This week my Word of the Week is: Shower! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Shower

For once I am not talking about rain! lol It's actually been quite dry here this week, well apart from the snow we woke up to on Sunday Morning which was lovely. It lasted a day and was gone by Monday so caused no disruptions for us at all.

We finally have a shower which works! Hooray! It's been a long time coming! When we moved in here, almost four and a half years ago the landlord said they would get one fitted but then Covid happened and everything was put on hold. There was no rush. Earlier this year we had a very nice looking shower fitted which you can see in one of my Project 365 posts in March. It was to run from a pipes from the hot and cold tap which was great in theory but there wasn't enough water pressure to push the water through. The old boiler was blamed. In May we got a new boiler after the old one packed up and it made no difference to the shower. Ugh so the landlord agreed to put an electric shower in which was great apart from we needed a new fuse box as the one we had was ancient. That was replaced a couple of months ago and we were all set to get the new shower but then we got the wasps nest which was near where the cable for the shower was going to go. That was dealt with but then other things came up. It would have been nicer it being put in during the summer, I have been freezing this week with the front and back door opening and shutting.

Finally this week progress was made! My brother and dad came to sort out a little leak on the bathroom roof on Monday which was caused by us when we were trying to find the wasps nest a couple of months ago and while my brother was in the loft he removed the dead wasps nest. It turns out he is even more scared of wasps than I am, even dead one's which he found a lot of in the loft. The nest was huge and the little swine's had built it under the insulation, that's why we struggled to find it when we were looking.

On Tuesday it was plumbing day. The old shower was removed and a new piece of wall was put up to cover the holes, pipes needed moving or whatever they did, the stopcock was fixed as it was leaking, cables were put in place and goodness knows what else was done, I tried to stay out of the way. On Wednesday morning it was all about the electrics, the shower was wired in and finally the moment came to switch it on. It took a bit of fiddling to find out how to control it because why would I bother reading the instructions. lol

It's the simple things like showers which make life a little easier. I started cooking tea the other night, put everything in the oven and on the hob, jumped in the shower and was out in time to carry on making tea. 20 minutes it took from going in the bathroom to getting back in the kitchen. It would have taken me that long to run a bath and get in it. lol It's going to be a real time saver.

Last time we had a shower, in our old house we didn't have a smart meter so it was a bit of a shock seeing how expensive they are. £2 something an hour, obviously we won't be in for an hour at a time but we all had a shower on Wednesday and it didn't actually cost that much more. Ugh! I think I am going to have to get a timer to make sure the kids don't spend too long in it. I will warn them if they take too long I will switch it off at the fuse box. hehehe

How has your week been? I hope you have had a good one!

  1. Lovely post as usual. Glad your shower is sorted and it must be so quick now to get in, get cleaned, and get out. Have a great week ahead.

  2. Oh how lovely to have a new shower installed. We keep meaning to get a new one - ours has always been rubbish and runs lukewarm, which is fine in the summer but not great in the winter. It makes such a difference when you have a decent shower and so much quicker than running the bath. Glad you got the wasps nest removed as well! #WotW

  3. After reading all that I can see why having a shower installed is such a big thing. I really miss having a bath but the last time I had one was the day I got sick, I was no longer able to get in or out the bath. We were lucky to have two showers already but the Occupational Therapist told us that I would be better off with a wet room and the bath had to go. So now, no-one can have a bath. The wet room is well received though, the other shower doesn't get used at all now.

  5. Hooray for a new shower! I jump in the shower and I’m done in a flash. My younger son doesn’t take too long but when the older one lived at home. He would take such long showers and sometimes use up all the hot water!!! Grrr
