Summer is over....

The kids went back to school yesterday which means summer is officially over! How did those six and a bit weeks go so quickly?

It has been a strange summer for me.....At the beginning of the summer holidays Ellie's little friend came and knocked for her to play out and I let her...I cut the apron strings and over the holidays the girls played out lots....I suppose it was good for them and me but there was times when I missed doing things with them....

This is the first holidays where they have mostly done their own thing....Previous holidays I used to plan activities. Crafts, days out, movie days and fun things....It seems like for the past 6 weeks I haven't really been needed which has left me feeling a little sad that my girls are growing up.

Before the holidays even started I had all these plans and made a bucket list for the summer....Looking back at it now I don't feel like we wasted the summer we did quite a few things on the list....

We did make bath bombs....Not quite what I imagined but we got a kit from what2buy4 kids....I have a blog post coming soon.....

We did the Skittles Experiment and it worked out well....Made Ice Cream cupcakes and they worked out better than I imagined and we cheated making mug cakes. We bought the Dr. Oetker one's. The girls and I did play the Sims 4 for most of a day. Ellie had a great idea of making a whole town filled with Disney Princesses....

We did make an effort to go out every Tuesday....Our town has a market on which we had a look around and also had a look around all the charity shops too....Becky picked up 2 Emoji cushions up for £2 and Ellie got a few sets of clothes for her dolls....

We had a few movie days....I introduced the kids to The Mighty Ducks and we watched A Dogs Purpose. If you need something to laugh and cry to this is the film....

We didn't do many outdoor things as a family but the girls went out lots. They went shopping themselves for the first time. Just to our local Poundland but they thought it was brilliant. They went to the park and even had a picnic with their friends in our back yard....

We didn't end up going to Primark shopping but I did do a bit of online shopping.....Ellie got a ton of unicorn clothes for her birthday and Becky has some clothes coming too for her birthday on Sunday.

We had a fantastic summer....To some it may not seem like we have done much but after a stressful school year it was just what we needed to relax and unwind....It has been the start of a new way of life for me....Where my girls need me a little less and a new life for them where they have gained some independence and grown up a little more....It doesn't feel right and I think it will take some getting used. My girls are growing up and the summer's of planned activities seem long behind us.

  2. Sounds perfect Kim - love that the girls went shopping by themsleves. Harry and Heidi went to Aldi to buy our lunch for the first time by themselves - they brought back some interesting combinations!

  3. I totally understand how you feel. Our girls are around the same ages so we're experiencing these things at the same time and like you, I'm a little sad that they're growing so fast.

  4. Your summer sounds super busy but also like a lot of fun. It's always interesting to manage work life balance in the summer when you have so much family time. Those cupcakes look delicious!
