This week my Word of the Week is:
I have been on a bit of a health kick for the last few weeks since getting a cross trainer from my local auction for £15. I was going on it 4 days a week until this week. I'm not injured or anything bad but I got myself a treadmill from the local auction too and I have been using that!
The treadmill is obviously 2nd hand but it's something that Stu and I have fancied owning but have never had a spare few hundred pound to buy one. I got it for £15.
I had a good idea of downloading the Couch to 5K app and trying to do that. I have heard lots about Couch to 5K and how hard could it be. hahaha I stupidly thought that I would breeze at least through the first day, well that didn't happen even with the encouragement from Sarah Millican who is one of the voices you can pick to tell you when to walk and when to run.
I made it halfway through the first day before I thought I was either going to throw up or pass out. It didn't put me off though, it made me even more determined. I tried again on Tuesday and yesterday I had to give up on the run before the final walk but that isn't bad considering I'd been out all morning, walking.
I have learned not to walk and run too fast, speed walking and running at 8/9 miles per hour is no good for me when I am just starting out especially when I was too scared to let go of the hand rails. I have got over that fear so the running is a little easier.
On the first day I just listened to the radio which was OK when the music was on but I lost motivation when there was adverts or talking. I have since put some of my favourite music albums onto my phone so I can listen to them. I do find it easier to run when I am singing along in my head. I don't have enough breath to sing out loud and run. lol
I am not at the stage where I am loving running but at the same time I am not hating it like I thought I would.
How has your week been?
Good luck with the running! I love running although I've slacked off a bit over the holidays. What I like is that you can really see your progress quite quickly in terms of time and distance if you keep at it regularly. We've had a really nice week, quite quiet but I've had a couple of trips with the kids swimming and to the beach which we've all enjoyed.
ReplyDeletea tread mill sounds like a lot of fun. Glad you managed to work out how to stop it with a bit of ribbon. I glad at the thought of you flying off the end
ReplyDeleteWow! I did see on your socials about starting with the equipment. Well done, you! I am having serious thoughts about giving exercising a serious go again. I don't think I can manage running but I do love fast walking on the treadmill. My boobs can't manage the running. Will be sure to post about how we get on in September when we start (that's when the kids go off to university so we wont have any junk in the house.) Wish us luck.
ReplyDeleteAnd good luck to you too.
Now that is a bargain. I've never been on a treadmill, but it must beat dodging cyclists and vans along our lane. I'm at the stage of liking running and kind of looking forward to it. You're right about changing your pace. I'm definitely running further by slowing my pace a bit. Running was nearly my word of the week! #wotw
ReplyDeleteWay to go! I am trying to get motivated to use our treadmill more often; I know that once the cold weather comes I need to find something to do indoors.
ReplyDeleteI've never been on a treadmill! Even when I could walk. You got a real bargain there, well, with both of your auction buys. x
ReplyDeleteThat sounds a bargain and great idea of yours to start with an app. I've never owned any proper exercise equipment but I got into running about 4 years ago. I have no ambition to do anything long distance but I do enjoy plodidng along at the back of parkrun and am happy that it has finally restarted
ReplyDeleteWow, you certainly scored a bargain there getting a treadmill at just 15 pounds. I'm so glad you have been using it so much. I have an elliptical too but would definitely rather want a treadmill. #MMBC
ReplyDeleteWell done you on all your efforts to get fitter. £15 is a bargain for a treadmill. I've never managed to complete Couch to 5k - the first few sessions are about all I've ever managed so good luck with that and well done for persevering. Exercise is definitely easier when you've got some good music to listen to while working out. #WotW
ReplyDeleteWell done for finding such a bargain! I'm doing the Couch to 5K on the treadmill we got to. It took me about three attempts to actually start it. My legs were shouting at me 'What are you doing!' We are only doing it on days off but I start week 3 tomorrow #WotW
