Veggie Sausage and Bean Pie - Recipe. #BritishPieWeek

Did you know that it is British Pie week this week? Pies are said to have been invented by the ancient Romans sometime before 2000 B.C. The story goes that a recipe for chicken pie was written on a tablet in Sumer. We love a good pie here. Sweet or savoury there’s a pie for every occasion!

This veggie sausage and bean pie is a simple and quick recipe made with veggie sausages, baked beans and topped with Idahoan Cheddar Cheese Perfect Mash is a real crowd pleaser. We are planning on having it sometime this week!

Veggie Sausage and Bean Pie

We first tried Idahoan mash a couple of years ago and it went down really well with my family. I always have a few packets of different flavours in the cupboard. They're very handy for when you want mash but can't be bothered to peel the potatoes, boil them and then mash them.

Veggie Sausage and Bean Pie - Recipe.

Serves 6 littles ones or 4 adults.

2x packets Idahoan Cheddar Cheese Perfect Mash.
1 pack veggie sausages.
Sunflower oil.
1 onion, diced.
415g can of baked beans.
4 tbsp tomato ketchup.
75g cheddar cheese.

Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F/Gas Mark 5.
Make Idahoan Cheddar Cheese Perfect Mash according to instructions.

Fry the sausages in the oil for 2-3 minutes until golden on the outside, remove from the pan and set aside.

Add the onion and cook until softened approximately 5 minutes. Add beans, ketchup and 80ml of water and simmer for 3-4 minutes. Stir in the sausages.

Place the mixture into an ovenproof dish, top with the mashed potato and top with the grated cheese, bake in a pre-heated oven for 20 minutes 190C, Gas Mark 5.

Serve with steamed green vegetables.
