This week my Word of the Week is:
My week has been Lukewarm! Not scorching hot with excitement, not freezing cold with disaster, just lukewarm. The kind of week in the middle of everything where nothing amazing happened but nothing awful happened either. My mood has been a bit meh! I can’t even put my finger on why I’ve felt this way. In January I was full of motivation and everything seemed doable but now I feel like I am just coasting along. The weather hasn’t really helped either but it has been better than last week. A few more sunny spells and less rain.
It hasn’t been all doom and gloom. I did try a couple of new recipes. The Chicken Thigh Soup was a winner. Nothing beats a big, steaming bowl of soup on a chilly evening and on top of that, I started a new audiobook, The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary. I was only just Googling the author to double-check her name when I realised it had been a Channel 5 TV show a few years ago. Now I get to do one of those clever things that readers do, compare the book to the TV show and judge which was better and speaking of TV, I’ve really been getting into crime, thriller and mystery shows lately. Harlan Coben has a bunch of limited series on Netflix to keep me going for the foreseeable future. Although I did get a little confused when James Nesbitt popped up in two different series, playing two completely different characters. One was a father, the other a detective and for a split second I forgot what I was watching and thought I had missed something major.
Ellie had a little adventure this week. She tried something new, going to an open mic night. She wasn’t planning on performing herself, just going to support a friend but it turned into a bigger night out than expected. She told me they started inviting others to join while they were grabbing some food and next thing you know, it’s an evening full of surprises and lots of laughs. She came home after having an amazing time and I had a moment of being an old lady thinking rather her than me. I'd rather be home, PJs on and feet up. Becky is going to a concert soon and she’s just chilling with no rush and no panic about booking hotels or train tickets. I love that she is so calm but I can’t help thinking about how stressed I would be in her shoes. I’d have spreadsheets, plans and everything booked weeks ago!
This time next week Stu starts a week’s holiday from work and Ellie has half-term off college. We have absolutely no plans. Apart from Stu painting the dining room, which I know in my heart is going to turn into a let me take over because you’re being way too careful scenario. It's good that he takes his time but I will watch him and think I can do it quicker. I also know I’ll get frustrated because we’re spending precious free time doing a boring job instead of actually enjoying ourselves. I know the dining room needs painting but can’t it just wait a few more days while we do something fun.
So, that’s been my week. Lukewarm, a little bit of good, a little bit of meh and nice bits sprinkled in here and there. How has your week been? I hope you have had a good one! I am of course linking up with Anne who blogs at Raisie Bay to join in with her Word of the Week linky!

I think lukewarm is a great description. My week was a bit like that too. I blame the weather lol.
ReplyDeleteI feel like most of my weeks are like that which are good. Nothing major bad happened, nothing great- just life coasting along. I had to look up a photo of James Nesbitt as I wasn't sure who he was. Sure enough, I have seen him in Harlan Coban series and yes, it's weird when actors play a character so convincingly in one character that when you see them in something else and they're playing a different character it's like, what is going on? You're supposed to be person X not Y! It sounds like the girls are living their best lives- that's wonderful. I hope you LOVE the dining room when Stu is finished painting it :).
ReplyDeleteI always feel this way in February, too. I think it's the combination of the miserable weather and the cold. There have been lots of signs of spring, though, so we should have a few more brighter days soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you are enjoying books again. I got confused with the Harlan Coben series too, I like the one with Dexter (Michael C Hall) in though.
Have a lovely weekend x
Hey hey, how fun to catch up with your posts again. Glad you are all ok. Lukewarm is ok and so is feeling meh sometimes, lol. I feel like you do too, better being in and cosy on the evenings rather than out in the cold. Only thing is that I've felt this way for years, lol. Hope your next week is just as interesting too.
ReplyDeleteLukewarm isn't always a bad thing, but my dinner out on Thursday evening was less than lukewarm... it was actually COLD in places. First time I've ever had a bad meal there. One of my friends had the same problem with hers, and it was a different menu item. Sure is a letdown. Will Stu let you do the rolling on paint while he does the cutting in? That's what Joe and I used to do. We made it work. Have a good weekend, Kim!! xo
ReplyDeleteHellooo! Sounds like a perfect word. I giggled at the spreadsheet for planning. That would be me. I have become a little more carefree and relaxed as I have aged but I still love to research and plan it all out! I love how these carefree souls can wing things and it turns out amazing. Then I can put a lof darn long hours and hard work planning and it goes south. :) HAHAH!
ReplyDeleteLukewarm is a good word. I think February is just that kind of month, the weather doesn't help. I've not seen that series, I shall take a look. Karen Early Rising Mum
ReplyDeleteI have had a lot of lukewarm weeks since Christmas - nothing big going on, not good or bad! I'm right there with you!
ReplyDeleteLukewarm is nice. Not too exciting, not bad either, just normal life, on the bright side. I hope your painting goes smoothly. We are still adding a few things in the conservatory, like a plant, and some decorations. It's a never ending thing, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI like your definition of the week as being lukewarm. Richard Armitage is another actor that appears repeatedly in the Harlan Coben. We've enjoyed watching them too. Good for Ellie trying something outside her comfort zone. They grow before our eyes. Hope you have a suitable temperatured week next week.
ReplyDeleteI get Lukewarm weeks too. I know what you mean about the same actors appearing in Harlan Coben series. They are good and so are the books I did find them all a bit repetitive after a while. I think books are better than series but Harlan Coben is one exception but I also found the the film A Man Called Otto better than the book A Man Called Ove, I don't know if it's because I'm a Tom Hanks fan, or because it captured his pure heartbreak a lot more. Rambling now. I hope Ellie enjoys her concert and glad she enjoyed her open mic night. Boo has been with her dad a couple of times. She's a good guitarist like her dad but they are both not very good at singing (don't tell them I said that) On the other hand Star has the voice of an angel!
ReplyDeleteLukewarm is a great word to describe your week. February does tend to be a bit of a ‘meh’ month. Nice to try some new recipes. Glad Ellie enjoyed the open mic night. It sounded like it was a fun evening. #WotW
ReplyDeleteThe Open Mic night sounds fun, if she does it again will you go and watch her? #wotw
