Five places I want to visit here in Northumberland.

I have lived in Northumberland the most northern county of England for about 8 years now and we have visited quite a few place but after watching Tales from Northumberland with Robson Green on Monday night and it makes me realise how much of Northumberland I haven't yet seen.....

These are the places I want to visit!!

In 1878 Cragside was the first house in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity, powered by generators on the estate. The property reveals a wealth of gadgets including fire alarm buttons, the first dishwasher, telephones, a passenger lift and a Turkish bath suite. The estate has more than 30 miles of footpaths and lakeside walks as well as a rhododendron maze and a waterfall...

Barter Books - Alnwick

One of the largest second hand bookshops in Europe is situated in the historic town of Alnwick. It opened in 1991 in a grand old Victorian railway station. Inside the building you will find the orginal waiting rooms with roaring fires and places to sit and browse the books. It is said Barter Books sell over 3,000 books per week and have a stock of over 300,000. As well as all the books there is the Station Buffet which serves delicious comfort food....A model railway and much more....

After being forgotten for more than half a century, a rare "Keep Calm and Carry On" WWII poster was rediscovered in a box of old books bought at auction here...The owners had the poster framed and put up in the shop...Customer interest was so great that in 2001 the couple started producing copies for sale which were soon copied and recopied to make of the Keep Calm poster one of the first truly iconic images of the 21st century.

The Farne Islands

The Farne Islands lie two to three miles off the Northumberland Coast midway between the fishing village of Seahouses and Bamburgh castle....As well as being the most famous Sea Bird Sanctuary in the British Isles they also have a large colony of Atlantic or Grey Seals.... Boat trips to the Farne Islands leave from Seahouses Harbour and generally last around two and a half hours.

Alnwick Castle.

Alnwick Castle is one of the most beautiful Castles in the UK and it's a great day out for the entire family. They offer tours that reveal the history of the Castle from Harry Hotspur to Harry Potter! The Castle has also been used in films such as Elizabeth and more recently in the TV show Downton Abbey.....The Duke and Duchess of Northumberland still live in the Castle as their family has for hundreds of years..... They offer an exciting calendar of activities and events including hands-on workshops, theatrical falconry magic and re-enactments.

 Northumberlandia - Near Cramlington.

Northumberlandia is a unique piece of public art set in a 46 acre community park with free public access and 4 miles of footpaths on and around the land form....
