The first weekend in July where I live is always show weekend. I started writing this on the Sunday evening and it feels like I need a week to recover from our weekend! I am worn out!
The agricultural show starts on Saturday but the couple of pubs that we have locally always go all out and put something special on the Friday evening. Our favourite pub had an outdoor BBQ and music all night including an ABBA tribute band, who doesn't like ABBA! We dressed up and got therea little after half past five to get a table and I am glad we did by half past six the place was packed! Ellie was looking a little too grown up for my liking and was mistaken for Becky's older sister at one point. Eek!
We spent all day at the show. We enjoyed watching the stunt people on horses especially! I used to have horses and ponies and wouldn't dare do half the things that the men and women were doing on their horses!
We couldn't walk far without bumping into people we knew, what a difference 5 years makes. We went to our first show here the weekend after we moved here and knew no one!
The weather wasn't the best, all day it had looked like rain and at about 3pm the heavens opened and there was such a downpour. We ran to the craft tent to stay dry like lots of other people. As quickly as the rain started it had stopped and we went for another wander around buying mini doughnuts and home made fudge.
At around 4pm we decided to call it a day. We had planned to go to the pub to watch the football but we just wanted to get home and into our pj's. We had a cosy evening at home watching England win their match on penalties which never happens, we have never been good under pressure. We got a takeaway and had an early night which was needed.
On Sunday we were going to go to the 2nd day of the show but the weather was awful! It chucked it down all morning and into the afternoon. We stayed home, in our pj's and had planned for a quiet day. We were in no mood to cook so it was picky bits for lunch. I do love a beige lunch. hehehe Pork pies, sausage rolls, cocktail sausages and sandwiches. I felt like I had to add a bit of colour so had crabsticks and cherry tomatoes too.
At about 4pm the sun decided to come out and we decided not to waste the day and to have a visit to the pub as we knew they had a couple more bands on to finish the weekend off in style! My family didn't need any convincing but poor Becky had to go to work, a night shift. There was a couple more showers but we got a perfect table under a tree which sheltered us while everyone else seemed to be hiding in a couple of gazebo's or under umbrella's.
We ate kebabs, burgers and had a good sing along to the bands. It was a great way to end show weekend. I did feel sorry for the last band which was on. Everyone at the pub felt the same as us, worn out from a good weekend so there weren't many people up dancing. The band did a great job. I got a text off Becky saying she could hear the music from work and one of her texts simply said "Last Christmas! WTF!". You had to be there, the band were saying they're coming back at Christmas and ended up singing Wham's Last Christmas as a little preview. lol We were home a little before 10pm and I was definitely glad to be in my pj's.
What a weekend and we will probably do it all again next year!
I love beige picky bits!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like such a fun weekend! ABBA really is for all the ages and it was great that the pub owner let the kids enjoy the night. The agricultural show also sounds fantastic with so much to see, do and eat!
ReplyDeleteOH wow; that sounds like such a fun weekend! Ellie really is looking so grown up. I was mistaken for my older sister's older sister a time or two which is pretty crazy since she's 3 years older than me and to my tween/early teen eyes was always so glamorous and grown up looking.
