McCain Ready Baked Jackets - Review!!

When I was sent the McCain Ready Baked Jackets to review I was sceptical.....What was the point of having frozen jacket potatoes? Who would spend more money buying microwave jacket potatoes when you can cook normal potatoes in the microwave anyway?

They Say....
Our Ready Baked Jackets have the taste of an oven baked jacket but take a fraction of the time to cook. We just select the best British potatoes, drizzle them with sunflower oil and then slowly bake to perfection. So all you need to do is pop it in the microwave for 5 minutes and add your favourite topping.

They're easy to prepare, you just take them out of the freezer....Remove them from the packaging and microwave them....It took 7 minutes for 2 potatoes cooked at the same time.

The potato was very soft and fluffy on the inside but it was very, very dry so had to add a lot of butter...Not the healthiest of meals.

The skin wasn't crispy like it usually is when they are cooked in the oven but that isn't really a problem for me because I like them both ways...

In Tesco at the moment a pack of two costs £1.65 and a packet of four costs £2.00 which in my opinion is very expensive!! These are a pretty costly way to eat jacket potatoes when you could get a whole bag of potatoes for the same price.....

I won't be buying these simply because of the price.....They do taste good but no different than a regular jacket potato!

I was sent a voucher from BzzAgent to get some McCain Ready Baked Jackets free of charge...This is my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own...

  1. Hmmm I am of the same frame of mind I think - why would you buy a frozen jacket potato when you can cook a fresh one in the microwave - which is cheaper and probably healthier? Odd lol. Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested

  3. I tried these too, but quickly went back to doing them in the microwave, with another 10 minutes in the oven to crisp them up. They do taste nice, and are a quick option, but still prefer the regular jackets.

  4. I have to agree with you that they seem pretty pointless - I can ding a spud in 10 mins if I really need to (though I'd prefer it crisped up in the oven!)

  6. I have recently converted to frozen jacket potatoes (different brand cheaper price) but prefer fresh so much nicer. I only use them occasionally for convenience. #TriedTested

  7. I agree that the potatoes are pretty pricey but if you are at work ect they're easy just to pick up instead of having sandwiches or pasta everyday and I think they have the real bonfire taste about them that you wouldn't just get if you only had a microwave great post! #triedtested

  8. I do like the taste of these and I like that you get that oven baked taste much quicker. I do agree with you about the price though. I occasionally buy them on offer, however, won't pay full price!

  17. No not something I would buy either. I take ordinary potato to microwave at work sometimes when I'm on night shift, but love them cooked in the oven best. #TriedTested

  18. funnily enough, I did an online asda shop the other day. £2 for 4 of these of £1.15 for 4 actual jacket spuds, which take all of 4 more mins to cook in the microwave! x

  19. Thanks for the very honest review! My daughters eat a lot of these at uni as they're quick & always good as a reserve when they're run out of fresh food.

  20. I got into an argument over these potatoes on Facebook a while ago.

I wouldn't buy these when you can cook them fresh in nearly the same amount of time. You said yours took 7 minutes for 2, I could cook 2 in the microwave in 9-10 minutes.

    Thank you for your review
