This week my Word of the Week is: Grumpy. #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Grumpy

I don't usually like to share negative words as my word of the week but this week I have been in such a grumpy mood, I've had no motivation and everything has felt a bit blah! It's not all bad though, in my negativity there is some positives.

Becky was full of cold last week and on Thursday night she started to feel rotten again. We ordered a PCR test as we were concerned it could be Covid despite about 20 negative lateral flow tests. She rang in sick to work on Friday night which they weren't happy about but that is a whole different story. Thankfully by Saturday morning she was feeling better and had happily shared her cold with me or so I thought. I woke up not feeling great with a snotty nose, sneezes and a head which felt like it was made of cotton wool. Anyway Becky took her PCR test and it came back negative. Phew!

Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning I had woken up feeling rotten but by late afternoon I seemed to shake whatever I had off. I was starting to think I was just run down until I realised the bedroom window was still closed. Even in the winter I like it open, even during the night and after opening it on Monday night I woke on Tuesday feeling fine. Something as simple as a stuffy bedroom was making me feel rotten. I think worrying about Becky being poorly, then me thinking I was poorly has stressed me out and not helped with my mood.

On Tuesday the weather was rotten. It was cold and grey and by the afternoon it felt like the latest storm had hit. Of course it was the one evening that we had to go out. Ellie had her first parents evening since we moved here! It was brilliant and I will be writing more about it in a post next week but despite everything over the last couple of years Ellie is predicted to get decent GCSE grades in most subjects.

There was then the news about all the parties that Boris may or may not have had last year. Grr! It has made me so angry, it really feels like it's one rule for us and another for them. I have been a big supporter of all the restrictions to keep us safe but now it just seems like the newest rules were brought in to cover up the scandal as quite a few make no sense like work from home but go to your Christmas party and wear a mask at church but you don't have to at a nightclub. Ugh. I think if Boris tries to cancel Christmas with more new rules there will be riots.

I get like this most years in the run up to Christmas. I have got to the point now where all the presents are bought and most of them are wrapped, all the plans have been made, I've started adding things to the online shop and there's not much to do. I am not going out much as the weather hasn't been great and the local auction has been closed. I just need a a bit of different to bring me out of this grump.

I have resubscribed to Netflix and am on with watching all the Christmas films which will hopefully make me feel a bit more cheery and next week we have our last trip into town before Christmas. Ellie has a hearing test at the hospital so we're going to have a look around the shops on the way home.

How has your week been?

  1. aww I'm sorry you have been feeling grumpy, this horrid weather doesn't help. Good that Ellie is doing well in school though. We don't really have parties or big family get togethers at Christmas anyway, but these new restrictions do seem strange to say the least. I think old Boris is trying to stop people from feeling angry by allowing them to have fun, but at the cost of restrictions on those that are most likely to follow them. xx

  2. I hope you're feeling less grumpy by now! It sounds like you have had a whole lot sorted for Christmas already. And I wonder if this is the year I will get into watching Christmas films? Don't even think I've watched one before. I usually fall asleep when watching a movie! lol. Have a great weekend.

  3. I find I get really excited about Christmas those first few weeks right after Thanksgiving and then by actual Christmas arrival I am less enthused.

  4. I think a lot of people are grumpy this week with the news. But I do think a lot of it is because we have so much to do and so many plans in the run up to Christmas! #MMBC

  5. Oh no, I hope you are feeling better now mate. The pressure of getting things sorted for Christmas can tire you out on its own.
I'm sure the Christmas movies are helping, we've been watching loads. xx

  6. Sorry to hear that you have had a grumpy week and have been feeling a bit rotten as well. Glad that Becky is on the mend and that the PCR was negative. The news has made a lot of people angry recently. It isn't right that it seems to be one rule for us and another for those in power - of all people, they should be the ones making the effort to stick to the rules! The new rules do seem to be a bit daft in some respects. Well done to Ellie on such a great report at parents' evening. Hope that this week will be a better one for you x #WotW
