Share our Lives - My favourite sweet treats!

This month's Share Our Lives linky prompt is: Sweet Tooth Cravings! I am always craving something sweet, I love sweet treats. I love savoury one's too but if I had to pick between the two I will always go for sweet. I have been trying to write this blog post for a month. I came up with the idea to list 10 of my favourite sweet treats and I just couldn't decide on ten and spent plenty of time coming back and changing my list!

Doughnuts

Choc Dips!
Choc Dips consist of crispy breadsticks paired with a small tub of creamy chocolate spread. The idea is to dip the breadsticks into the chocolate making for a fun and tasty snack combination. I remember first eating these when I was really young. My great Aunt used to work at the KP factory and used to always bring my brother and I some when she visited. My girls loved them when they were little and we went years without eating them until we saw them in the shops again last year!

Choc Dip and Terry's Chocolate orange

Terry's Chocolate Orange!
Terry's Chocolate Orange used to be something that I would receive in my Christmas stocking every year, it would be a once a year thing but now I am an adult I have about one a month. Shaped like an orange and made of segments of chocolate flavoured with orange oil, it's not Terry's it's mine!

Mince Pies!
Another Christmas treat, mince pies! I can't wait until November comes around because according the shops in the UK that's when the Christmas season starts. hehehe I am not complaining! I love mince pies!

Coffee shop treats!
It could be Starbucks, Costa or a different coffee shop but the cakes and drinks always taste nicer when you have them somewhere away from home! This time of year I go for a Pumpkin Spice Latte, in a couple of months it will change to the seasonal hot chocolate's that the coffee shops release and in the summer it's the fruity, chilled drinks or an iced coffee.

Coffee shop and cream cakes

The butchers cream cakes!
We have a few independent shops in the town where I love and the butchers do the most amazing cream cakes, even better than the local bakers! The vanilla slices are amazing and the chocolate eclairs are to die for!

Strawberries and cream!
Strawberries are healthy right? hehehe Maybe not when they are covered in sugar to bring the juices out and then covered in double cream! During the summer we have them at least once a week after tea.

Churros!
I love Churros so much that my fella bought me a churro maker a couple of years ago for my birthday! All I have to do is make the mixture and put it in the churro maker and within 15 minutes I have fresh churros! They always taste amazing and are such a treat!

They might be an Easter thing but seem to appear in the shops almost all year around now which is a good thing. A thick, milk chocolate shell filled with a sweet gooey fondant that mimics the appearance of a real egg. I am sure they changed the recipe about 8 or 10 years ago and I went right off them. I tried them again a few years ago and they were more like I remembered.

Ice Cream!
All ice cream is good but an ice cream from the ice cream van is something special. My grandad used to buy my brother and I an ice cream every Sunday from the ice cream man. Always the same, a single cone with a chocolate flake and Monkey's blood. Monkey’s Blood is Northern slang for Strawberry Sauce. This originated from Hartlepool due to hanging a monkey found on a shipwreck during the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century, believing him to be a French spy.

Ice cream and doughnuts

Doughnuts!
I love all doughnuts! I don't think I have ever tried a doughnut that I don't like, well apart from the Pumpkin Spice one I tried last month. It was nice but too sweet. Anyway. Doughnuts come in many flavours and I think my favourites might be the simple jam filled one's or just the sugar coated ring doughnuts.

What are your favourite sweet treats?

  1. I was so puzzled by what mince pies mean when I moved to UK. Bought a pack the first Christmas here and loved them. Now I have mince pies each Christmas and plenty of them before Christmas as well.
Churros are great. A couple of supermarkets sometimes have churros filled with dark chocolate (and are vegan). I love those! If you haven't tried them, do that, they are so good.
