This week my Word of the Week is: Pottering! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

I don't know what I've done with this week but it seems to have flown over. It really doesn't seem that long since the weekend. I haven't been up to a great deal but at the same time I've kept myself busy just pottering around getting little jobs done, emptying the washing basket.

On Saturday we went to the local auction and hadn't planned on buying much but came home with my dad's car full. I finally finished and published the blog post about the auction too. Ellie is having great fun with her new trampoline and of course it has been used to help with getting the ball through the new basketball hoop.

On Monday Ellie had her friend over after school. There was a point where there was about 6 kids in the back yard but I told most of them to leave. I don't mind having kids out the back as long as I know them but I don't want strangers mooching about. Becky also brought her girlfriend home for tea after college. I was dreading feeding her as she's a fussy eater and said she didn't like frozen pizza which I had already bought. I cooked it and she ate it with no complaints. Hooray! She did find out eventually it was frozen and she said I'm the best cook. lol

I have had a couple of little stresses this week, the issues stressed me out because I had to phone people and I hate speaking on the phone.

The electric bill was my first stress. I got the quarterly bill on Friday and it was showing that we had used over £400 worth of electric since the end of December which seemed crazy. I rang up and told the woman to look at the bill and she agreed that it wasn't right. It turns out the smart meter is faulty and they are supposed to be sending someone out to fix it today. A new bill has been issued and it is a lot less than it was! Phew! I am glad it was sorted as there was no way I had budgeted for a bill like that.

On Wednesday I got a letter from a hospital in Newcastle where we used to get Ellie's hearing tested before we moved with an appointment for a hearing test. I rang them up to cancel, again and asked why we keep getting the letters despite being referred to our local hospital. It's all automated by computer and she won't be taken off their system until she's had her first appointment at the local hospital. Ugh! I rang our local hospital to check they hadn't forgotten about her and the woman on the phone said they're running behind and are just seeing people who were referred in July. We shouldn't have too long to wait as Ellie was referred in August.

I got on with a little craft project on Wednesday. I got an old picture frame of course from the auction for £1, painted it yellow, put my finished cross stitch pattern in it and put it up in the bathroom. I think it looks fab! I am planning to buy another cross stitch kit and another frame and putting it at the other side of the mirror.

To be honest I have spent most of my week watching Torchwood. I am late to the party but saw the episodes were on Catch Up on Sky. I obviously know what Torchwood is through Doctor Who but I had never seen it and now I'm hooked. I have so much to say about it but won't because I know a lot of other people are watching it for the first time too. The deaths, the glove, the Weevils, Martha Jones, Spike off Buffy, Ruth Jones, the children, Peter Capaldi in it but not as The Doctor! My mind is blown!

  1. It sounds like you've done a fair bit more than pottering about. I remember getting a bill for nearly £2000 once and it turned out my husband had given them the readings the wrong way around. What a shock though, thankfully it was easily sorted. I love your cross stitch pic, it looks great. I hope Ellie's appointment comes through soon, I'm still waiting on one for Star which should have been in January! I'm glad you are enjoying Torchwood, I'm working through it again for the second time but it seems ages and the memory is taking it's time catching up, which is a good thing really. It's a lot grittier than Doctor Who and I think Captain Jack is a much better character. x

    1. Oops! It is a bit of a shock when you get a big bill, especially when they're wrong.
I bet the whole thing with coronavirus isn't helping with getting an appointment.
I've given up with Torchwood. I couldn't get into the 4th series. It felt like the Americans took over.x

  2. I had to look up "pottering". I wasn't sure what that word meant. Thanks for teaching me a new word this week! :) I am not sure about the exchange rate, but I think a pound is about a dollar. A $400 electric bill for 3 months would be cause for celebration here! We have paid bills almost that high for a MONTH!

  3. Pottering is a good word for the week. I'm glad you got the electricity bill sorted and hopefully you'll hear soon about Ellie's hearing check appointment. I love the yellow picture frame and your finished cross-stitch picture looks beautiful. I used to love Torchwood - really must rewatch some of it! :-) #WotW

  4. I absolutely love your cross stitch in its new frame. Unique. I hope it gives you joy every time you look at it. I loved Torchwood, but haven't watched it for years. I'm so glad you sorted out your electricity bill. What a shocker. Seeing your basketball hoop reminds me how much fun they are and maybe I should figure out a place for us to have one. You do find good bargains. Hope you have a good weekend. #wotw

    1. The leccy bill was a bit of a shock but it's all sorted and less than half of what they estimated.
      Thank you x
