This week my Word of the Week is: Rain! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Rain

This week has been a complete wash out. I don't remember it ever being this wet at the start of the summer holidays. It is feeling more like Autumn than summer. Ugh.

I did Google when the wettest July was and it wasn't the one just gone, it was in 1988. Apparently the 2nd most wettest July was in 2009, I remember that year being grey and dismal but I always think of it like that because it was the year my girls had their open heart surgery to fix the holes in their hearts and I wasn't in the happiest of moods. The nurses kept saying at least it's wet and grey out so you're not missing any of the summer.

The girls went to Hull Pride on Saturday and the weather wasn't too bad, there were a few showers but nothing too bad. They had a great time. On Sunday I left them in bed as Becky had only had a few hours sleep after her night shift on the Saturday before going out so had the sleep to catch up on and Ellie is a typical teenager and just loves her sleep. Stu and I went out for lunch and we left the house and it was starting to rain, it was just a shower and by the time we'd got to our favourite place for Sunday lunch the sun had came out. We felt silly wearing jumpers and hoodies. lol We went to see my dad and by then it was chucking it down.

From then on it has rained a lot. I have had to go out twice in it and got soaked, it was a good excuse to put my pj's on early though. We had planned to see the Barbie movie early on in the week but didn't fancy walking 25 minutes to the nearest bus stop as the roads have been closed locally as they have been resurfacing the roads.

Becky was glad that it rained all day on Wednesday as she was stuck at work doing training. She had her normal 12 hour shift starting at 8pm Tuesday night, finished 8am Wednesday morning and had an hours break before 7 hours of mandatory training. She got home just after 4pm and went for a 4 hour nap, got back up had something to eat and a bath. She really was a trooper. I think if I had gone for the nap I would have stayed in bed until the next morning.

I was glad it rained on Wednesday too so I could plonk my backside in front of the TV and watch Guardians of the Galaxy 3 which came onto Disney+ and not feel guilty about not doing anything productive. It was so good but still would have liked to have seen it at the cinema.

Thursday was the first dry day of the week and we were glad as we had a day out shopping in town and we went to see the Barbie movie. It was so good! Just the right amount of everything. I have never seen our cinema as busy! There were actual queues to get in which I have never seen before.

It's supposed to be raining on and off all of today so we're going to see what it's like before we make any plans. I am so sick of this weather! I don't want a hot summer, I would just like a dryer one!

How has your week been? I hope you've had a good one!

  1. It definitely feels more like autumn. We've only had an hour or so today where it hasn't rained! I soon got the washing out hehe. It's so muggy today though, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a storm tonight.
Becky did really well to have done her normal shift and then training on top bless her. That's pretty tough!
I'm feeling a pj day coming up, I feel like I really need one. xx

  2. I think we got your summer weather over here! Even though the mornings and evenings are cold. The days have been really warm and yesterday the temps got as high as 24°C. The kids were running around in the playground at preschool with red cheeks and we had to keep reminding them to drink water. The weather has gone crazy everywhere! I hope the rain stops soon over there. It gets depressing when it’s grey and rainy. Glad you liked the Barbie movie!

  3. It's so strange because last year we went on holiday the same week last year and it was a heatwave. We had a proper storm on Tuesday night, but other than that it wasn't really all that bad. I'm glad you got to see the Barbie movie, Boo went to see it with her friends and loved it. She's never been a Barbie fan but Star used to watch all the animated movies over and over when she was little. I'm glad we didn't stay away any longer, this weekend is abysmal. xx

  4. It has been raining a lot this summer hasn't it? I remember July 2009 being wet - I got married that month although thankfully the rain held off for the outside photos. I'm with you on not wanting it to be hotter, just drier! Well done to Becky for managing to do her training after her night shift. Glad you had a dry day for your day out shopping in town. #WotW
