Bonfire Night....

Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason, why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

I think Bonfire night is the only tradition I don't get really excited about.....

When I was about 4 or 5 years old my mam and dad took me to my first firework display....A big organised one I didn't like it one bit....I didn't like the noise or being cold...I cried and cried and ended up sat in the nice warm car watching them eating chips.....

As a teenager my friends and I would go to the local firework display.....Just to go to the fair they always had there and the local radio roadshow ohh and to chat up boys....lol

One great memory I have is the years my brother and his friends would collect anything which could be burnt and make a huge bonfire in the big churchyard that we used to live next too....My mother used to go crazy with him for borrowing the wheelie bin to collect stuff.....It was great fun....There was great community spirit....Even though it was about 30 lads aged between about 10 and 16 they were just left to get on with it....

Since having kids we've never been to a fireworks display....Even though Ellie is near enough deaf in one ear she doesn't like loud noises....So fire works are a big no-no! Becky isn't too bothered about them either!!

The good thing about living where we do is we just have to open the blinds and we can see all the fireworks....The ones coming from the organised display and the one's people set off themselves....We can stay at home in the warm, without the crowds and still have fun!!

Whatever you are doing tonight....Stay safe!!

  2. We're going to watch from inside too. Jasper loves watching the fireworks light up the night sky but doesn't like crowds of people. We don't have them at home because I have severe asthma and this week is never good for me. It is my mum's birthday on bonfire night though so we usually have some sparklers. Jasper remembers last year drawing pictures in the sky with them so we might do that again! Going to watch some videos (for kids!) about the history of bonfire night when he wakes up - he's gone for a nap as he's a tired patch this morning. Stay safe everyone!

  4. I'm not a huge fan either and don't like taking my children to stand near a huge fire!! We are definitely indoors watchers too :)

  5. My youngest used to scream and scream at fireworks, in complete contrast to his older brother who loved them! Now aged 8 he also loves them so we really enjoy going to fireworks displays. But as I live in France we don't have Bonfire Night, so no choice for me tonight!

  6. I love Fireworks displays. We should have been going tonight but Monkey has been struggling at Nursery this week and I think a late night would have totally tipped him over the edge

  8. We go to the pub at the end of our road - it's brilliant - we only have to go for the fireworks and then 2 minutes walk and we're home. Our children love fireworks - I think it might have something to do with growing up listening to the Playstation!
