Planning for the Prom.

Ellie leaves school in May, shortly after her GCSE exams start. Ellie is looking forward to the exams, it's me who's doing all of the stressing. When the exams have finished there will of course be the prom in July!

Up until the end of last year Ellie had no intention of going to the prom and even if she did she certainly wasn't going to wear a dress. Ellie used to love dresses but it has been such a long time since she last wore one, she is more a tracksuit and hoodie person so when she said she had picked a dress out to wear to the prom I was very surprised. There had been talk of her wearing a trouser suit so her even thinking about a dress had me lost for words.

I have read so much about prom dresses over the years and was excepting to pay a small fortune but Ellie is a bargain hunter and found one on Shein. She of course wants accessories to go with it like a necklace, bracelets, tights but she has said she doesn't need any shoes, she's wearing her Doc Martens with it. Here should be the place that I share a picture of the dress that Ellie has chosen and I have ordered but she wants to keep it mostly a secret until the night of the prom. This is all I am allowed to share.

Prom dress

It's not the typical girly, girl prom dress with glitter and sparkles but it's a dress all the same. I think it is gorgeous but I am not telling Ellie that. hehehe If I say that I love it I have a feeling she will fall out of love with it. Ellie has even got into the prom spirit by saying she wants her hair done properly, not just whacked up into a ponytail, there is talk about her wearing nail varnish too, black of course. lol

There is the tradition of the teenagers being dropped off to prom in fancy cars or something a bit different. We live in a pretty rural area so there are always a lot of tractors and farm vehicles but Ellie has asked her Granddad and he has agreed to take her in his kit car, he's even offered to wear his suit which is usually reserved for occasions like weddings and funerals.

From what I have read online the school are going all out for this years prom as nearly every year of my girls school year has been disrupted by Covid. They have missed out on so many school trips and opportunities to socialise. We worked it out that Ellie has not done a full year at school since she was at Primary school in year 6. We moved house and she left year 7 at her old school a few weeks early then Covid happened and the first normalish year was year 11 but she finishes early, before the end of the official term finishes.

As well as making the prom special the school are trying to make sure that everyone can go. Proms can be expensive so they have somehow managed to get a selection of dresses and suits donated to them so those who can't afford to pay for a one off dress or suit can borrow one. I thought it was such a thoughtful thing to do.

Have you been through the prom experience with your children? How did it go?

Our weekly meal plan! 17th - 23rd April. #MealPlanningMonday

Our weekly meal plan

Last weeks meal plan went pretty well. We ate almost everything, all we didn't eat was the salad. With the weather we've been having we wanted warm food. This week the weather is set to be a bit warmer and dryer. Hooray!

The Easter holidays are almost over, Ellie has a teachers training day today so we're having one last day of fun and we're having a family day out. Then it will be Ellie's last half term at school. Her GCSE's start next month and she leaves school shortly after. Eek!

On Tuesday we have the gas engineer coming to fix the gas meter. I will believe it when it happens since British Gas have messed me around for the last month or so. I blogged about it in my Word of the Week post a couple of weeks ago. All they have to do is take the old meter out and put a new one in. For the rest of the week I don't have any plans apart from catching up on some blogging things and if the weather is nice getting out in the garden.

On the menu this week we have:

Monday - We will just snack when we get home as we are planning to have lunch out.
Tuesday - Something out of the freezer with chips. The gas man is coming between 1pm and 5pm and the gas & electric is planned to be switched off for at least an hour so we're going for something quick.
Wednesday - A midweek roast dinner! Roast chicken a ton of veg, Yorkshire puddings and lots of gravy.
Thursday - Leftover roast dinner pie with mashed potato.
Friday - Meatballs, spaghetti and garlic bread.
Saturday - Leftover meatballs in buns covered in cheese.
Sunday - Toad in the hole, mash and vegetables.

What are you eating this week?

Treats from the farm shop. #MySundaySnapshot

I find it impossible to go to our local farm shop and buy just what I am actually going for. I went for bedding plants, came away with those and also some chutney, pickles and strawberries.

I love Piccalilli on ham sandwiches but just the juice, not the vegetables in it. The Mango is great as a dip and I have eaten nearly half of this jar in a week and it was my first time trying the beetroot chutney, I will be back for more.

A photo every day for a year! 8th - 14th April. Week 15 of #Project365

I love Ellie being home from school but these school holidays seem really long and we seem to have been so busy. I will be glad when she's back at school so I can have a rest and take things at my own pace. hehehe This past week we've been gardening, sorting the garage out, doing things around the house, been to Hull shopping, been to see my dad a couple of times and I've just about managed to keep on top of the housework.

Now for a photo every day!

Bedding plants in planters
Easter egg and a random plant
My youngest and Mrs Potts the teapot
Growing seeds and blue sky

98/365 - 8th April
Ellie and I dug up the planters in the front garden and weeded them before we went to the farm shop and bought some bedding plants. Seeing this photo has reminded me that Stu never got around to giving the planters a lick of paint.

99/365 - 9th April
Easter and of course we all had Easter eggs. Mine was a Galaxy Ripple one. Galaxy is probably my favourite chocolate.

100/365 - 10th April
I took a photo of a random plant in my garden to identify it on an app. I wanted to see if it was a plant/flower and not a weed. I can't remember what it was called. lol

101/365 - 11th April
Ellie and I went to Hull, mostly to get a birthday present for someone but also to get a McDonalds. hehehe

102/365 - 12th April
While I was in Hull Primark I bought this Mrs Potts teapot, it is a real usable teapot but I will be keeping it as an ornament.

103/365 - 13th April
My sweetcorn is growing which I am so chuffed about.

104/365 - 14th April
It looked a gorgeous day yesterday with sunshine and blue skies so I got the washer going, got a load on the line and then another load on the washer. Soon enough the grey clouds and rain came so I was stuck with 2 loads of washing on the airers. Grrr!
