(Ad - Gifted) Premium award winning Italian wine from Independent Wine!

I do love a few of glasses of wine over the weekend. On a Friday night I will have a glass, it's a great way to end the week and on a Saturday evening a couple more while I am relaxing with my fella usually in front of the TV. There doesn't have to be a special occasion to enjoy a nice bottle of wine but over the weekend it did feel special as I was lucky to be sent a gorgeous premium award winning Italian wine from Independent Wine to try.

I hadn't heard of the company Independent Wine before writing this blog post but they are they UK’s leading specialist in award winning Italian wine and stock over 140 Italian wines that have won top awards.

Siddura Erema 2018 Cannonau di Sardegna DOC

I was sent a bottle of the Siddura Erema 2018 - Cannonau di Sardegna DOC, a powerful wine with aromas of fresh and spiced berries, made from Sardinia’s signature black grape.

This wine is made from Cannonau, a black grape varietal thought to be the most ancient in the Mediterranean. It is super-charged with anti-oxidants and is a key element of the famous Sardinian diet. The grapes for this wine were harvested by hand, and left to macerate for two weeks then fermented in stainless tanks at a controlled temperature. After this it was matured sur lee to develop texture and more complex flavours. The wine was then aged in large oak barrels for 12 months and bottled in the winter of 2019.

Located in the north of Sardinia, Siddùra is recognised as one of the highest-achieving Italian wineries. As well as planting Sardinia’s signature grapes, Cannonau and Vermentino, they also grow Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. Every year since 2013 they have won Decanter Gold, Silver, Bronze and Platinum medals as well as countless awards in Germany, Belgium, Austria and other countries.

Wine opened, the cork

Tasting notes: Deep ruby colour with powerful aromas of wild berries and cherry, as well as spicy black pepper. Dry and fresh, with high acidity. Full-bodied, with smooth rounded tannins. A long and silky finish.

I am not going to pretend I am a wine expert but I know what I like and I liked this. Usually I am not a fan of red wine, I prefer Rose but this was good. It wasn't bitter like other red wines that I have tasted and was quite easy to drink.

After drinking this wine I think I might be converted to red. It really did have more flavour than my usual Rose.

The bottle that I was sent is on offer at the moment for £18.45 and Independent Wine offer free next day delivery, free gift wrap and a customised card with any order. It is something to think about if you are planning on buying a gift for someone.

Do you enjoy a glass of wine? What type do you like?

I was sent a bottle of Siddura Erema 2018 - Cannonau di Sardegna DOC free of charge in exchange for this blog post.

  1. I also enjoy a glass of wine on the weekends and red wine is my favourite. I have tasted some really bitter reds that I haven't enjoyed in the past but this one sounds like it would be lovely and smooth to drink.
