This week my Word of the Week is: Return! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

This week we have returned to some sort of normal. Ellie went back to school on Monday and so far it's gone well, in fact it has went better than I could have ever imagined.

The kids returning to school this time around feels different. When they went back in September it felt like we just had to hope for the best when the kids were told to social distance and that was about it. Now the school is doing everything they can to keep the kids safe with testing, wearing masks and the teachers moving around the school to different classrooms instead of the kids.

I was worried about Ellie returning to school as she was moved up a set in January away from all of her best friends but she is loving it despite not really knowing anyone in her new class. She still gets to see her friends from the other class with all they breaks they are getting. I spent all day fretting about her but if I had just looked at her best friends Instagram account I would have seen she was having a great time, messing about in the playground with her friends.

At home Ellie was struggling with some of the school work she was doing, French and maths but being in school with the teacher there to help has been fantastic for her. She is feeling more confident about the work. She is dreading today though, she will have to get up in assembly to collect her prize for the Design & Technology project. I knew it was good but didn't think she'd come in the top 10 in the year, the outstanding group. I am so proud of her.

Becky has got a return date for college, finally! She is itching to get back now. She will only be in for one day at the moment with 2 days home learning but I am looking forward to that one day a week when I can be home alone.

Another bit of normal which has returned is having workmen here. Out back door hasn't been great over the last year. It was draughty and leaked a little and it has been on the landlords list of things to do but never got around to it. On Tuesday someone came to replace out back door and the new one is fantastic. The walls around the door still need plastering but already we can feel the difference. It's so much warmer in the kitchen and even with the wind we had yesterday there was hardly any draughts which seemed crazy considering there is gaps which need filling.

I know we are way off returning to the life we had before Coronavirus but this week has felt like a step in the right direction and I've just heard on the news that next month will see the start of the over 40's being vaccinated. That is me! Hooray!

What have you been up to this week?

  1. I'm so glad that the return to school has gone well for Ellie and that it helps having her teachers around to help with the subjects she finds more difficult. A huge well done to her on her Design & Technology project - that's a fabulous achievement. Glad that Becky has a return date for college too and that your new back door has made such a difference. #WotW

  2. It sounds like Ellie is doing incredibly well, no wonder you are so proud of her. I know what you mean about draughty doors, my patio doors are terrible for draughts and I have to have them adjusted every year. That's one of the reasons I would like a small conservatory, just to stay warmer! Your new back door looks lovely x

  4. Well done Ellie for her project and taking the change in classes so well. We always fret, while they are getting on with it all. It's good that Becky has her back to college date at last. I'm glad the new door is working out. It is amazing what a difference it can make. I've got my jab booked in for the end of the month. Just having the date feels like a step towards opening up life a bit more. #wotw
