This week my Word of the Week is: Grotty! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Grotty

This week hasn't been the greatest and none of us have been feeling the best. At some point this week we have all felt a bit grotty.

On Saturday Ellie and I woke up snotty and sneezing. Thankfully for me it was just hay fever, I know this because once we had gone into town away from all the fields I felt fine. We had a lovely trip into town just having a look around the shops. It was nice to spend some time with Ellie. We had a burger for lunch, a drink from Costa and got Subway for tea. Ellie's snotting and sneezing wasn't getting any better so it looked like she had a cold. Flu tablets and hay fever tablets were bought and by Sunday morning Ellie didn't feel great at all. There was nothing specifically wrong, she just felt under the weather. I was slightly worried about Covid but she had none of the symptoms apart from the runny nose. I said she had until Monday morning to feel better or else I didn't know what we were going to do. Thankfully by Monday morning she was feeling better. No matter what Ellie gets she always seems to get over it quickly. Phew.

Monday was the start of the worst period I have had had in about 25 years. I had the cramps, heavy bleeding and at one point felt like my insides were falling out. I am not one for sleeping during the day but I took myself off to bed with a hot water bottle and slept for 3 hours on Tuesday. Stu said I would struggle to sleep that night, I didn't! I felt like I could sleep for a week. Thankfully I am through the worst and I do hope it is a one off.

Becky spent the weekend at her girlfriends and didn't come back home until Monday afternoon. They had been to the beach on Sunday and had walked for miles so Becky was worn out. She said she wasn't feeling great but after a bath and a night in her own bed she felt much better.

Stu thought he had got away with being the only one feeling fit and well but woke up yesterday morning with a sore shoulder. He must have slept funny. He said he was feeling it all day which was no fun at all.

I am glad we're all feeling better now but not feeling great has meant that we haven't been up to much this week. I have just about kept up with the housework and haven't done half the jobs I wanted to do. My hair still needs dying and the garden desperately needs weeding. Oh well, I'm not stressing. There's always next week for that.

I hope you have all had a good week.

  1. I think sleep is the best medicine for all sorts of ills. Glad you are all feeling better. There is no point getting stressed over jobs not done especially if they are not time constrained, I have realised that most people don't even notice. It is just us as the ones who have to do it that see it more and get stressed.

  2. I haven't heard the word grotty for years! I'm sorry you have all suffered in one way or another. Like you say, there is always time to catch up on the things you haven't done, getting well again is what you need to focus on sometimes. xx

  3. I had to quickly google Grotty as we don't have that word here in the U.S.! Glad you are all feeling better now and I don't want to alarm you but that's how I used to feel with my periods... which I kind of ignored (for more than a year) thinking that was just my new normal as I aged but it turned out I had cysts and fibroids wreaking havoc. All the blood loss leads to an iron deficiency which in turn makes you very tired. Hopefully it was just a one time thing and nothing to worry about.

  4. Next week will be better, promise. There will be time to catch up and I hope everyone feels better soon. A trip to the doc might be in order if your period problems persists. Do take care and have a lovely weekend.

  5. I'm glad you're all feeling better. Horrible to feel grotty. A couple of years ago, we'd not worry about it so much, but now we're just waiting for it to turn into Covid. The jobs will wait, unfortunately. #wotw

  6. Good to hear that you are all feeling better. Nothing worse than feeling under the weather. I remember you saying you were poorly with your period, they are just awful. I've had a rough month with mine although I'm over the worst now thank god. Have a lovely week. xx

  7. So sorry to hear that you were all feeling grotty last week. I'm so glad that you're all feeling better now. Taking it easy is the best thing to do - sometimes the jobs just have to wait. Hope this week is a better one x #WotW

  8. What a week you all did have some grotty moments. My periods haven't been right since having kids. They changed massively. After all this talk about the vaccine and then changing I wonder if I should mention my cycles to someone. I hope this week was a one off for you all #WotW
