My favourite Christmas food and drinks!

When it comes to Christmas food in the UK, the season isn’t just about traditional roast turkey dinners and puddings it’s also about those little indulgences that capture the joy and warmth of the festive season!

sweet christmas treats

Festive Sandwiches!
Supermarkets and cafes like Tesco, Asda & M&S bring out limited edition festive sandwiches at this time of year and I love it! Think turkey with stuffing and cranberry sauce, brie and cranberry, or even vegan nut roast wraps. These sandwiches offer a taste of Christmas in every bite and are perfect for on the go lunches during the holiday rush.

Pigs in Blankets!
No Christmas dinner is complete without pigs in blankets. These bite sized sausages wrapped in crispy bacon are a favourite side dish. We love them so much that I always cook them before and after Christmas day to enjoy as a snack!

Baileys Hot Chocolate!
When the cold winter nights draw in there’s nothing more comforting than a steaming mug of Baileys Hot Chocolate. This indulgent drink combines creamy Baileys Irish Cream with velvety hot chocolate, topped with whipped cream and of course marshmallows!

Greggs Festive Bake!
If there’s one thing Brits eagerly look forward to as Christmas approaches, it’s the return of the Greggs Festive Bake! This pastry has achieved cult status and it’s easy to see why. Encased in a buttery, flaky pastry shell lies a magical filling of succulent chicken, sage and onion stuffing, sweet cured bacon and a creamy sage and cranberry sauce. I always have a few in the run up to Christmas and they are one of my favourite savoury treats!

Festive Bake and Bucks fizz

Bucks Fizz!
Nothing says festive indulgence quite like a glass of Bucks Fizz. Made with two parts sparkling wine and one part orange juice has become a breakfast staple on Christmas morning. The origins of Bucks Fizz date back to 1921 when it was first created at London’s Buck’s Club.

Gingerbread houses!
We make a gingerbread house or two every December! They are fun to put together and then of course eat! Ours are not just for decoration!

Christmas Cake
Fruitcake might not be everyone’s favourite but a traditional Christmas cake often soaked in brandy and topped with marzipan and icing is a true festive showstopper.

A Cheese Board!
A Christmas cheese board is a highlight of the festive season. Featuring a selection of British favourites like Stilton, mature Cheddar, and Wensleydale with cranberries, it’s served with crackers, chutney, and maybe even a slice of Christmas cake for a sweet and savoury pairing.

Terry’s Chocolate Orange!
This zesty, chocolatey sphere may technically be available year round, but it feels tied to Christmas. Whether it’s unwrapping one in your stocking or sharing slices with family, Terry’s Chocolate Orange is a festive favourite I look forward to all year!

Terry’s Chocolate Orange and mince pies

Mince Pies!
No list of Christmas foods would be complete without the beloved mince pie. These buttery pastries, filled with a spiced mixture of dried fruits brandy, and sugar are a festive staple. Whether store bought or homemade they go so well with a Baileys hot chocolate!

What is your favourite food over Christmas?

  2. Gregg's have a vegan festive bake and I wanted to try it, but I haven't found any. These are selling out fast and I imagine they are not baking loads of them either.
I am also looking forward to the mince pies.

  3. Sadly I’m put off rich & sweet foods now. After a serious Gallbladder attack completely out of the blue October I was on a very low fat no sugar, salt or processed food diet for 9 weeks pre-surgery. Now my Gallbladder has been taken out I’m still put off those foods as the pain was huge. I miss chocolate the most but not as much as I thought I would. Wishing you & your family a very Happy Christmas!

  5. Merry Christmas, Kim! I've been woefully behind on blog reading and commenting but I couldn't let this one pass by - all my favorites!

  6. We have Bucks Fizz for Christmas day, although I can't take my drink much anymore. Love a TCO - but they're so pricy nowadays and I'm too much of a cheapskate with how fast I can eat one. Cheese and crackers is what we always used to have for Christmas day tea when we were kids.

  7. Oooh, some of my favorite British Christmas treats. My 5-year old grandson is in an International school in the UK right now and they made mince pies at school which was fun. I appreciated your comment on my blog. I'm the same about being glad to have it to look back on and help me remember lots of things, but Christmas decor for sure! Have a nice week!

  8. My mouth is watering reading this! Christmas sandwiches and Greggs Festive Bakes are top of my list of must haves this time of year. Aldi do a nice dupe of the festive bake, they are frozen so you can still indulge after Christmas.
