Show weekend 2024!

The first weekend in July where I live is always show weekend. I started writing this on the Sunday evening and it feels like I need a week to recover from our weekend! I am worn out!

Sheep

The agricultural show starts on Saturday but the couple of pubs that we have locally always go all out and put something special on the Friday evening. Our favourite pub had an outdoor BBQ and music all night including an ABBA tribute band, who doesn't like ABBA! We dressed up and got therea little after half past five to get a table and I am glad we did by half past six the place was packed! Ellie was looking a little too grown up for my liking and was mistaken for Becky's older sister at one point. Eek!

Me and my youngest dressed up

We had a fun evening eating burgers, had a few drinks and there was a lot of singing and dancing! Ellie is not usually a dancer but there was someone there who was shyer than she was and it was agreed if the shy girl danced, Ellie would too! Then there was no stopping her! It was such a fun family night, usually kids have to be out of the pub at 9pm but the owner said if they behave they can stay and it gave the parents a fun night. Some other kids must have heard the music from the park and ended up stood looking over the pub wall, singing and dancing. They were so funny! ABBA really is for all ages.

ABBA Tribute

We got home just before midnight and was ready for bed and an early start. The early start didn't happen and we got up about 9am and left at about half past 10 for the agricultural show! There was all the usual stuff there fairground rides, lots of yummy food stalls, things going on in the main arena, show jumping and plenty to see.

We spent all day at the show. We enjoyed watching the stunt people on horses especially! I used to have horses and ponies and wouldn't dare do half the things that the men and women were doing on their horses!

Stunt horses

The girls went off to the fairground rides. It is better for my nerves if I don't see them going on spinning, twisting rides. lol They had a great time. Thankfully neither of them was sick after riding the waltzers a couple of times.

We couldn't walk far without bumping into people we knew, what a difference 5 years makes. We went to our first show here the weekend after we moved here and knew no one!

Horse and carriages

The weather wasn't the best, all day it had looked like rain and at about 3pm the heavens opened and there was such a downpour. We ran to the craft tent to stay dry like lots of other people. As quickly as the rain started it had stopped and we went for another wander around buying mini doughnuts and home made fudge.

At around 4pm we decided to call it a day. We had planned to go to the pub to watch the football but we just wanted to get home and into our pj's. We had a cosy evening at home watching England win their match on penalties which never happens, we have never been good under pressure. We got a takeaway and had an early night which was needed.

On Sunday we were going to go to the 2nd day of the show but the weather was awful! It chucked it down all morning and into the afternoon. We stayed home, in our pj's and had planned for a quiet day. We were in no mood to cook so it was picky bits for lunch. I do love a beige lunch. hehehe Pork pies, sausage rolls, cocktail sausages and sandwiches. I felt like I had to add a bit of colour so had crabsticks and cherry tomatoes too.

A beige lunch

At about 4pm the sun decided to come out and we decided not to waste the day and to have a visit to the pub as we knew they had a couple more bands on to finish the weekend off in style! My family didn't need any convincing but poor Becky had to go to work, a night shift. There was a couple more showers but we got a perfect table under a tree which sheltered us while everyone else seemed to be hiding in a couple of gazebo's or under umbrella's.

A band at the pub

We ate kebabs, burgers and had a good sing along to the bands. It was a great way to end show weekend. I did feel sorry for the last band which was on. Everyone at the pub felt the same as us, worn out from a good weekend so there weren't many people up dancing. The band did a great job. I got a text off Becky saying she could hear the music from work and one of her texts simply said "Last Christmas! WTF!". You had to be there, the band were saying they're coming back at Christmas and ended up singing Wham's Last Christmas as a little preview. lol We were home a little before 10pm and I was definitely glad to be in my pj's.

What a weekend and we will probably do it all again next year!

Our weekly meal plan! 15th - 21st July! #MealPlanningMonday

Our weekly meal plan

Last weeks meal plan went pretty well! We ended up having the quiche with chips and had tuna pasta bake on Thursday instead of the tuna salad as the weather hasn't really been salad weather. We had a rare Sunday at home and I cooked sausages, mash and some veg. I hate cooking on a Sunday, I have got used to it being a lazy day.

This week we are back on the Gousto box deliveries although I only have a few meals coming as we have plans for later on in the week. It's worked out well, Stu usually does the cooking on a Monday but today he is at work. His managers wanted the reliable people in the office just in case a lot of people phoned in sick because of the England game last night.

