I am sure you all know that my family and I are big fans of anything Harry Potter so when I was given the chance to review the word game Harry Potter Lex-Go I jumped at the chance.
The Classic Word Game Lex-GO! meets the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Lex-GO! is one 'L' of a super-fast word game. Race against other players to get rid of all your playing card tiles by creating words, swapping letters and even attacking other players' words.
To play you shuffle all the letter tiles face down then each player takes 10 tiles but keeps them face down.
One player shouts 'Lex-Go!' and everyone flips over their tiles. It is a race to create words and get rid of all your letter tiles. When you make a word you put it in the middle of the table, the play area.
You can attack another player's word by adding or replacing a letter tile or letter tiles and you can swap a tile replacing one of your letter tiles for one in the draw pile. You must shout 'Swap' as you do this.
When you have got rid of all your letter tiles you shout 'Lexicon'. If all the tiles you placed spell real words you win that round. Shuffle the tiles and play again. The first player to win five rounds is the winner!
The Rules!
No plurals, No proper nouns, unless they are Harry Potter nouns, No one-letter words, No acronyms or abbreviations, unless they are Harry Potter related.
In this special Harry Potter Edition of Lex-Go!, there are special spell tiles to increase your chances of winning:
EXPELLIARMUS tile allows a player to mess up another player’s tiles.
DEPULSO tile allows a player to banish one of their tiles from the round if they need to.
REVELIO tile allows a player to look at any number of tiles in the draw pile before choosing which to swap.
STUPEFY tile allows a player to freeze another player out the game for 10 seconds.
POLYJUICE POTION tile can be any letter.
If you can spell 'SNITCH' to instantly win the round.
We love this game. It is one we can all play as a family and we have had more than a few games. As well as it being fun it's educational too without my girls realising.
It took a couple of rounds to get the hang of the game but once we all did there was no stopping us. Rounds can last anywhere between a few seconds to a few minutes. Each round goes by so quickly that you’ll just want to keep playing more and more.
The spells add some fun and chaos to the game and only a couple of arguments. hehehe My family get so competitive with each other. Eesh!
You don't have to be a Harry Potter fan to play this game but it does help especially when it comes to using Harry Potter themed words. For example when playing a game with my dad he would say "muggle" isn't a real word but in the Harry Potter world it is. hehehe
Harry Potter Lex-Go! is available from Waterstones, Amazon and The Works for around £14.99 and is suitable for ages 8 and upwards.
We were sent Harry Potter Lex-Go free of charge in exchange for this blog post.
