The Children's Foundation - Santa's Letters.

The Children’s Foundation is a North East children's charity set up in 1990 with the vision of giving children and young people in the North East & North Cumbria the best health and well being services in the UK.

Last year The Children's Foundation directly helped, involved or affected the lives of 29,000 children across the North East.

Currently the key projects in hospitals include The Clown Doctor Programme, the installation of V-pods and providing other tools such as sensory equipment when required.

V-Pods are used to relieve pain and distress in children who are undergoing routine but unpleasant medical procedures. They use extended 3-D to distract children from something unpleasant that is happening to them. Extended 3-D is particularly effective at absorbing children’s attention as images appear to leave the screen and pass past the children’s eyes and ears.

The Clown Doctor programme is at several North East hospitals. Over the past two years, they have interacted with over 2,000 children, siblings and their families. The Clown Doctors work with children aged 6 months to 16 years and within a wide range of medical departments wherever there are young people.

This year The Children’s Foundation are back giving Santa a little helping hand with his post bag and helping parents keep the magic of Christmas alive!

Christmas is a time of giving and sharing with those around us but that sharing is not limited to those that we love and care for. It is also for the person that we have never met and will never see.

The Childrens Foundation are recruiting festive elves to volunteer to wrap gifts and sprinkle festive cheer at Christmas gift wrapping stations in Eldon Square and The Bridges Shopping Centres AND they are looking for festive volunteers to help out at our Christmas collections and carol singing by collecting donations from the public as school choirs spread some festive cheer in shopping centres across the region.

Please email childrens.foundation@nuth.nhs.uk if you are interested in getting involved.
