This week my Word of the Week is:
For most of the week I've been either in the kitchen or thinking about it. We have been decorating in there and it has been a week long job!
When we moved in here over 5 years ago we had lots of plans for the house and top of our list was to decorate the kitchen. It was tatty and dated. Over the years we have painted the walls and that's about it. It was my least favourite room in the house so we decided to just get it done. Stu had ordered all of the paint, DIY things that we needed so we were ready to get started this week!
I was fuming about the paint when it first went on, it's a teal colour and it looked so dark. Stu kept telling me to trust him and the process and he was right. When the paint had dried it was much lighter! Phew!
I didn't think we needed the new strip lights in the kitchen but it turns out we did, LED lights are so much brighter than the old one's we had. It is so much brighter in there now. Ellie took charge when Stu was putting them up, she's training to be an electrician after all. Of course it should have been a straightforward job. Turn the electric off, remove the old one's and wire the new one's up but our house is old and the wires are so it took a while, a couple of Youtube videos with instructions but Stu got there eventually.
We got the first 4 cupboard doors painted and they were outside drying when I thought it had started raining, turns out it wasn't rain, it was hailstones!! I went running outside to recuse the cupboard doors, thankfully they didn't get too wet and ruin all of our hard work. That put a stop to our work as there just wasn't enough room in the kitchen to carry on painting more of the doors. When they had dried Stu put them back up and we had a good idea how the kitchen is going to turn out! Fabulous! So bright and it looks so much lighter in there! I love it already! It's amazing what a lick of paint can do!
As of yesterday there are still a couple of cupboards to paint and some white glossing to do but we're almost at the finish line. Hooray! Then I can get on with buying pretty things which match the new blue colour on the walls. hehehe
How has your week been? I hope you have had a good one!
Those cabinets look amazing! I agree: it's amazing what a coat of paint will do for a space.
ReplyDeleteThe little glimpses of the decorating look good – I like the teal colour and the cupboards look so fresh having been painted. Glad you managed to rescue them when it started hailing! #WotW
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the finish line!
ReplyDeleteI like the colours! Isn't it sods law that it hailed when your cupboards were drying outside! Glad you managed to rescue them. Karen - Early Rising Mum
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you! Somethimes just changing up the colours and adding brighter lights can work wonders. Well done to you all on a fabulous job. I know it wasn't all easy as we have had that experience, but of course it is so worth it.
ReplyDeleteOh what a transformation. I love the colour you chose!
ReplyDeleteI don't envy you painting the kitchen unit doors. We did it back at our old house and it was hard work! Yours look amazing, they look brand new. xx
Painting the cupboards has made such a difference! Good luck with the rest of the painting, I hope that the weather is kind to you!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing and I love the colour scheme. Much cheaper than having a complete new kitchen installed too. xx
ReplyDeleteI love the grey - it looks more modern than the dark wood. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures when you've finished :)

Love the blue and the pale colour cupboards look great against it. We've got horrible old fashioned pine colour cupboards, and the whole kitchen really needs ripping out as so much of it is falling to pieces.
