The best pancake toppings for pancake day!

Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday is one of the most delicious days of the year! It’s the perfect excuse to flip, stack, and smother pancakes with all sorts of tasty toppings. Whether you prefer classic combinations or something a little more adventurous there’s a topping for everyone!

Pancakes

Here are some of the best pancake toppings to try this Pancake Day!

The Classic Lemon and Sugar
You simply can’t beat the traditional lemon and sugar topping. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a generous sprinkle of sugar create the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. It’s nostalgic, simple and absolutely delicious.

Golden Syrup
For a true British classic, golden syrup is a must. This is my favourite! That thick, sticky sweetness drizzling over a warm pancake is pure heaven. If you want to go all out add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.

Nutella and Banana
Chocolate and banana are a match made in pancake heaven. Spread a generous layer of Nutella over your pancake and top with sliced bananas for a rich, creamy, and slightly healthy(ish) treat.

Maple Syrup and Bacon
If you love a sweet and savoury combination this one’s for you. Crispy bacon paired with smooth, sweet maple syrup creates a mouth watering mix of flavours. It’s a favourite for those who enjoy a little American influence on Pancake Day.

Berries and Cream
For a fresh and fruity option pile your pancakes high with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries or all three! Add a dollop of whipped cream or Greek yogurt to make it even more delicious. This one feels fancy but is super easy to put together.

Lotus Biscoff Spread and Crushed Biscuits
Biscoff lovers, this is your moment! Spread that caramelised goodness over your pancake and sprinkle crushed Biscoff biscuits on top for an extra crunch. It’s rich, indulgent and utterly irresistible.

Peanut Butter and Jam
This one’s for the peanut butter fans. The classic PB&J combination works wonderfully on pancakes, giving you a mix of sweet, salty and nutty goodness. Go for smooth or crunchy peanut butter depending on your preference.

Chocolate Chips and Marshmallows
For an ultra-sweet treat, try scattering chocolate chips and mini marshmallows over your pancake. If you give it a quick blast under the grill the marshmallows turn all gooey and melty like a pancake s’mores!

Apple and Cinnamon
For a cosy twist cook some sliced apples with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a little brown sugar. The warm, spiced apples pair beautifully with soft pancakes making this a comforting and delicious choice.

Savoury Cheese and Ham
Pancakes don’t have to be sweet! A savoury option like melted cheese and ham is a great alternative if you fancy something different. Add a little Dijon mustard for an extra kick of flavour.

Honey and Greek Yogurt
For a light and refreshing option drizzle honey over your pancake and add a spoonful of Greek yogurt. It’s a simple yet satisfying combination that works well as a slightly healthier choice.

What do you like on your pancakes?

  1. These are all great ideas! I don't eat pancakes often at all. When I do, sometimes all I add is some butter. It's sort of like buttered toast but better :). I do like your suggestions- very creative.

  2. I hardly ever have pancakes but that's probably because I only eat them plain with a bit of butter.

  3. Happy pancake day! I have always gone with the traditional lemon and sugar as a topping, somehow nothing else tastes right to me. The kids love having maple syrup or chocolate sauce on theirs. Fingers crossed our pancakes turn out right this evening.
