeon was all computer generated, like virtual reality but 30 odd years ago.

I didn't want to be the child in the helmet. I wanted to be one of the kids directing them. I am sure my team would have won!

Mallet's Mallet!

I wanted so much to be whacked on the head with a foam mallet. hehehe

Kids had to play a simple word association game and if you couldn't think of a word you would get smacked on the head.

It sounds so stupid but I desperately wanted to play it. Timmy Mallett was a comedy genius back when I was a kid. We'll just forget about the Itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini song he brought out.

The Crystal Maze.

This wasn't really a kids TV show. I'm sure it used to be on at about 6pm on CH4. I was so sure as a child I could do better than some of the adults on it. hehehe It was only good when Richard O'Brien was presenting it though. Anyone since just hasn't done it for me.

Get Your Own Back.

Two or three competing teams including a child and a parent/relative/teacher/celeb who has committed some dreadful crime such as being old, singing badly or insisting upon a tidy room compete. At the end of the show, the child who has gained most points has earned the right to Get Their Own Back upon their elder by dunking them into a pool of colourful gunge. I could have thought of a few people I could have happily dunked.

They just don't make them like they used to, do they?
What game show did you want to be on?

Chocolate Cookie Cups - Recipe!

I don't need to have an excuse to eat chocolate but we have a great one coming up! It is World Chocolate Day on Sunday and it is the perfect time to indulge in all things chocolate!

This year, take your chocolate indulgence to the next level with these chocolate cookie cups. These delectable desserts combine the rich, comforting flavours of cookies with the creamy goodness of your favourite fillings, creating a truly irresistible treat. These cookie cups are easy to make and fun to customise allowing you to get creative with your toppings.

Chocolate Cookie Cups

Makes 12 cookie cups
Prep time: 15 mins - Cook time: 18 to 20 minutes.

Ingredients:

150g of unsalted butter, softened to room temperature and extra for greasing.
200g of granulated sugar.
1 egg.
200g of plain flour.
1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda.
A pinch of flaky sea salt.
100g dark or milk chocolate chips.
12 tablespoons of hazelnut chocolate spread.

Equipment:

A large mixing bowl.
A wooden spoon.
A 12 hole muffin tin, greased with butter.
A tablespoon.

Chocolate Cookie Cups with ice cream

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan).

In the large mixing bowl cream together the butter and sugar by smoothing them against the side of the bowl with the back of the wooden spoon then add the egg followed by the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt. Mix in the chocolate chips and bring together to form a dough.

Divide the dough evenly into 12 portions, roll into balls and place into each muffin tin cavity. Push each one down gently to flatten then place in the oven for 18 to 20 minutes until risen and golden. They will still be soft and a little sunken in the centre, this is how you want them to be.

Whilst hot and still in the muffin tray, use the back of a spoon to make the wells in the centres of the cookie cups a little deeper being careful not to break them.

Spoon a tablespoon of Hazelnut Chocolate spread into the centre of each cookie cup and leave to soften for a few minutes.

Gently remove the cookie cups from the muffin tin and serve warm as they are or with a scoop of ice cream on top.

365 Days Of Gratitude. In June I was grateful for..

I have seen many people on social media list something every day that they are grateful for and thought I would join in and have on my private Facebook account every day and I thought I would share here too. I did this for the whole of last year couple of years and it has really made me realise that even on the bad day's I have something to be grateful for.

June was not the greatest month for my family! We had a lot going on, some that I blogged about some that I didn't. I have tried to keep things positive but in real life, away from the computer June really was something!

Our weekly meal plan! 1st - 7th July! #MealPlanningMonday

Our weekly meal plan

Out of the 7 meals planned last week we ate one, the hot dogs on Monday! lol I did cook the pasta dish on Tuesday morning, feeling so proud of myself that I didn't have to cook later on in the day when the weather warmed up but no one ate it as by tea time the week had all gone a bit wrong. We had a bit of drama with Ellie doing some silly things and ending up in hospital. She is fine now and I think has scared herself more than anything. The meat from the Gousto box that we had delivered was put in the freezer so it wasn't a complete waste.

After all the stress of last week we had a quiet weekend, stayed home and just had some family time. We had a stir fry on Saturday and chicken and bacon pies with mash and veg on Sunday. I felt so lucky to get a delivery slot on Saturday for the food shop! There was one slot left with the supermarket that I wanted to use, at the perfect time too!

This week we have a lot going on. We have some jobs to do around the house, have to go to college to drop Ellie's overalls and locker key off as she didn't last week. We're out for a meal one night with friends and then there is the agricultural show over the weekend that we end up going to every year. I hope it's going to be a fun week!

On the menu this week we have:

Monday - Corned beef pasties, chips and baked beans.
Wednesday - Some sort of salad, I am planning to go to the farm shop to get some fresh bits and hopefully they will have some lovely cooked meat too.
Thursday - A fry up! Sausage, bacon, eggs, black pudding, mushrooms, baked beans, tomatoes and toast.
Friday - A meal out!
Saturday - I imagine we we will be eating on and off all day at the agricultural show. Pulled pork burgers, mini doughnuts, candy floss and ice cream so we won't want much when we're home. Everyone can help themselves.
Sunday - The same as Saturday.

What are you eating this week?
