No matter how hard you try, there always seems to be a surplus of chocolate left over after Easter. The kids got quite a few on Sunday and to be honest I think it will take a few weeks to eat them all. There is also the case of the shops are trying to get rid of all their Easter-themed stock. Meaning: loads of chocolate is really, really cheap, just because it’s in the shape of an egg.
Here's a few idea's of what you can do with those left over eggs!
Rice Krispie or Cornflake cakes.
An oldie but a goldie. Simple melt a couple of Easter eggs down and mix with cereals such as Rice Krispies or Corn Flakes. It’s a great, easy recipe to get young children ‘baking’ in the kitchen for the first time. You can also decorate with smaller eggs for a double chocolate fix!
Packed with biscuits, sultanas, puffed rice and lots of chocolate, these refrigerator bars are ideal for a kids' party.
Chocolate lollipops.
Lollipop moulds are always useful to have in the cupboard. Simply melt the chocolate, pour it into the mould, and leave to set in the fridge for around 30 minutes. Once set, remove the lollipops and dip them into melted chocolate, followed by sprinkles or edible glitter for a great effect.
You don’t need much to make this treat, just some Creme Eggs, some ice cream and milk and you’re ready to go.
Chocolate mousse.
Whip up a pot of Double Cream and add melted chocolate to the mixture, carefully folding it in before allowing it to settle in the fridge for thirty to forty minutes.
Easy chocolate trifle.
Double cream, muffins, milk chocolate! YUM!
A Fun Fondue.
Melt down the eggs, add a teaspoon of vegetable oil and melt in a bowl over a gently simmering pan. Cut up some yummy fruit. Strawberries, kiwi fruit, mango and bananas, marshmallows too. Stab them with some toothpicks or a fork and dip them in the chocolate.
Chocolate-Covered Bananas.
This dessert treat combines the healthy benefits of bananas and chocolate. It's a great way to get some fruit into the kids.
Chocolate Drizzled Popcorn
Have a family movie night tradition? Surprise them with a chocolate drizzle on their bowl of popcorn! Sometimes the best thing to do with excess chocolate is melt it and put it on everything!!
Do you have many left over Easter eggs?
Mmmm....

ReplyDeleteThanks for this great post. The chocolate mousse sounds delicious, so do the chocolate covered bananas. I'm probably going to make chocolate chip cookies with our leftovers :)
