This week my Word of the Week is: Painting! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Painting

I feel like I have had a good start to the year. Over Christmas I decided that I was going to decorate the bathroom. It has been a couple of years since it was last done and it was starting to look tatty. The yellow was nice to start with but I am not so keen on it now.

Before and after bathroom

Just before the new years started my painting supplies arrived. I ordered new brushes, some rollers, a big tub of white paint for the walls and grey for the wood on the walls and what I thought a darker grey for the shelves which go right around the bathroom.

On Monday I started painting, I thought I would be finished by Tuesday afternoon but it was not to be. The walls took 3 coats of paint and the wood a couple. When I finally got around to painting the shelf around the bathroom I realised the darker paint wasn't much darker than the paint on the wood on the walls. I was past caring by Wednesday, I just wanted it finished and I think it looks good despite the paint mix up.

On Thursday the fun part came, putting the pictures up and building the new set of drawers. Nearly two hours the drawers took me and that was with using an electric drill/screwdriver. lol It was only when I put the last drawer in I realised that I had the frame the wrong way around, there was no way to put the back on but it doesn't matter, where it is in the bathroom you don't even notice. The drawers have really helped hide a lot of the bottles and tubs which were on the shelves in the bathroom.

By yesterday I had almost lost the plot, the paint fumes got to me. I am totally blaming the fact I had to shut the bathroom door when I was painting it. Becky had been out all day can came in and said I looked stressed and all red in the face, she helped me with the tidying up while I made the finishing touches in the bathroom.

For 4 days I've been covered in paint, I would love to be one of those people who can decorate without making a mess but it's not me. lol I constantly had a rag cleaning up drips and splashes. On Monday Stu came into the bathroom, grimaced and walked back out shaking his head. He hated the mess and chaos that surrounded me but I got there in the end.

Someone said to me on Monday I have so much motivation to be so productive but here we are at the end of the week and all my motivation has gone. lol I am having an easy day today, I have the food shopping being delivered and that is as busy as I am going to get. I am spending the day sat down, watching TV and catching up on everything online that I have missed while I've been painting.

How has your week been?

  1. Well done Kim the bathroom looks fantastic! It's all fresh and lovely. I can imagine how hard it must have been to get it all done especially having to do so many coats. Painting and the prep before hand takes so much longer than you think. I am still trying to get motivated to do the lounge room but I have to move the lounge and the TV and that is really putting me off from doing it. Putting flat packed furniture together is just the worst! I am the handy person at home so that job usually falls on to me. Although now that Sam is older he helps me. I remember putting his complicated Ikea bed together and crying while I was doing it. So frustrating!

  2. It looks great! It's amazing how just a small colour change just brightens it up!

  3. I think your bathroom looks brilliant. Especially after all the time you spent. The yellow was nice, but I bet you will be smiling at the freshness of the new colours, every time you go in there. Enjoy your relaxing end of the week. #wotw

  4. Well done Kim, you deserve a break after that job. Sometimes the smallest rooms can be a lot of work. I haven't built any furniture in a long time but it's a job I always used to enjoy. Graham always makes mistakes though, so you doing the drawers with the frame the wrong way around sounds like something he would have done haha. xx

  6. Well done it looks great. All we have been doing is building ikea furniture for weeks. And its not over yet! We will join your painting soon I'm sure. This whole house is white and we need some colour! It sounds like you needed a good TV day. That's what I did over Christmas #WotW

  9. The painting in the bathroom looks good. Love the choice of colours. Well done – it sounds like it was a lot of hard work and a bit stressful too but so nice to have it done and it looks great. Hope you managed to relax over the weekend to recover from it all! #WotW
