The lovely Joanne over at My Slices of Life has been doing a series of blog posts all about her favourite movies of different genres and I am so pinching her idea.
I wouldn't say I am a big movie buff but I do have a lot of favourite films and in this post I am sharing my top 5 action movies. I always say I don't like action movies when Stu suggests watching them but I have a select few which I can watch again and again!
Terminator 2: Judgment Day!
In this sequel set eleven years after "The Terminator," young John Connor, the key to civilization's victory over a future robot uprising, is the target of the shape-shifting T-1000, a Terminator sent from the future to kill him. Another Terminator, the revamped T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger), has been sent back to protect the boy. As John and his mother go on the run with the T-800, the boy forms an unexpected bond with the robot.
When I was in secondary school at the end of the school year we could bring video tapes (remember them) into school and we would watch them. We had 55 minutes to watch it and had planned to use the next couple of lessons to watch the rest but other teachers had different ideas and we were not allowed to watch it! I didn't see the 2nd half of the film until a couple of years later. The wait was worth it! I do love Terminator 2, in fact I love all of the Terminator films apart from the first one.
Con Air!
Just-paroled army ranger Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage) is headed back to his wife, but must fly home aboard a prison transport flight dubbed "Jailbird" with some of the worst criminals living. Along with the genius serial killer Cyrus "The Virus" Grissom (John Malkovich) unleashes a violent escape plot in mid-flight. Secretly working with U.S. Marshall Vince Larkin (John Cusack), Poe tries to foil Grissom's plan.
It was just one of those movies which was just great back in the day. It's full of action from start to finish and has quite a lot of funny moments. Put. The. Bunny. Back. In. The. Box and Define irony: a bunch of idiots dancing around on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash!
Demolition Man
With innocent victims caught in the crossfire in Los Angeles' intensifying war on crime, both cop John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) and violent thug Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) are sentenced to a state of frozen incarceration known as "CryoPrison." When Spartan is finally thawed 36 years later, it's 2032, and Los Angeles is now a pacifist utopia called San Angeles. But with Phoenix again on the loose, Spartan must team up with future cop Lenina (Sandra Bullock) to apprehend the killer.
This is another film that I have watched again and again and know lots of it line for line! Send a maniac to catch one! Wesley Snipes is such a funny bad guy!
Speed!
Los Angeles police officer Jack (Keanu Reeves) angers retired bomb squad member Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper) by foiling his attempt at taking hostages. In revenge, Payne arms a bus with a bomb that will explode if it drops below 50 miles per hour. With the help of spunky passenger Annie (Sandra Bullock), Jack and his partner Harrytry to save the people on the bus before the bomb goes off, while also trying to figure out how Payne is monitoring them.
I remember the first time that I saw this! I was on the edge of my seat! It was such a clever film at the time! Don't waste your time watching Speed 2. That was such a letdown!
Bad Boys!
Miami-Dade detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) blow a fuse when $100 million worth of heroin they recently confiscated is heisted from station headquarters. Suspecting it was an inside job, Internal Affairs gives them five days to track down the drugs before they shut down the narcotics division. Action meets farce when Marcus is compelled to masquerade as his partner in order to gain the trust of a call girl, a key witness in their investigation.
I am a huge fan of Will Smith, well apart from her dramatics at the Oscars. I love the whole series of the Bad Boys films. I am starting to think I could have done a whole blog post about cop films that I love. hehehe
What action movies are your favourites?
I love all these movies. What a great idea sharing your favourites. I noticed you don't have any modern ones though? I've just looked through some of the latest releases and come to two conclusions. They don't make action movies like they used to...or they make remakes of old action movies or sequels...many many sequels! xx
ReplyDeleteAction movies are my favourite and I will always pick them to watch over dramas, comedies and rom-coms. I haven't seen Bad Boys yet so I should put it on my list. I love all the Bourne movies and any movie with Jason Statham. I could go on and on about all my favourite action movies!
ReplyDeleteThose are some great movies. I enjoyed watching speed!
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I enjoy all of these except for any of the Terminator movies (I haven't seen any of them). I do know quite a few lines from Speed, Bad Boys, and Demolition Man though.
ReplyDeleteOh I love all of these! I have quite a few favourite action movies, but anything with Jason Statham in is most probably my favourite! Hehe xx
