Our weekly meal plan! 4th - 10th October. #MealPlanningMonday

Our weekly meal plan

Last weeks meal plan went pretty well. We did get a takeaway on Saturday night which wasn't in our budget but it's only a few days until pay day. My excuse was that it was a treat to celebrate Becky starting work. I am so proud of her. She did a 12 hour shift on her first day and loved every minute. (She's working in a care home.) She said it feels wrong to be paid for something which feels like fun. I don't know how she'll feel in a few weeks especially after the night shifts this week.

I got the shopping delivered from Sainsbury's on Friday and the substitutions were interesting. They sent peppers instead of onions, chocolate popcorn bars instead of salted caramel bars and salted caramel bars instead of brownie bars It made no sense. How can they substitute something and then sent the sub as a replacement for something else? lol There was also the washing liquid instead of fabric conditioner. All was forgiven though when my 2 bottles of wine were refunded, something in someone else's shopping had burst and spilled on mine. hehehe

We don't have much planned this week. With Becky working I am having more time home alone and I am finding it quite lonely. I can pop out to my dad's or have a coffee with a friend but some days I do just want to stay at home. I used to manage OK when both the kids were at school, being home alone but after the lockdowns I am finding it hard to get used to again. I have decided that I need to fill my time and I am going to by doing some cross stitch, sanding down the dressing table I got and sorting out the garden if the weather is nice.

On the menu this week we have:

Monday - Spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread.
Tuesday - Bologese sausage rolls using the leftover bolognese with potato wedges.
Wednesday - Chicken kiev's with new potatoes.
Thursday - Corned Beef Crispbakes with mashed potato and baked beans.
Friday - Pizza.
Saturday - A fry up. Sausages, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, black pudding, baked beans and toast.
Sunday - A roast dinner of some sort.

What are you eating this week?

  1. This looks like a delicious meal plan!

We meal plan more roughly in my house, picking 3-4 dinners and making them as we feel like it throughout the week lol.

  2. Great post. I need to start meal planning properly again. It takes me a while to get into the new term and discover our rhythm of what nights we need quick meals or need to eat seperately etc. Well done to Becky. I used to work in a care home weekends and during the holidays. I loved it too. I found it fascinating chatting to the residents. Of course there are very hard aspects too but it's rewarding. Hope she continues to enjoy it and knows how appreciated she is for doing this job xxx

  3. Sainsburys do make some weird substitutions, I kept ordering a particular shampoo and they kept sending me conditioner, I now have three bottles of conditioner and no shampoo! This week I ordered a pack of 4 chocolate eclairs and they substituted it with a pack of 2...why didn't they send me two packs of 2? Anyway, I hope Becky continues to enjoy her job and that you enjoy your meals this week...but it's a big no to the Bolognese sausage rolls for me xx

  4. I’ve had that when the item I’ve ordered is subbed and then sent as a replacement for something else. Bizarre isn’t it? That sounds like a yummy menu for the week. I love the sound of bolognase sausage rolls. Will have to try making those some time. Love a good fry up with black pudding too! #MMBC

  5. Tonight we're trying a new recipe in the crock pot-- pork chops and marinara sauce that I'll serve with pasta. I have plans to roast up a turkey breast one day this week after it thaws and I'll make up a few casseroles for the nights we have haircuts.

  6. There is no such thing as leftovers in my house lol but I totally love the sound of the Bolognese sausage rolls! Might try it and see what the kids say about it :) I hate when I get subs in my shopping - I am the only vegan and its amazing some of the subs I used to get until unticked the subs allowed lol x

  7. We are in lockdown and have been getting restaurant meal boxes - did a brilliant one on Sunday which was from a charity that also uses some of the money made to feed the homeless. It was so great I ordered a different one but that doesn't arrive until next Monday. So this week is all dull at homemade meals. I'm soooooo over everything I know how to make. #Blogtober21

  11. Can't beat a nice takeaway can you?! As long as you can afford it why not! That's odd subs wise isn't it, maybe they picked the brownie sub then realised that was the last salted caramel?

I had two substitutions then two notes saying I'd opted not to have substitutions and yet I ordered it all in one go?! Very strange!
