Staycation ideas for a fun summer at home!

Summer is here! The sun is shining (occasionally) and the days are longer. While the idea of jetting off to exotic locations is appealing sometimes the best holiday is the one where you don't have to pack a suitcase. A staycation is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the comforts of home while still making the most of the summer. With a little creativity and planning you can turn your home into the ultimate holiday destination. Here are some fantastic ways to enjoy summer without having to go anywhere!

Garden Glamping
Transform your garden into a luxurious glamping site. Set up a tent, string up some fairy lights and pile on the cushions and blankets. Enjoy a night under the stars with a cosy fire pit for marshmallow toasting. Don’t forget a good book or a playlist of your favourite summer tunes.

A Barbecue Bash!
Nothing says summer like a barbecue. Fire up the grill and indulge in some classic barbecue goodness. Think burgers, sausages and veggie skewers, you don't have to do anything really fancy but a few years ago I shared some delicious BBQ recipes. Invite your neighbours or just enjoy a quiet meal with your family.

An Outdoor Movie Night!
Bring the cinema experience to your backyard. All you need is a projector, a white sheet and a comfy seating arrangement. Pop some popcorn, gather your favourite snacks and settle in for a movie marathon. Choose a theme like classic comedies, action packed adventures or a Harry Potter binge.

Create a Home Spa!
Turn your bathroom into a personal spa retreat. Run a hot bath with essential oils, light some candles and play soothing music. Treat yourself to a face mask, a deep conditioning hair treatment and a mani-pedi. End the session with a refreshing cucumber water and some quiet time to relax.

A Virtual Travel Experience!
Travel the world from the comfort of your couch with virtual tours and experiences. Many museums, zoos, and famous landmarks offer online tours. Explore the British Museum, take a virtual walk around the Tower of London, or even visit the National Gallery.

Cook Up a Storm!
Channel your inner chef and try cooking dishes from around the world. Plan themed dinner nights: Italian pasta, Mexican tacos, Japanese sushi or Indian curry. Get the whole family involved in the kitchen for a fun and delicious activity.

Garden Games Galore!
Turn your garden into a playground with a variety of games. Set up a badminton net, play a game of croquet or have a friendly competition of giant Jenga. For a more relaxed pace, lay out a picnic blanket and play board games or card games outdoors.

Read and Relax!
Take advantage of the sunny weather to catch up on your reading. Set up a comfy chair or hammock in the garden and lose yourself in a good book. If you prefer audiobooks, plug in your headphones and let someone else read to you while you soak up the sun.

A DIY Craft Day!
Unleash your creativity with a DIY craft day. Whether it's painting, knitting or making homemade candles. A day of crafting can be incredibly rewarding. Set up a craft station in your home or garden and let your imagination run wild.

A Star Gazing Night!
When night falls, head outside with a blanket and some pillows for a night of star gazing. Use an online star map app to identify constellations, or simply enjoy the beauty of the night sky. It's a peaceful way to end a day of staycation activities.

Are you going away over the summer or staying at home?

  1. I'm staying at home and I've been enjoying reading. I hadn't read for a while and now for several weeks I'm catching up on my reading list. Great post with lots of ideas.

  2. I think I'll do some virtual travel to Paris. There is so much to see, the museums are spread out, and it would help get my bearings. Thanks for the idea!

  3. A virtual travel experience sounds like a wonderful idea! We usually stay home and haven't been away properly for about 15 years. My husbands parents used to pay for all of their kids and families to go to the beach for a week. While it was a lovely generous gesture, I can't say that I could ever fully relax due to various reasons. Over the years we staycation and enjoy a couple of nights away here and there. Except for next year when we are going overseas. Funnily enough we will be leaving our summer and going in January when it's winter in the USA!! Haha!
