This week my Word of the Week is: Cold! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Cold

Hasn't it got really cold over the last week! We've had the heating on most evenings and it has been lovely shutting the curtains and getting cosy! Stu has been feeling it on a morning, leaving to get the bus all wrapped up in his winter coat and the other day his scarf and hat came out too. I've been filling my hot water bottle each afternoon and getting under my blanket while I catch up with things on my laptop.

The girls favourite phrase at the moment is "ohh, it's cold". Becky hates the cold and really feels it so has been wrapping up well but it still hasn't convinced Ellie to wear a proper coat when she is out. The other day she was out in a short dress and just a hoodie, I asked her "are you not freezing" and she said she had tights on! lol Like they were going to keep her warm. I suppose I used to be the same when I was her age. I remember going for a night out when it was snowing with just a strappy, short dress on and a pair of heels. Madness! I was in Primark the other day and saw some of the fleecy leggings, they look like tights but have no foot on and are fleece lined. I of course had to buy some to try out and am looking forward to wearing them when it gets really cold.

My dad has been unwell, he caught a cold a few weeks ago and then just as he was getting over that caught another and it really knocked him for six. He is not one to take to his bed but he had a couple of days just sleeping. He was left with a nasty cough and last week even rang the doctors to get an appointment which is so unlike him. The best appointment they could offer was the 25th of this month unless he went to a walk in centre which was a drive away or 2 buses so he has been making do with home made herbal and natural remedies that various people have been dropping off for him and he seems to be over it and is thankfully feeling just about back to his normal self! Phew!

Stu started with a cold on Monday. Ugh! Just a snotty, blocked nose and feeling a little under the weather! I have been trying to stay away from him which has been quite easy as he's been at work during the day, the buses have been running late so he has been getting home until later, he slept downstairs one night and in Becky's bed for another couple of nights while she was at work. I really don't want to catch this cold and so far so good! It's my birthday on Thursday and I don't want to be unwell for that, I have plans.

Yes, you were all right. After feeling down last week I am feeling better this week. I really think it was down to the gloomy, grey weather as this week has been quite bright and sunny, still cold but the sunshine has really lifted my mood.

How has your week been? I hope you have all had a good one! I am of course linking up with Anne who blogs at Raisie Bay for her Word of the Week linky!

  1. The hot water bottle sounds like a good idea. I sometimes use a heating pad when it's really a cold day. A heating pad and cover work well when I'm getting cozy and watching TV. I hope your dad is back to his normal self and that Stu is better too. Saying a little prayer for you and your family. Take care!

  2. I can remember going out clubbing in crop tops in the freezing weather, oh to be young and that confident again. Glad to hear your Dad is on the mend I hope Stu is getting better too. I've been putting the heating on for an hour in the morning and again in the afternoon for the kids coming in from school just to take the chill off. Next week is meant to be even colder so I will be getting the blankets and hot water bottles ready. Have a lovely weekend x

  3. You definitely don't feel the cold so much when you are a teenager and going out with your friends. It's definitely been cold though, but we've been promised snow this week eek! xx

  4. We are happy you are feeling better and have not caught that cold! Please stay clear of it. I hope your birthday goes well too. I'm looking forward to reading all about it. I am thinking a lot aboutU how nice and warm it is here in Florida but soon we will have to face the cold when we return to the UK at the end of this month. BBBBBRRR

  5. It has definitely turned cold – we’ve swapped to winter coats now for the school run. It’s funny how kids and teenagers don’t seem to feel the cold. Sophie tends to carry her coat rather than wear it. Glad your dad is starting to feel better again and hope you manage to avoid getting Stu’s cold. Happy birthday for Thursday. Hope you have a lovely day. #WotW
