How to make the most of your fundraising efforts for the Oxford half marathon....

Fundraising for charity is always a positive thing, and there are plenty of ways to go about it. One great way for the physically agile to raise money for the charity of their choice is to participate in running events, and the Oxford half marathon is no small feat for any feet. There’s no better way to test your endurance and ability while supporting a worthy cause at the same time.

Here, we take a look at five ways to help you get in shape both financially and physically for the Oxford half marathon.

1. Promote your cause

The half marathon is just one of many easy fundraising ideas for you to support a charity you feel most passionate about. The RSPCA allows you to sponsor a number of worthy projects such as the Rehome a Cat project and the Orphan Wildlife Ward, just two of more than a dozen projects to help vulnerable animals. You really can make a difference and feel good about doing your part to achieve something significant by seeinghow your funds will support the overall goal.

2. Tell your friends

Once you’ve decided on a charity, the best way to gain support is to enlist in the aid of your friends. Whether they wish to join in and run by your side or just help you promote the cause, gaining the support of friends or co-workers will motivate you and make you more likely to succeed.

3. Create your page

Never underestimate the importance of creating a page to further promote your event. You can share it on social media including Facebook to make it easier for your friends and supporters to donate.

4. Train hard
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or new to the cause, you’ll need to train as much as you can in order to succeed and the sooner the better. It’s not only about running; you may need to hit the gym to lift some weights and make sure you’re in optimum physical shape to participate.

5. Show your colours

Once you’ve found yourself in good shape physically and financially, you can order t-shirts, hats and blowups for yourself and your friends to build even more visibility to support your charity.

If you’re not a runner or not sure you can endure the distance, you can still support your charity by donating money, cheering on your friends who are participating, and getting involved in all aspects of the fundraising process.
