This week my Word of the Week is: Wrestling! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

For the last few weeks I have really struggled to pick a word to describe my week but this week it was easy. There is only one word that has dominated my week: Wrestling!

On Friday evening I got to the point where there was nothing on TV to watch, I'd caught up on everything I'd recorded, there wasn't any films I wanted to see or new TV series so I was looking for something to watch when a bright idea came to me.

I had heard about The WWE Network when it was first launched but never thought of getting it until now. It is a streaming service, I think it's a lot like Netflix but all it shows is wrestling. Documentaries, their weekly shows, pay per views and they go right back to the 80's.

Yes I know, there will be people that say wrestling is fake. It is scripted but nothing about getting hit on the head with a chair, falling off a ladder or falling of a metal structure about 20ft high onto a wooden table is not fake.

I have spent most of the week watching documentaries and they have fascinated me. Even Becky is getting into it. I was watching one about the early 90's and Becky was horrified that they could get away with the things they did. They were so sexist, all the blood and over the top violence.

I think the highlight of my week was watching Undertaker: The Last Ride documentary. The Undertaker is a character and has been wrestling for the same company for 30 odd years. I think he is the best character but I never knew much about him as a person as he stuck to his character of an undertaker so much. It was a great insight into his life, the pain he goes through every day, the surgery he had, his last 3 or so years of wrestling and his last ever match. I cried at the end of the series mostly because he did but partly because it's the end of an era. I can't see any current wrestlers dedicating their lives to wresting like he did. They all go off to take part in movies now.

At the moment I am more than happy to pay the £9.99 a month. I haven't even scratched the surface of what there is to watch.

Not much else has happened this past week. Just the usual school work for Ellie, work for Stu and watching TikTok for Becky. lol Ellie did have her first afternoon out with her best friend and went to her's for tea. It was just what she needed. I think she was becoming lonely with just us for company. My dad and his partner have visited and have finally seen all the DIY and decorating we've been doing during lockdown and that's about it for our week.

  1. I've never really been a big wrestling fan, but I remember my son's friends, who were also my friends kids, were really into it. And as I looked after them two days a week while she worked we all got to watch some. I certainly remember The Undertaker. Glad Ellie got to go out. I can't wait to see Boo's face when her friend turns up for her birthday but we've a couple of weeks to wait yet. x

  5. I've not watched wrestling. We did see the film "Fighting with my Family" a few months ago and really enjoyed it, so I do see the fascination. Hope you continue to enjoy it. #wotw

  6. I've never really watched much wrestling although I have heard of The Undertaker (but only because he, and some other wrestlers, provided the voices for some surfing penguins in the film Surfs Up 2 and the girls and I were invited to the DVD launch event. That's about the limit of my wrestling knowledge! I'm glad you've been enjoying watching the documentaries on the WWE streaming service though. #WotW

  7. I love finding a new thing to watch, documentaries in particular, so it's amazing that you have an entire new collection of shows to get through! Wrestling isn't something I've ever been into but I can imagine most people assume it's just a bunch of guys throwing themselves around a ring. I'm pleased to hear that the channel covers so much more :) #WotW