Becky is off work again, for all of this week and Stu has Saturday off so we're going to have a family day out. We have something planned and I will tell you all about it next week. We are going to have a lot of fun. hehehe

On the menu this week we have:

Monday - Gousto meal - Pork & Beef Sloppy Joe Loaded Fries With Smoky Ranch Dressing.
Tuesday - Gousto meal - Thai-Style Pork Patties With Sweet Potato Wedges. This is one of our favourite Gousto meals, we've had it a few times in the past.
Wednesday - Jacket potatoes and whatever toppings we decide on. Probably baked beans and cheese.
Thursday - Gousto meal - Chinese-Style Veggie Fried Rice And Fried Egg.
Friday - We are going out for a meal.
Saturday - Pizza. We are out for the day so will want something that's easy.
Sunday - A fry up! Sausages, bacon, hash browns, mushrooms, black pudding, tomatoes and toast.

What are you eating this week?

Week 28 of #Project365 7th - 13th July. A photo every day for a year!

Happy Sunday! I hope you are having a nice relaxed day. We have nothing at all planned apart from staying home which has been the theme for the week. Tonight there is of course a little football match to watch. Come on England! At the moment I am excited about it but I will be watching it behind my hands when it is happening. hehehe I hope we win! Stu was asked if he would go into work tomorrow as the managers are not confident that everyone is going to turn up to work if England win the Euro's and they want some reliable people in the office, just in case. Eek! It's good that they see Stu as one of the reliable one's.

We have had a good week, it has been nice to have Becky off work, she is using up some of her holidays and Ellie home each day from college. It's supposed to be the summer holidays but it doesn't much feel like summer. I thought about putting the heating on yesterday as it was so chilly.

Now for a photo every day!

Me and tomatoes
Rain
Football on TV and my girls
Haircut and Gypsy Rose on the TV

189/365 - 7th July
Me! We spent the day lazing around in our pj's as it was raining so it was nice to get a bit dressed up to go out when the sun came out.

190/365 - 8th July
My tomatoes are growing, there must at least 50 on each plant. I can't wait for them to ripen and to eat them.

191/365 - 9th July
Rain! Ugh! I am so sick of it now. I want sunshine and dry days. I want to sit in the garden and eat ice lollies. I don't want to be hiding inside with winter jumpers on.

192/365 - 10th July
Football! It was a good match, the England team played better than they have been, the win wasn't easy but we made it though to the final!

193/365 - 11th July
My girls! They went into town for a look around some shops, lunch out and of course a drink from Starbucks.

194/365 - 12th July
Becky tried a new place for a haircut. £8 cheaper than the usual place that she goes to and this new guy did a better job. She will be going back.

195/365 - 13th July
Becky and I binge watched the Gypsy Rose documentaries over a couple of days. The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose and then Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up. I really don't know how to feel about her. I feel sad for her but I don't like how she is such a celebrity now.

This week my Word of the Week is: Home! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Home

We have had a lovely week at home, mostly! We needed it after the weekend that we had. Friday night, out at the pub. Saturday at the agricultural show, Sunday complaining about the rain, then going to the pub and Monday going to see my dad!

Ellie is on her summer holidays from college so I am seeing plenty of her with her spending more time at home, when she can be bothered to get herself out of bed. Sometimes it's heading towards lunchtime before she comes downstairs despite me nagging! It's not even because she is sleeping, she will wake up at about 9am and then watch a couple of episodes of Grey's Anatomy. We have got on with the ton of admin preparing for September and her going back to college. Finance forms to fill in, sorting her bus pass and a few other bits. At least there is no uniform to buy. It has came up on my Facebook memories over the past week from various years complaining about the cost of the uniform. Eek!

Becky booked this week off work which came as a surprise to me, I knew she had next week off but she thought I just knew about this week! I guess my psychic powers are not working anymore. lol She has enjoyed being at home and not having to plan her life around work. She's done all of her washing, tidied her room properly and played on her laptop lots which she doesn't usually have time for.

On Wednesday I was left home alone while the girls went into town. I love them to bits but after having them here for a few days, together it was lovely to have some peace. Now, I am not used to them both being home at the same time for more than a day. I am not complaining though, we have had some giggles and there has been less bickering than usual. Don't get me wrong they have had their moments, especially when they are in the kitchen together but on the whole they've been lovely to each other.

The only bad thing about having the girls home is that I have totally lost track with what day it is. Stu being off work on Saturday didn't help either. I was sat here Saturday evening thinking it was Sunday. Thursday felt like a Friday and yesterday felt like a Saturday. Today I am hoping I am back on track and today actually feels like a Saturday although I doubt it will. lol

I cannot end my Word of the Week post without mentioning the football! Haven't the boys done well! Dare we start singing It's coming home, it's coming home. It's coming, football's coming home! After the first couple of matches in the Euro's I can't believe we are through to the final! It's going to be a tough match against Spain but we did it and got to the final, now we just have to win! I think Monday should be made into a Bank Holiday, I think there will be a few sore heads and people phoning in sick to work. hehehe

How has your week been? I hope you have had a good one!
